Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart in The Twilight Saga: New Moon (Kimberley French / Summit Entertainment) (top); Megan Fox in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Jaimie Trueblood / Dreamworks / Paramount) We all know what movie critics’ like, since they’ve been getting together to announce the year’s best since early December. But what about movie fans? Or at least those movie 200,000+ fans who’ve bothered to vote in a poll at Moviefone.com? Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon was chosen — oops! Wrong poll. Let me try again: At Moviefone.com, Chris Weitz’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon was named best movie (global box office: $662 million) with more than 40 percent of the vote. The film’s male star, Robert Pattinson, was chosen the sexiest [...] »

Exclusive: 'Greek' taps Lea Thompson as Cappie's mom

24 November 2009 4:12 PM, PST | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Now that Casey has finally hooked her wagon to Cappie on Greek, it's time for her to — you guessed it — meet the parents! Caroline in the City herself, Lea Thompson, has been cast as Cappie's free-spirited mother, April, while Jim Abele (24) will play his non-conformist father, Tobias. "Meeting his parents will have a big impact on Casey," says a Greek insider, adding that the modern-day hippies will appear during the second half of the show's upcoming 10-episode cycle (debuting Jan. 25). Do you pledge to support Greek's decision to hire Thompson and Abele as Cappie's parents? Rush to the comments section with your answer! »

The good news for fans of robots in disguise is that there will be a "Transformers 3." The better news is that director Michael Bay has retracted earlier statements he made about wanting to take a year off, and is intent on finishing the film in time for a 2011 release. The best news, however, is that the film begins shooting ... now?

"Today is Day One," the awesome filmmaker announced on a blog posted on his official Web site. "This morning started with an Ilm meeting for five hours in San Francisco. Currently I'm flying with writer Ehren Kruger to Rhode Island to talk to Hasbro about new characters."

The news comes as a surprise after Bay and his studio clashed last »

Blu-Ray Review: Great Release For Disappointing ‘Fast & Furious’

9 August 2009 4:20 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – The Blu-Ray release of Universal’s “Fast & Furious,” also now available on DVD, is a tough one for a critic who hated the film when he had to review it in theaters. “Fast & Furious” is not a good movie, even when judged against the relatively low standards of this lackluster franchise. But the Blu-Ray? It’s pretty great.

Blu-Ray Rating: 3.0/5.0 I have to give credit where credit is due and admit that there are a lot of fans of “Fast & Furious” out there. (Trust me. I heard from a lot of them after my theatrical review.) And it’s always great to see fans treated well by a studio and the Blu-Ray release of “Fast & Furious” really delivers for fans of Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster.

We’ll get to the detailing on this tricked-out Blu-Ray, but the fact is that most people pick up »

‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ is Galaxies Away From its Predecessor

24 June 2009 2:07 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – There are often many reasons sequels should not be made. “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” is one of them. Seeking that “Allspark” exhilaration pumped into many of us from the original “Transformers,” moviegoers will flock to the sequel with anticipation.

Rating: 1.5/5.0 The first 20 minutes or so (skipping the ridiculous introduction) will feel like preparation for lift-off. Sam (Shia Labeouf) and Bumblebee (voice by Mark Ryan) reappear in two familiar scenes, Mr. and Mrs. Witwicky (Kevin Dunn and Julie White) return with their well-executed bicker-banter and Mikaela (Megan Fox) remains with all the assets she brings to the screen.

Read Elizabeth Oppriecht’s full review of “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” in our reviews section. We’re introduced to our first three Decepticons and they’re all impressive. From a ferocious tiger-looking beast to a beautiful and all-too-eager temptress (Isabel Lucas), the Decepticons are assembling a vicious team.

Then, before »

TV Review: Tonight's 'True Blood', Episode 2.01 'Nothing but the Blood'

14 June 2009 4:45 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Photo: HBO Last year I reviewed the first five episodes of HBO's vampire drama "True Blood" and due to an unfortunate miscommunication I didn't receive screeners of the final seven episodes, which meant the reviewing stopped there. However, I was recently sent the final seven episodes of season one along with the first four episodes of season two and a promise to make sure I am able to bring you reviews of each episode all season long, which has me extraordinarily excited. I am the first to admit I didn't instantly take to the "True Blood" series. Of the first five episodes I reviewed I wasn't altogether impressed, but I had a feeling there was a lot of potential, and boy was I right. The final seven episodes of the first season got better and better, and the first four of season two had me glued to the screen. I »

New To 'True Blood'? Here's What You Need to Know

14 June 2009 4:45 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Photo: HBO The second season of HBO's vampire drama "True Blood" begins tonight, Sunday, June 14 and if you haven't taken the time to get acquainted with the show to this point, but are interested in jumping in and not missing a moment of season two I felt it would be best to give you a quick initiation. I will be reviewing each season two episode every Sunday morning, so get the recap below, watch the episode each week and stay up-to-date as we move along. "True Blood" is based on a world created by novelist Charlaine Harris and takes place in a real world setting in which vampires, shape shifters, werewolves and other unknown mythical entities are commonplace. Vampires 'came out of the coffin' two years prior and are attempting to integrate into society, but the divide between humans and vampires harkens back to the days of serious racial division. »

‘Fast & Furious’ With Vin Diesel, Paul Walker is Loud, Boring, Useless Drivel

3 April 2009 10:01 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Rating: 1.0/5.0 Chicago – It took eight years to reunite the cast of the original “The Fast and the Furious” - Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, and Michelle Rodriguez. What’s changed in that time? The franchise lost two articles and gained an ampersand. Maybe the next film will simply be called “F F”. I can think of one word that start with ‘F’ that certainly apply to the latest film - failure.

With dialogue that wouldn’t pass an eighth-grade English class, two lethargic lead performances by a pair of actors who might as well be wearing signs that say “for the paycheck,” and only two real racing sequences, “Fast & Furious” is likely to let down even the most forgiving and hardcore fans of one of the more successful franchises of the ’00s.

Ten Sneak Peek Photos of 'True Blood' Season 2

(from left to right): Kristin Bauer, Alexander Skarsgard and Patrick Gallagher

Photo: HBO/ Jaimie Trueblood I covered HBO's "True Blood" as long as they were sending me review copies, and as it turned out they only sent me the first five episodes and then left me high and dry. I guess I could give it a second look when it hits DVD and Blu-ray on May 19 and catch up on the eight episodes I missed prior to the upcoming Season 2 premiere on June 14th, but we'll have to wait an see on that since HBO also never sends me review copies of their TV DVDs and I have so many as is I really only end up buying stuff I already know I want. I am not a huge blind buy consumer. Nevertheless, "True Blood" is returning to HBO on June 14 and they have sent over ten preview images »
