Jane Pauley Will Succeed Charles Osgood as ‘CBS Sunday Morning’ Anchor

25 September 2016 7:26 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Nearly 30 years after she left NBC’s “Today,” Jane Pauley will return to a morning news anchor slot as the successor to Charles Osgood on “CBS Sunday Morning.”

Pauley has been a contributor to the show since 2014. “CBS Sunday Morning” typically airs long-form feature reporting in a signature style, a mix of lifestyle and personality features as well as in-depth takes on cultural trends and innovations in medicine, business and science. The show was created for CBS News by Robert Northshield and host Charles Kuralt in 1979. Charles Osgood, who has anchored the program since 1994, said on the Aug. 28 broadcast that he intended to step down as anchor after 22 years.

Pauley is set to formally take over anchor duties on the Oct. 9 broadcast. She will be only the third anchor of the show to date.

Pauley has been cited in CBS News circles as a potential replacement for Osgood, 83, since word surfaced in January that he and CBS »

Klovn Forever review – one in the eye for decency from Denmark's gross-out duo

30 August 2016 3:58 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Racism, sexism, inappropriate coupling: Frank Hvam and Casper Christensen cheerily mine every taboo for a laugh in this sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit

When the film Klovn (Klown) shot to notoriety on the festival circuit in 2012, it did so with the benefit of surprise. Only those familiar with its six seasons on Danish TV could have seen it coming. But when, in the first few moments, meek schlemiel Frank (Frank Hvam) ejaculates into his mother-in-law’s eye, it wasn’t just the shock that got laughs, but the humanity with which it happened. It’s not like we in the audience were thinking “Oh, I’ve been there” but we could see how Frank’s alpha male buddy Casper (Casper Christensen) could lead a lovable yutz like Frank into a situation where this could occur.

Klown’s style of humour feels like every Curb Your Enthusiasm bit that has been rejected for going too far. »

Alpha House: Cancelled But Is Season Three of the Amazon Series Still Possible?

8 August 2016 12:51 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

The Alpha House TV show on Amazon is effectively cancelled, but at yesterday's TCA press session, Amazon Studio boss Roy Price chose to categorize it as not being a "current" show. That said, there is a chance Garry Trudeau's Capitol Hill comedy, starring John Goodman, could be renewed for a third season. Matt Malloy, Clark Johnson, Mark Consuelos, Yara Martinez, Julie White, and Alicia Sable, also star.Should political events inspire another season, assuming the cast and crew were available, Alpha House could return one day in the hazy future. "I like to leave my options open, but I understand what you’re saying," Deadline reports Price said, in response to critics' frustration about Alpha House's nebulous status.Read More… »

‘Alpha House’ Is Shuttered, Or Not, Amazon Exec Tells Frustrated TV Critics: TCA

7 August 2016 3:38 PM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

The D.C.-set, Garry Trudeau-created comedy Alpha House starring John Goodman is “not a current show,” Amazon studio chief Roy Price said this afternoon, closing out the streaming service’s day at TCA. Not maybe such a surprise, given that Tucker Carlon’s political website reported same in May. On the other hand, Price added,  it could return, if political events dictate and other stars align. “I like to leave my options open, but I understand what you’re saying,” Price… »

Blood Simple, Sweet Charlotte, Suicide Squad And Other Scattered Shots And Short Ends

I’ve been back from my Oregon vacation for a couple of weeks now, and though the getaway was a good and necessary one, I’m still in the process of mentally unpacking from a week and a half of relaxing and thinking mostly only about things I wanted to think about. (I also discovered a blackberry cider brewed in the region, the source of a specific sort of relaxation that I’m still finding myself pining for.) It hasn’t helped that our time off and immediate time back coincided with the bombast and general insanity of the Republic National Convention, followed immediately by the disarray and sense of restored hope that bookended the Democrats’ week-long party. The extremity of emotions engendered by those two events, coupled with a profoundly unsettling worry over the base level of our current political discourse and where it may lead this country, hasn »

NBC’s Bob Greenblatt and Jennifer Salke on Donald Trump, Comedy Woes and New Dick Wolf, Paul Haggis Dramas

2 August 2016 10:33 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Even if Donald Trump loses the race for the American presidency, there isn’t room for him back at his old stomping ground.

“He will never be back on the Celebrity Apprentice, as long as I’m here,” NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt told reporters. Would Trump be welcome to star in another show on the network? “I have no idea at this point.”

Did “The Apprentice” and “Celebrity Apprentice” play a role in Trump’s ultimate candidacy? Earlier this summer, NBC’s alternative programming president Paul Telegdy told us “yes.” Greenblatt said he was less sure there was a correlation.

“[‘Doonesbury’ creator] Garry Trudeau was predicting Donald Trump would run for president 15 years before,” he noted. “I think it surprised all of us that [Trump] would want to do this. I guess that’s what’s great about this country.”
