2010 in Reviews: 60 movies we watched and rated this year!

31 December 2010 8:04 AM, PST | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

[Editor's note: If anyone says 2010 was a sh!% year for movies, please refer them to this post.]

Instead of the usual "best" or "worst" films of the year lists, I thought a good way to take a look at the highs and lows of the 2010 film year would be to compile almost every single review we published in 2010 and let readers meander through the wasteland as it were.

I'm really amazed at the range of films we managed to cover from around the globe this year. Quiet Earth has certainly come a long way over the years and it's really due to the talents and passion of our team of writers who literally travel a world of fests to bring news and reviews of new films.

I hope you're all taking notes. Many of these films were from fests and will probably be hitting VOD and Blu-ray sometime in the new year, so this is a good chance to get a start on your must-watch lists.

More Avengers Rumors: Some Debunked While Others Begin, Plus How Robert Downey Jr. Convinced Mark Ruffalo to Take Hulk Role

30 December 2010 10:52 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

There is plenty of rumor mongering occurring on behalf of Marvel Studios' upcoming adaptation of Avengers this week, and it hasn't been easy to tell fact from fiction, but we'll try our best.

One of the easiest to sniff out as false was the supposed casting of troubled Disney star Demi Lovato, who was reportedly "up for a role" in the comic book movie. THR reports that sources inside Marvel and Lovato's "camp" claim "there was no truth to the rumor."

The report also suggests another rumor that Marvel is looking to bring another female character into the movie, considering Scarlett Johansson is the only female member on the superhero team at this time. Director Joss Whedon revealed in August that the movie "is only going to have one female avenger," but, if the report is to be believed, that could have changed.

"The Avengers" Rumors Shot Down

30 December 2010 6:39 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

It has been confirmed that neither Alan Tudyk or Demi Lovato are joining the cast of "The Avengers" for Marvel Studios.

Online reports emerged earlier this week claiming that Tudyk had been cast as scientist Hank Pym (a.k.a. Ant-Man) while Lovato was being pursued for the secondary female lead role (after Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow) which was speculated to be Pym's wife Janet Van Dyne (a.k.a. The Wasp).

Edgar Wright, who remains attached to direct the "Ant-Man" film adaptation, tells Moviefone "That's news to me" upon talk of Tudyk's involvement. Reps for both Marvel Studios and Lovato have also denied the involvement of the actress to Heat Vision.

The speculation also hinted that Hank and Janet will be seen creating Ultron, the expected villain in their forth-coming solo adventure, in the post-credits sequence of "The Avengers". Said idea now looks to be utter tosh. »

‘The Avengers’ Adds Another Heroine to the Mix

29 December 2010 2:17 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

While Joss Whedon’s The Avengers is already packed with star-power, boasting Chris Evans (Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), and Chris Hemsworth (Thor), rumor has is Marvel is on the prowl to add one more star to this superhero team.

THR reveals Marvel is looking to play down the sausage fest vibe by adding another lady to the lineup. But which comic book heroine will be hitting the big screen? The popular theory is The Wasp, a founding member and sometimes leader of the Avengers, who can fly, shrink, and fire energy blasts. The only word on casting at this point is she will not be played by troubled teen star Demi Lovato or previously rumored vixen Eva Longoria.

Playlist posits that the addition of The Wasp could lead to fellow Avenger founder, »

Edgar Wright Shuts Down Alan Tudyk Ant-Man Rumors

29 December 2010 12:54 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

If you haven't already noticed, the news cycle is pretty damn slow at this time of year. Between Christmas and New Years, everybody in Hollywood is taking a minute to relax, put their feet up, and prepare for 2011. But because something needs to fill the void, we've spent the better part of this week reporting rumors and then debunking them, and most have had to do with Marvel Studio's future projects. We've already covered the Skrulls vs. Kree and Demi Lovato stories, and now we have another one to shut down. Last night I reported a rumor that Alan Tudyk was not only officially signed on to play Ant-Man in the Edgar Wright-written solo superhero movie, but that he would also have a role in The Avengers. When writing it up, I pointed out the numerous inconsistencies in the story, but now it's officially been shut down. Moviefone contacted »

Edgar Wright Debunks Casting Rumor of Alan Tudyk as Ant-man

29 December 2010 | The Daily BLAM! | See recent The Daily BLAM! news »

The director for the upcoming Marvel property Ant-Man has addressed the rumor of Alan Tudyk has already been cast in The Avengers and his film as the title character. The initial rumor claiming Dodgeball actor Tudyk had landed the role of Dr. Hank Pym originated from Mr. Orange, reporting via ComicBookMovie.com. The source claimed to be close to the production of director Joss Whedon's Avengers confirming that Tudyk was cast as Pym and that his transformation into Ant-Man would occur during a credits sequence along with Janet Van Dyne (aka Wasp) - as well as the creation of the robotic villain Ultron, who would be the primary antagonist in Wright's Ant-Man spin-off film. Alan Tudyk is Ant-Man? Edgar Wright Says: "News to Me"

27 December 2010 4:10 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Filed under: Movie News, Hot Topic, Cinematical

Now that the holidays are finally over, we can all move on to more important things - like breathlessly reporting every casting rumor that comes down the pike for all of the upcoming superhero movies! The latest rumor involves Marvel's adaptation of 'Ant-Man,' a character even hardcore comic geeks don't seem to be that interested in seeing on the big screen. Undaunted, the big M is moving ahead with plans to bring the character to the masses, probably hoping for an 'Iron Man'-esque crossover hit.

For some time now, the actor garnering the most buzz to play scientist Hank Pym was 'Firefly' star Nathan Fillion. Fillion has become like a more mainstream Bruce Campbell - an actor beloved by the rabid cult of fans who follow his every move, but mostly invisible to the film industry at large. »

So, when is a teaser trailer not a teaser trailer? When it's an Announcement Trailer. That's right fools, Michael Bay plays by his rules and he's not gonna call the first trailer for "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" something sissy like a "teaser trailer." Transformers 3 Trailer Description

3 December 2010 11:55 AM, PST | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Badtaste.it has the following description up for the Transformers: Dark of the Moon teaser trailer.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon, from the teaser, plays on conspiracy theories related to the moon landing. The first part of the movie alternates images of the control room at Nasa and of the astronauts on the moon. The landing is what we know well, including the famous words about the “giant leap for mankind.” But what we did not know was the journey of the astronauts to the dark side of the moon, until the control room tells them that “… we are not alone.” Then we see some Transformers. The camera comes close to the eye of one of them, which starts to flash. But the camera does not stop, and takes us inside the robot and its mechanisms, making us understand that it’s coming back into action.
