As curator of the director’s eye project for lettera27 Foundation, I spoke with director and producer Victoria Thomas about internet platforms and crowdfunding. Victoria is from Sierra Leone and was raised in the UK, where she now lives and works. Getting in the room with top casting directors ranks as an achievement for many actors. Now it's only a mouse click away. As part of its LifeRaft series, the Screen Actors Guild Foundation is livestreaming a panel of four prominent casting directors Tuesday night. TV and features casting director Ronna Kress ("Without a Trace," "Diary of a Wimpy Kid") and Jeanne McCarthy ("The Mindy Project," "21 Jump Street") and the feature-focused Mindy Marin ("Hangover III") and Victoria Thomas ("Django Unchained") will "share stories and anecdotes as they reflect over their careers and help provide a big picture perspective of what it is like to work with agents, managers, directors, producers, studio executives and actors," according to a release. Chicago – One of the many things I love about The Criterion Collection is the even battlefield that it creates within its own archives. A film by Alfred Hitchcock or Akira Kurosawa or Charles Chaplin can sit next to a cult hit like “Repo Man.” I grew up in the era of “Repo Man“‘s growing cult status and it’s amazing to me to see this midnight movie given the same level of respect as films widely recognized as classics. “Repo Man” is a classic in its own way and the people at Criterion recognize that. Fans of the movie, and there are Many, will be more than satisfied.

The 1984 movie stars the always captivating Harry Dean Stanton (Seven Psychopaths) as a weathered repo man in desolate downtown Los Angeles, and Emilio Estevez (The Breakfast Club) as the nihilistic middle-class punk he takes under his wing. The job becomes more than either of them bargained for when they get involved in reclaiming a mysterious—and otherworldly—Chevy Malibu with a hefty reward attached to it.
Featuring an ultimate early-eighties L.A. punk soundtrack featuring music from Black Flag, Suicidal Tendencies, The Circle Jerks, Fear and other, the grungily hilarious R-rated Repo Man still rules (while being a politically trenchant take on President Reagan’s domestic and foreign policy)!
“Let’s go get sushi and not pay.” Many films would kill to have as many quotable lines and memorable scenes as Repo Man has during its 92 minute running time.
