Cannes: K5 Picks Up Evel Knievel Documentary ‘Being Evel’

Cannes — Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur’s K5 International is taking the leap with “Being Evel,” the Sundance and SXSW hit documentary with a host of famous talking heads, including Johnny Knoxville, Tony Hawk and George Hamilton. The pic has received critical praise for its warts-and-all insights into one of America’s truly flawed heroes.

Being Evel” tells the story behind the myth of 1970s American daredevil icon and pioneer for today’s extreme sports scene, Robert “Evel” Knievel. It also recounts the previously untold and much darker tale of the man behind the flamboyant cape: a one-time outlaw whose dangerous career spanned 75 ramp-to-ramp motorbike jumps and saw him break almost every bone in his body.

Daredevil documentary played at Sundance and SXSW.

K5 International has mounted Being Evel, the Sundance and SXSW documentary about 1970s daredevil Robert ‘Evel’ Knievel.

The firm will be selling the doc feature at the Cannes Marche from this week.

The film, directed by Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Daniel Junge (Saving Face, They Killed Sister Dorothy), tells the story of the extreme sports pioneer as well as the untold, darker tale of the man behind the cape - a one-time outlaw whose wildly dangerous career spanned 75 ramp-to-ramp motorbike jumps and saw him break every bone in his body.

The doc includes interviews with Johnny Knoxville, Tony Hawk and George Hamilton.

Being Evel is produced by History Films along with Jackass star Johnny Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine and Mat Hoffman from Dickhouse Productions, and Brendan Kiernan and Justin Moore-Lewy at HeLo

Executive producers are Molly Thompson, Susan Werbe, Dirk Hoogstra, Robert Lewis and George Hamilton. »

Premieres galore at Sydney Film Festival

Neil Armfield.s Holding the Man, Simon Stone.s The Daughter, Jeremy Sims. Last Cab to Darwin and Jen Peedom.s feature doc Sherpa will have their world premieres at the Sydney Film Festival.

The festival program unveiled today includes 33 world premieres (including 22 shorts) and 135 Australian premieres (with 18 shorts) among 251 titles from 68 countries.

Among the other premieres will be Daina Reid.s The Secret River, Ruby Entertainment's. ABC-tv miniseries starring Oliver Jackson Cohen and Sarah Snook, and three Oz docs, Marc Eberle.s The Cambodian Space Project — Not Easy Rock .n. Roll, Steve Thomas. Freedom Stories and Lisa Nicol.s Wide Open Sky.

Festival director Nashen Moodley boasted. this year.s event will be far larger than 2014's when 183 films from 47 countries were screened, including 15 world premieres. The expansion is possible in part due to the addition of two new screening venues in Newtown and Liverpool.

WWE Network Partners With ‘Jackass’ Creator, Jerry Springer, Seth Green on 3 New Original Series

WWE Network has premiering eight new original TV series this year, and three of them are collaborations with big names in the industry. Not only is “Jackass” co-creator Jeff Tremaine introducing a new half-hour comedy to viewers in 2015, Jerry Springer and Seth Green are, too. Tremaine’s “Swerved,” which he calls “the ultimate mash-up” of his brand of entertainment, will premiere in May. The network did not reveal any other details about it while making the announcement on Monday. The ninth annual Tribeca/Espn Sports Film Festival that runs as part of the Tribeca Film Festival announced its program last week and includes two world premieres, documentary and narrative features, short films, and panel conversations with top athletes and filmmakers.

As the premier outlet for showcasing independent films that focus on sports and competition, the world premiere of Andrew Nevins’ Play It Forward will serve as the Opening Gala for this year’s program on Thursday, April 16.

The documentary, produced by Cristan Reilly and executive produced by Michael Strahan and Constance Schwartz, observes the sibling dynamic during a pivotal year between legendary Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez and his older brother Chris, whose own football dreams were never realised.

Tff 2015: Tribeca Film Festival Announces 2015 Line-up For Spotlight Program

The 14th edition of the Tribeca Film Festival taking place from April 15 to April 26 in New York City has announced the films selected for screening in the Spotlight screening section.

Co-sponsored by Brookfield Place and The Lincoln Motor Company, Spotlight is destination for today’s most talked about themes and filmmakers and will feature 40 films: 23 narratives and 17 documentaries with 24 of those films being world premieres. Debuting new work from master directors such as the Taviani Brothers (Caesar Must Die), Michael Winterbottom (The Trip To Italy), and Neil Labute (Death At A Funeral), audiences will also be introduced to new voices like first time director Henry Hobson’s Maggie and Pray The Devil Back To Hell producer Abigail Disney’s directorial debut The Armour Of Light.

Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights to acclaimed documentary “Being Evel,” which chronicles the story of notorious stunt performer Robert “Evel” Knievel. After sitting on the bookshelf for for a long while, the bestselling collaborative autobiography written by one of the most badass rock bands of all time, Motley Crue, is finally going to be made into a movie. With a screenplay already at disposal, Focus Features just picked up the scandalous biopic in hopes of getting it up and running. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Focus Features picked up the biopic along with Jeff Tremaine to direct. Tremaine, the director of the Jackass movies should have no problem bringing the extreme, hedonistic story to life. The screenplay was written by Rich Wilkes, xXx writer, and Tom Kapinos, writer for Californication. If the script has any inkling of their their styles demonstrated in xXx and Californication you know it is going to be a gritty ride. Focus Features Picks Up Mötley Crüe Biopic 'The Dirt'

Production company Focus Features has announced that they have pick the rights to the bestseller novel “The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Band” which recounts the story of the popular rock band Mötley Crüe. The members of the band Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Mick Mars, and Nikki Six as well as author Neil Strauss wrote the novel.

The detailed biopic tells the meteoric rise of the band while their members engage in excesses like drug, sex and fights. Jeff Tremaine, of Jackass fame, is attached to direct the film.

According to THR, Focus promises a “Dr. Feelgood” movie in a larger than life depiction of the band’s high and low points .The screenplay was penned by Rich Wilkes and Tom Kapinos. The band members will serve as co-producers.

Motley Crue Movie ‘The Dirt’ Revived at Focus Features

Focus Features is reviving Motley Crue biopic “The Dirt,” which was set up nearly a decade ago at Paramount.

Jeff Tremaine will direct from a screenplay written by Rich Wilkes and Tom Kapinos based on the 2001 autobiography “The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band” by band members Tommy Lee, Vince Neil, Mick Mars, and Nikki Sixx, along with author Neil Strauss.

Producers are Julie Yorn, Erik Olsen and Allen Kovac. Chris Nilsson, Steven Kline and Rick Yorn will exec produce, and the band members will co-produce.

Tremaine has directed all of the “Jackass” films. Josh McLaughlin will oversee the production for Focus.

Larry Charles was attached to direct “The Dirt” for Paramount Classics in 2006 with MTV Films.

The band is currently on its “final tour” with the slogan “All Bad Things Must Come to an End.”
