'League' recruits effects teams

A handful of special and visual effects shops have been hired to work on 20th Century Fox's "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen." According to Fox vp visual effects Rich Thorne, the Victorian-era project about a team of extraordinary figures culled from great adventure literature is "the biggest miniature film Fox has done since 'Titanic.' " Tippett Studio has been awarded character animation shots in a pivotal fight sequence between Dante Aligheri and Mr. Edward Hyde. Double Negative in London is handling the nautilus sequences and simulated water shots. Miniature shop Hunter/Gratzner is creating major set pieces for action sequences that occur in Venice, Italy. CPS (Cinema Production Services Inc.) is crafting interior miniatures and indoor sets. Hollywood-based facility Cinesite is engaged in negotiations for 400-plus shots. »
