Angus Sampson and Sarah Snook have joined the cast of Winchester, currently shooting in Melbourne..

The duo join the already-announced Helen Mirren and Jason Clarke in the film, directed by the Spierig brothers Michael and Peter. Snook starred in the Spierigs' last film, Predestination.

Mirren plays Sarah Winchester, who is convinced she's haunted by the souls killed at the hands of the Winchester repeating rifle. After the sudden deaths of her husband and child, she throws herself into the construction of an enormous mansion to keep the evil spirits at bay..

CBS Films has revealed that principal photography on the supernatural thriller Winchester, written and directed by Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig, has started in Melbourne, Australia.

The film stars Helen Mirren and Jason Clarke and follows the story of a firearm heiress who, after convincing herself that she is haunted by the souls of people killed by the Winchester repeating rifle, throws herself into the demanding construction of an enormous mansion designed to keep the evil spirits at bay.

When a San Francisco psychiatrist is dispatched to evaluate her state of mind, he discovers that her obsession may not be so insane after all.

Sarah Snook and Angus Sampson have also joined the cast of the project, which will also shoot at the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, Calfiornia at a later date.

Production begins on Haven’s Los Angeles Lakers doc
Haven Entertainment said on Thursday that shooting and archival retrieval is underway in Los Angeles on the untitled documentary.

The project will chronicle the life of Jerry Buss, the former owner of the basketball dynasty, his relationship with Earvin “Magic” Johnson, and the transformation of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s.

Haven partner Kevin Mann (pictured) and Brendan Bragg, whose credits include Hello My Name Is Doris, are producing with team co-owner Jeanie Buss, and Lakers manager of special events, Linda Rambis.

Kris Belman directs the film, which will explore how Buss built up the team against the backdrop of Los Angeles in the 1980s, right up until Johnson’s retirement following his HIV diagnosis.

CBS Films picks up 'Winchester'

The distributor has acquired Us rights from to Bullitt Entertainment and Diamond Pictures the thriller that will star Helen Mirren.

Michael Spierig and Peter Spierig will direct the story about Sarah Winchester, the guilt-ridden firearms heiress who built a mansion to house what she believed were the spirits of those killed by the Winchester repeating rifle.

The venue is said to be haunted and is situated in northern California.

Production is scheduled in March 2017 on location and in Australia.

The Spierigs wrote the screenplay with Tom Vaughan, while Imagination Design Works’ Brett Tomberlin and Blacklab Entertainment’s Tim McGahan are producing.

Bullitt Entertainment, Diamond Pictures and Blacklab Entertainment are financing the project and Diamond Pictures handles international sales.

Bullitt’s Benedict Carver, Diamond’s Daniel Diamond and Tobin Armbrust serve as executive producers with Andy Trapani, Toni Lianos, Brian Gilbert, Marc Shipper and Simon Oakes.

Carver, Diamond and Wme brokered the deal with CBS Films.

Japanese director Ryuhei Kitamura has come on board to direct “Vessels,” a supernatural thriller based on the history and hauntings aboard the Queen Mary, Variety has learned exclusively.

Variety reported last year that the project would be the first in a slate of films for Ubiquity Studios, which is financing. It plans to start shooting early next year aboard the ship in Long Beach, Calif., as well as at Ubiquity’s studio in Irvine with Kitamura directing from a script by “Anabelle” writer Gary Dauberman.

Brett Tomberlin of Ubiquity is producing with Andrew Trapani (“Haunting in Connecticut”) and Brian Gilbert (“Wrong Turn”) of Nine/8 Entertainment and Mali Elfman (“Before I Wake”). Ubiquity’s Chris Carmichael and Connie Jordan are exec producing.

Filmmaking brothers Michael and Peter Spierig have come on board to direct Hammer Films’ “Winchester,” a supernatural thriller based on the Winchester Mystery House.

The brothers are rewriting a script by Tom Vaughan that tells the story of Sarah Winchester, heir to the Winchester firearms fortune.

Hammer, which acquired the rights to the story in 2012, is planning an early 2015 start date.

Producers are Brett Matthew Tomberlin and Antonia Lianos of Imagination Design Works, Andrew Trapani and Brian Gilbert of Nine/8 Entertainment and Tobin Armbrust and Simon Oakes for Hammer.

The house, marketed as the “world’s most haunted house,” was built by Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester rifle fortune. The Victorian mansion in San Jose, Calif., was under construction around the clock from 1884 until her death in 1922.

Upcoming Thriller to Be Set on Haunted Queen Mary Ship

Though it's been retired since 1967, ocean liner Queen Mary has been a hotbed of paranormal activity over the years, crowned one of the top 10 most haunted places in America by Time Magazine in 2008. The perfect setting for a horror flick? You bet!

As reported by Variety, Ubiquity Studios is financing development and production of its first feature film, which will be set and filmed on the infamous Queen Mary.

"We’re calling it 'The Shining on a ship'," said Ubiquity CEO Chris Carmichael, who will exec produce along with Connie Jordan. Brett Tomberlin of Ubiquity Studios will produce along with Andrew Trapani and Brian Gilbert of Nine/8 Entertainment.

The untitled project will be written by Gary Dauberman, and shooting is set to begin in the spring of 2014.

The Queen Mary first sailed in 1936 and was the Cunard Line’s flagship until being commissioned as an allied troop transport following the outbreak of World War II.

Ubiquity Studios is moving into feature films with a thriller to be set and filmed on the historic ocean liner The Queen Mary.

Ubiquity, based in Irvine, Calif., will finance development and production of the Queen Mary project. Exclusive Media will oversee international sales for the film.

Brett Tomberlin of Ubiquity Studios will produce along with Andrew Trapani and Brian Gilbert of Nine/8 Entertainment. The trio is also producing the previously announced “Winchester Mystery House” film with Exclusive Media.

Gary Dauberman will write the screenplay for the film, inspired by the history of the Queen Mary. His credits include “Crawlspace” for New Line, “Burst” for Mandate and “Hellfest” for CBS Films.

“We’re calling it ‘The Shining’ on a ship,” said Ubiquity CEO Chris Carmichael, who will exec produce along with Connie Jordan.

Showtime is developing a one-hour scripted series that takes a peek behind the scenes of a professional basketball team, with NBA coaching great Phil Jackson and current Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis on board as exec producers.
