George Michael Remembered as Hollywood Pays Tribute to Pop Superstar

George Michael Remembered as Hollywood Pays Tribute to Pop Superstar
Earlier today, we reported the unfortunate news that pop music icon George Michael had passed away at the age of 53, after suffering from a heart failure. While his death was certainly unexpected, there is no foul play suspected, as the Hollywood community and fans around the world are in mourning at this devastating loss. As fans begin the grieving process, we have compiled a number of statements and tributes that have been sent out through social media over the past 24 hours, since the musician's untimely passing was announced.

One of the first to pay tribute to this late musician was his collaborator in the 1980s pop group Wham!, Andrew Ridgeley. Both George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley attended high school together, before forming Wham! in 1981. The group skyrocketed to fame with their 1984 album Make It Big, which was certified 6x platinum and included the smash hit singles "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" and "Freedom.

Grange Hill: revisiting 12 memorable school trips

Alex Westthorp Nov 16, 2016

Remember when Grange Hill went to the Isle Of Wight? Or the escaped puma? Here are 12 memorable school trip episodes from the early years...

With just over thirty years worth of screen time, there are plenty of memorable moments in Grange Hill. From its inception in February 1978 the programme proved both entertaining and controversial. It tackled many difficult subjects head-on: bullying, vandalism, racism, censorship, shop-lifting, school uniform protest, teenage pregnancy and - most famously of all - drugs. However, every now and again it would attempt to give viewers a break from the everyday and head off on a day trip or weekend excursion.

BFI Review – Nine 1/2 Weeks (1985)

Nine 1/2 Weeks, 1985.

Directed by Adrian Lyne.

Starring Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger.

Synopsis:

Two lovers begin a passionate affair that toys with sadomasochistic fantasies and dominance…

Watching When Harry Met Sally during the BFI’s ‘Love’ Season, it’s always worth a chuckle when Harry confidently asserts that Sally’s problem is how she hasn’t had “great sex”. Released three years prior, Nine ½ Weeks, starring Mickey Rourke and Kim Basinger, is only interested in “great sex”. Nine ½ Weeks was the Fifty Shades of Grey of its time and, rather than become a bestseller, it become a box-office flop in the Us with critics only coming around to its charms after its release. The central relationship between Rourke and Basinger, though a little creepy at times, is often balanced by Basinger’s comfortable laugh and relatable shock at some of his suggestions. Ignoring the clear gender imbalance, there

Gwyneth Paltrow arrived with her rumored boyfriend, Glee producer Brad Falchuk, while Reese Witherspoon and her husband and Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale were also in attendance. A Short History of Pop-Up Video

  • PEOPLE.com
Thirty years ago this week, Video Hits One began offering the too-old-for-mtv crowd a sensible alternative. That channel would eventually grow into the entity we know today as VH1, and with that name, it would nail that pop culture nostalgia sweet spot with series like Behind the Music, VH1 Storytellers and more. But above all the VH1 hits, it was Pop-Up Video that captured the hearts and minds of a certain kind of media-addled, know-it-all geek. The series first exploded in 1994, and our culture of nostalgia and trivia obsession has only grown stronger in the Internet age. With a hat

X Factor: Scarlett Quinn's future in balance as she forgets her lyrics

X Factor hopeful Scarlett Quinn places Simon Cowell in a difficult position when she falls apart during her Six Chair Challenge audition.

The 28-year-old singer, who appeared at her first audition as part of husband/wife double act Kitten and the Hip, forgets nearly all her lyrics during her Boot Camp performance, which airs tonight (September 27).

She is left with only her previous performances and

Forget Jamie Dornan, Meet Dakota Johnson's Real Christian Grey
Dakota Johnson traded Christian Grey for Drowners frontman Matthew Hitt on Wednesday when the young couple hit the streets of NYC for a Pda-filled walk. It isn't clear how long the two have been dating, but Dakota was most recently involved with actor Jordan Masterson, and he had visited Dakota on the set of Fifty Shades of Grey back in January. Matthew, meanwhile, knows a thing or two about dating famous kids (Dakota is the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson) as he was previously linked to Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor, the daughter of Amanda de Cadenet and Duran Duran's Nigel John Taylor. The two are both in NYC for work, as Dakota is promoting the new trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey alongside her costar Jamie Dornan, and Matthew is touring the area with his band. Dakota and Jamie were up early on Thursday morning when they

“Glee” Finale Recap 5.20: The Luckiest Guy in the World

Here it is kids, the Glee finale.

