No Sanctuary Season 5 for Syfy

22 May 2012 3:48 PM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

For fans of Sanctuary that were hoping the Syfy series would be shown a little mercy and allowed to continue on with Season 5, I have some seriously grim news for you. I’m sure you can guess where this is going, so I’ll just cut to the chase; after months of waiting and wondering if the Season 4 finale would be it for the show, Syfy announced Sanctuary has been canceled. The Canadian-made series hasn’t been the most talked about science fiction program, lacking the fan-support of such shows as Warehouse 13 and Dr. Who, so it’s not surprising Syfy pulled the plug.

TVLine reported on the decision to axe Sanctuary, with series lead Amanda Tapping expressing her disappointment on Twitter, saying, “’Bloody hell’ indeed,” but she also thanked the show’s fans for all of their love and support. »

Sanctuary Cancelled, Syfy Confirms

Put this one in the 'for those who held out false hope' column,  Syfy has confirmed that Sanctuary is indeed cancelled.  It became obvious that a renewal was not going to happen when the announcement of Sanctuary's fate dragged on well past the typical renewal/cancellation window.  Then there is the fact that Syfy turned over the show's production space in Canada to another show.  That was telling.  Now, Craig Engler has taken to twitter to confirm what fans feared:

Engler was referring to the comments by Mark Stern, President, Syfy Original Content and Co-Head, Universal Cable Productions, who said: “We’re honored to have been part of this incredible series. In addition to garnering unmatched devotion by fans worldwide, Sanctuary was a bona fide trailblazer, setting new standards with its highly innovative production techniques – including pioneering green screen and Red camera technology – and Emmy-nominated visual effects. »

Sanctuary: Cancelled (Finally); No Season Five

21 May 2012 7:05 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

It's the bad news that we suspected was coming. Syfy has cancelled Sanctuary after four seasons on the air. The defacto series finale aired on December 30, 2011.

Sanctuary revolves around Doctor Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) and her quest to protect "Abnormals" -- various animals and people who have extraordinary powers and abilities. The cast also includes Agam Darshi, Christopher Heyerdahl, Robin Dunne, and Ryan Robbins.

The series began as a series of free webisodes that were released in 2007. Syfy picked up Sanctuary as a regular series in 2008 and ended up producing 59 episodes over the show's four season run.

The last episode of the fourth season of Sanctuary aired in December and as time has gone on, it seemed to become apparent that the cable channel wouldn't be producing any more.

Syfy Cancels 'Sanctuary' After Four Seasons

21 May 2012 5:08 PM, PDT | AirlockAlpha.com | See recent Airlock Alpha news »

The news "Sanctuary" fans had feared the most came down the mountain Monday. And it wasn't good. After four seasons, Syfy is ending the run of the Amanda Tapping and Robin Dunne series that helped start a movement to put television shows online, and a series that helped pioneer the practice of virtual sets which is now more commonplace than ever in the medium. "We're honored to have been part of this incredible series," Syfy original programming president Mark Stern said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "In addition to garnering unmatched devotion by fans worldwide, 'Sanctuary' was a bona fide trailblazer, setting new standards with its highly innovative production techniques -- including pioneering green screen and Red camera technology -- and Emmy-nominated special effects." Sanctuary is Not Dead, Says Amanda Tapping

18 May 2012 4:21 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Amanda Tapping as Dr. Helen Magnus in Sanctuary.

Sanctuary isn’t dead. That is what star and co-executive producer Amanda Tapping told me when I sat down with her last week as she was preparing to direct an episode of the upcoming Space series Primeval: New World.

“I don’t think that Sanctuary is dead. If you look really closely you can see the chest rising and falling and I’m standing by with the paddles,” she said, smiling.

Fans have been wondering what has become of the Canadian sci-fi series since the fourth season ended last Christmas. CinemaSpy recently ran a poll asking our readers which of a number of science fiction series they would like to see return for another season: As of today Sanctuary has received over 100,000 votes.

Neither of the North American broadcasters—Space in Canada and Syfy in the U.S.—has said whether Sanctuary has been renewed. »

Kristin Kreuk Would Like You to Drink Her 'Space Milkshake'

16 May 2012 10:00 AM, PDT | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

No, really -- Smallville's Kristin Kreuk would Very much like you to drink her Space Milkshake. And she's joined several other genre stars -- including Sanctuary's Robin Dunne and Amanda Tapping and Lord of the Rings' Billy Boyd -- in an attempt to make sure you slurp down every last drop. Check out a trailer for the upcoming extremely cheesy-looking low-budget sci-fi horror spoof after the jump. Space Milkshake was shot last year and, according to its distributor Joker Films, is currently in post-production. It's written and directed by Armen Evrensel. Here's the synopsis: "Jimmy, a low rated computer technician, has been assigned to an orbital sanitation station (garbage truck in space). When »

Amanda Tapping and Robin Dunne’s Space Milkshake Trailers Brings All the Geeks to the Yard

9 May 2012 4:30 PM, PDT | SciFiCool.com | See recent SciFiCool.com news »

Never heard of Armen Evrensel’s “Space Milkshake” until now? Join the club. The film looks like a big sci-fi gag, with “Sanctuary” stars Amanda Tapping and Robin Dunne playing two members of a spaceship staffed by four humans. The tagline, “We’re ducked”, is intriguing, though. Or as the very brisk official synopsis put it: Four spaceworkers on a run down orbital sanitation station run into a few problems when they salvage a strange device from space ship wreckage. Yeah, not much there. Apparently one of those “few problems” involves giant alien creatures and possibly the end of humanity as we know it. Well, except for them. The film also co-stars Kristen Kreuk (of “Smallville” fame) and Billy Boyd (of “Lord of the Rings” trilogy fame). “Space Milkshake” is due sometime in 2012. When that happens, we’re all ducked. »

Blood & Chrome and general updates

28 March 2012 6:54 PM, PDT | CapricaTV | See recent CapricaTV news »

Eventful week. To play catch-up:

The big news that every site reported in a slightly different way is that Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome will be a digital series and a TV film, but not a TV show, at least not one produced by Syfy/Universal Cable Prods. You have probably read the Deadline article by now.

With the possibility that Universal may still shop B&C around, it doesn't sound like they have any immediate plans to make more of it beyond the existing pilot/web series/Mow.

No word yet on a release date, but Battlestar Wiki reports that we'll be seeing Blood & Chrome as a web series first and then as a TV movie.

Doug Drexler posted this the other day (full post at the link):

If sets had been built for this show, it would have cost 6 million easily, instead of only the 2 million it did cost, »
