According to the Hollywood Reporter, the pair have been picked by the Weinstein Company for the roles played by François Cluzet and Omar Sy in the original film. Released in 2011 and directed by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, The Intouchables told the story of the unlikely friendship between a wealthy quadriplegic man and his caregiver. It was a massive homegrown hit, grossing $166m (£115.4m) and selling 19.4m tickets – and is the second highest-grossing homegrown film at the French box office (after Bienvenue Chez les Ch’tis). Despite several false starts, it looks as though The Weinstein Company’s Intouchables remake is beginning to set the wheels in motion today, with Deadline reporting that Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart are in negotiations to headline.
It should be noted that, while neither deal is signed and sealed at the time of writing, talks are reportedly at an advanced stage, as The Weinstein Company is eager to fire up production on its remake of Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano’s French dramedy during the summer. Prior to today’s announcement, both Colin Firth and Tom Shadyac had flirted with key roles in the retelling. Elsewhere, citing sources close to the production, Variety claims that Simon Curtis has closed a deal to helm the western remake.
First released in 2011 by TWC, Intouchables has been ripe for the remake treatment ever since it pulled in a respectable $416 million overseas.

The original was released by the Weinstein Co. in 2011, grossing $416 million overseas. The movie follows an aristocrat who, after becoming a paraplegic following a paragliding accident, hires a young man from the projects to be his caregiver.
The Weinstein Co. quickly acquired the remake rights and set Paul Feig to pen the script. The film is high priority for the studio, with shooting expected to start this summer.
Cranston is coming off his Oscar-nominated performance for his portrayal of blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in Jay Roach’s “Trumbo.” He can be seen next in HBO’s “All the Way,” a telepic based on his play in which he portrays Lyndon B. Johnson. »