Sam is raring to go because he’s landed an audition for Treasure Trails, which I think is either some sort of man-scaping product, or a new show at Cedar Point. One day he hopes his dream of appearing half naked on the side of a bus will become a reality. Mercedes is cool as long as she can scrawl “Mine” all over every one she sees. She’s busy getting ready to tour the malls of America like a regular old Tiffany. At Rachel and Kurt’s apartment, she preps the gang for the arrival of the writer the network hired to work on her pilot script. When there is a knock at the door, we are pleased to see our darling Brittany standing there. She’s all tan and glowy. Apparently she’s been stuck at the airport without a passport to come home for months.

Whenever we hear exciting news about Doctor Who, it's usually to do with new actors joining the show. Over the past couple of years we've had a new companion, a new Doctor, a few returnees and even a new … whatever it is that John Hurt is playing. Now there's some behind-the-camera news that is just as thrilling, with the announcement that Ben Wheatley, one of Britain's most talented film directors, has signed on to direct the first two episodes of Peter Capaldi's tenure. But what could he bring to the show?

1. His own people

Directors like to work with people they have already established a rapport and a shorthand with, as it saves a lot of time cutting out any getting-to-know-you awkwardness.

Duran Duran's John Taylor: Recovery 'Never Stops'
If there were a class on How To Survive Pop Stardom 101, John Taylor didn't take it. With his band Duran Duran, the bassist went from teen music geek to international pin-up almost overnight with '80s hits like "Rio" and "Girls on Film." But during the height of his fame, "I didn't know how to turn on the off switch," says Taylor, now 52. As he recounts in his new memoir, In the Pleasure Groove: Love, Death & Duran Duran, Taylor became dependent on drugs - specifically, cocaine and Ecstasy - and alcohol, losing a decade to hard partying, band turmoil and

Gwyneth Paltrow talks women and Zoe Saldana talks sex with Amanda de Cadenet

A great conversation between women can be a revealing, endearing and helpful exchange. Trying to capture this on television is often the opposite; too many people talk at once, and someone is usually promoting a project.

Lifetime's "The Conversation With Amanda de Cadenet," premiering Thursday, April 26, is singular. De Cadenet has hit upon a terrific concept.

She talks to one woman at a time in her Los Angeles living room. As they converse, they share what women do when cameras aren't rolling; they talk about love, marriage and children. For those weary of movie stars showing up on every morning and late-night show to pitch their latest projects, this is a lovely respite: No one promotes anything!

"The idea came about from my own desperate need to find role models that I could relate to," de Cadenet tells Zap2it. "And I just couldn't see them anywhere. I had to

Ten Hot Cavemen Who Can Club Us Any Time!

I understand it’s an important find and all, but you’ve gotta admit this “gay caveman” story that made the news last week is also pretty hilarious. A gay caveman? That’s a stand-up comedy routine, not an archaeological discovery!

AfterElton.com already took on the problems with how the media reported the story, plus we also provided our own proof that us ‘mos have always been around – even during the Stone Age.

Nevertheless, since the word “caveman” somehow never fails to bring to my mind the image of a hot Abercrombie & Fitch model posing in a loincloth, the story inevitably got me to thinking of the dozens of Hollywood-ized interpretations of early humans that moviegoers have been treated to over the past several decades.

True, the majority of these interpretations aren’t exactly, shall we say, accurate (to my knowledge, they didn’t actually have laser-whitening capabilities back

Allison Anders' Non Britpop Movie

Allison Anders' Non Britpop Movie
Music has always been a major element of Allison Anders' films. "Border Radio," "Grace of My Heart" and "Sugar Town" are actually about musicians. "Sugar Town" is named after a Nancy Sinatra song and features John Taylor of Duran Duran, Martin Kemp of Spandau Ballet and John Doe of X in major roles. The lead character of "Things Behind the Sun" (named after a Nick Drake song) is about a music journalist who tracks down a childhood friend turned rising rock star.

"Things Behind the Sun" came out in 2001, and Anders hasn't done a film since, directed instead episodes of "The L Word" and "What About Brian" and founding the Don't Knock The Rock Film And Music Festival. But she has a new project with longtime collaborator Kurt Voss up on Kickstarter:

"Strutter" tells the story of 22 year old Brett (Flannery Lunsford), a singer for a Los Angeles rock
