Received a tribute from Dartmouth University on January 11, 1985 for his contributions to the movie industry, cinema history, and film preservation.
Turell was founder of the prestigious Sterling Films (later Walter-Reade-Sterling) and became President of Janus Films in 1965. Turell was a pioneer in helping to distribute classic American and foreign films and helped revive interest in silent film classics with his vast collection through the landmark 1960 TV series, "Silents, Please.".
Father of Jonathan Turell.
