Daniel Dae Kim made headlines this year for leaving “Hawaii Five-0” over issues of pay inequality, and later, for replacing actor Ed Skrein as a Japanese-American character in the big-screen remake of “Hellboy.” Both instances involved how Asian Americans are still underrepresented in the entertainment industry, and it’s an issue that requires more discussion in order to foster understanding of how the so-called “model minority” continues to be marginalized.

It wasn’t that long ago that very few actors of Asian descent were even considered Hollywood stars. In an interview with IndieWire, Kim reflected on the few Asian actors who were his role models growing up.

Tomorrow starts today. Disney Channel has renewed its live-action Andi Mack TV show for a second season, about a month before the season one finale airs. Although the renewal is not yet posted to the Disney-abc press site, Deadline has confirmed it. A coming of age series, Andi Mack centers on Andi (Peyton Elizabeth Lee). When her sister Rebecca or "Bex" returns, Andi learns the woman is actually her biological mother, and that Celia (Lauren Tom), the woman who raised her, is actually her grandmother. ‘Andi Mack’ Renewed for Season 2 at Disney Channel

Freshman comedy series “Andi Mack” has been renewed for a second season at the Disney Channel, Variety has learned.

The series follows the titular character, a 13 year old girl who discovers that the girl she always thought was her older sister is in fact her mother. The revelation sends her down a new path of self discovery.

It stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee as Andi Mack, Lilan Bowden as Bex Mack, Lauren Tom as Celia Mack, Joshua Rush as Cyrus Goodman, Sofia Wylie as Buffy Driscoll and Asher Angel as Jonah Beck. Recurring cast members are Stoney Westmoreland as Henry “Ham” Mack, Emily Skinner as Amber, and Trent Garrett as Bowie Quinn.

Review: The Zeta Project

Lost amid the hubbub over the animated series based on the traditional DC Comics was The Zeta Project, a fun spinoff from Warner Animation’s first original creation, Batman Beyond. Thanks to Warner Archives the two season series, spanning 2001-2002, is being released on DVD.

The series is focused on Zeta (Diedrich Bader), formally known as Infiltration Unit Zeta, a synthoid, who works for the Nsa. The machine was introduced in the season two Batman Beyond episode “Zeta,” written by Robert Goodman, who developed the spinoff.

He violates his programming when he is asked to kill an innocent and goes on the run, vowing never to kill again.
