It's all about the sound! The Motion Picture Sound Editors unveiled the winners of the 2016 Golden Reel Awards and "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "The Revenant" tied for the Best Sound Editing: Feature English Language . FX/Foley. Latest 2015 Awards Roundup: "Birdman" Triumphs with Cinematography, Sound Mixing and Editing Awards!

With one week before the Academy Awards, "Birdman" continues its triumphant march towards Oscar glory. Just this past weekend, the Alejandro González Iñárritu contender won the top awards at the American Society of Cinematographers (Asc) awards, the 62nd Sound Editors' Golden Reel, and the 51st Cinema Audio Society. The film also took home the Best Contemporary Hair Styling award from the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild.

‘Birdman,’ ‘Unbroken’ Lead Mpse Golden Reel Awards
The 62nd Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Awards recognized features including “Birdman,” “Big Hero 6,” “Unbroken” and “Get on Up” at Sunday night’s ceremony at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.

Birdman” took the sound editing music award, while James Brown biopic “Get On Up” received the musical feature sound editing award. “Unbroken” won for dialogue/Adr, while “American Sniper” won for FX/Foley. “Big Hero 6″ took the sound and music editing award for feature animation.

The Golden Reel Awards recognize outstanding achievement in sound editing in 20 categories including feature films, long-form and short-form television, animation and documentaries.

Darren Aronofsky was honored with the Filmmaker award, with supervising sound editor Craig Henighan presenting,while the Career Achievement Award went to supervising sound editor Skip Lievsay, with Greg Orloff presenting.

Motion Picture Sound Editors Announce Golden Reel Nominees
American Sniper,” “Big Hero 6,” “Birdman,” “The Lego Movie” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” have been nominated by the Motion Picture Sound Editors for the 62nd Mpse Golden Reel Awards, to be held Feb. 15 at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles.

The Mpse announced nominees in 20 categories Wednesday.

“2014 was a fantastic year for sound,” said Mpse president Frank Morrone. “The advent of new distribution channels, streaming services and gaming platforms is creating additional opportunities for sound artists to practice their craft beyond the traditional venues of film and television. This year’s nominations reflect that change, spanning an amazing diversity of mediums and genres, all executed at the highest level of creativity. We are truly inspired and impressed by the work of our colleagues.”

Darren Aronofsky will receive the filmmaker award, and Skip Lievsay will receive the career achievement award.

Hollywood’s sound pros nominated Birdman and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for three awards apiece as the Motion Picture Sound Editors unveiled nods for its 62nd Mpse Golden Reel Awards, honoring the best feature film, television, animation and computer entertainment work of the year.
