“It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire.” If that extract rings a bell, it should – it’s pulled from the opening crawl seen in A New Hope, one which features the narrative crux to Gareth Edwards’ imminent anthology movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
For during that historic mission, Rebel operatives managed to obtain schematics for the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon capable of wiping out entire planets in the blink of an eye. At the forefront of said rebellion is Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, a drifter who falls in line with the Alliance upon learning that her father, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), became involved in the Death Star’s construction.
And so, as Rogue One draws near, Entertainment Weekly has premiered an all-new image of Jones and Co. »

Looking ahead to the movies heading to cinemas in time for Christmas...
The festive season is a great time to go to the pictures. There’s nothing quite like taking solace when it’s cold outside by cramming in with some like-minded folk to see a (hopefully) great movie.
Unsurprisingly, Hollywood studios have cottoned on to this. Year on year, there seems to more and more choice at the cinema come Christmas time. It’s almost like a second summer season, in terms of the sheer volume of major movies on offer. This isn’t likely to change any time soon, especially when you look at the cash banked by Star Wars: The Force Awakens last Christmas. And that's not to mention the festive season's nearness to the Oscar race, which means that the major movies keep coming well into January.
There are many movies rocking around the multiplex during this Yuletide, »
The Dark Lord of the Sith returns to the big screen this December, with Darth Vader set to make his presence felt in Disney and Lucasfilm’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and director Gareth Edwards has been chatting to USA Today about the excitement everyone felt when shooting scenes with the iconic villain.
“It’s like we’re at the playground again and there’s this hero sort of standing there,” said Edwards. “You end up very respectful of him: Even though you know there’s a guy inside the outfit, you still talk to him like he’s Vader.”
The director went on to reveal that Ben Mendelsohn called him over after shooting one sequence between Vader and his character Orson Krennic: “He went, ‘It’s Darth Vader. We filmed with Darth Vader’. And I was like,‘I know. It’s amazing, isn’t it?’ It was »

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are producing, with John Knoll and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. The movie opens in U.S. theaters on December 16, 2016. »
What’s a Disney movie without a good ol’ sing-a-long? Earlier in the year, the House of Mouse had moviegoers enthralled by the bear necessities and Jon Favreau’s redo of The Jungle Book, but a new adventure is looming over the horizon, and it involves a trip to the wondrous paradise of Oceania.
We are, of course, referring to Moana, the all-new animation hailing from The Little Mermaid dream team, Ron Clements and John Musker. Anchoring the coming-of-age tale is the dynamic between Moana (newcomer Auli’i Cravalho) and Maui, a boisterous, larger-than-life demigod brought to life by Dwayne Johnson. He’s the arrogant companion to Cravalho’s wide-eyed explorer. How do we know? Well, because he’s even got his own self-aggrandizing song to prove it, aptly titled “You’re Welcome.” Penned by musical maestro Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), you’ll be able to hear Johnson belt out the »

Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast South Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one today knows why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.
Moana is set for release on November 23rd in the States »

Dwayne Johnson decided to start this week on a musical note, by debuting a new clip from his upcoming animated movie Moana through social media. This latest sneak peek features the debut of Maui's song, "You're Welcome," written by Tony Award Winner & Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. To celebrate, Dwayne Johnson will be revealing exclusive behind-the-scenes moments from his recording session with Miranda as part of his first ever Instagram Story. We'll bring you these behind-the-scenes videos as soon as they surface this morning.
This scene comes exactly one week after Dwayne Johnson unveiled the first clip, which showed Maui meeting the young title character, voiced by newcomer Auli'i Cravalho, for the first time. This second scene seems to take place shortly after that first meeting, with Maui using this song to explain all of the things he has done for her. Maui also uses his animated tattoos to help showcase his past deeds. »

With less than two months left until the first Star Wars spin-off, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, hits theaters, anticipation is higher than ever. With the final trailer arriving last week, it remains to be seen how much more footage will be unveiled, but today we have some new details about this project. While it hasn't been confirmed by Disney or LucasFilm yet, the Rogue One runtime has been revealed.
Making Star Wars came across listing for Australia's Event Cinemas, which lists the Rogue One runtime at 133 minutes (two hours and 13 minutes). If this is accurate, the runtime is five minutes shorter than last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its 138-minute runtime. It is also the exact same runtime as the first prequel, The Phantom Menace. Some fans are claiming this is too short for what needs to be accomplished in this movie, while others are calling »
After Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit theaters in December, details started to surface about a number of famous actors who were hiding in plain sight in unique cameo appearances, such as Simon Pegg as the junk dealer Unkar Plutt and Daniel Craig as a Stormtrooper. With the release of the first Star Wars spin-off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story just a few months away, it seems fans will be deprived of a unique cameo in this movie, according to Alan Tudyk. While the actor still does star as the new droid K-2So, he almost had another cameo that a certain group of fans would have surely loved.
Yesterday, the actor was joined by his Con Man web series stars Nathan Fillion, Pj Haarsma, Felicia Day and Nolan North for a Reddit Ama session, where one fan asked the group if they have a favorite cameo appearance in their career. »
It’s no secret Alan Tudyk has a role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. As we’ve discussed extensively, he plays mo-cap character K-2So, an Imperial droid reprogrammed by Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) to work for the Rebel Alliance. But it turns out he almost had a second, live-action role in the movie as well. Unfortunately, the […]
