1 August 2003 - Marie died from head injuries following a reported physical dispute with her boyfriend, rocker Bertrand Cantat in the couple's Vilnius hotel room on July 27. An investigation is on-going but no charges have been filed. He said the trauma was accidental.

In March 2004, her boyfriend, rock-musician Bertrand Cantat, was convicted of killing her by a Lithuanian court. He was sentenced to eight years in prison.

The very first and the last movie in which she appeared were both directed by her own mother, Nadine Trintignant (Marie was five-years-old for "mon amour mon amour" and 41 years old for "Colette, une femme libre" (2004)).

When her younger sister Pauline died of crib death in 1970, the then-8-year old Marie became increasingly withdrawn and virtually stopped speaking. Throughout her early life she was hampered by severe shyness; by her mid-teens she had decided to become an actress to combat the affliction.
