‘Jack the Giant Killer’ Gets Green Light, Polish

Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer has received the green light from New Line Cinema following some script work by Singer’s The Usual Suspects writer Christopher McQuarrie.

The draft by Darren Lemke with revisions by Mark Bomback and Tim Talbott had needed to be reworked before the project got the go ahead when McQuarrie stepped in.  This freed up Singer to act as a hands-on producer for Fox’s X-Men: First Class, which went to director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, Stardust) when Singer was locked into this re-imagining.

Aaron Johnson, who starred in Kick-Ass and was rumored for a role in Vaughn’s current hero flick, is the favorite for the titular Jack.  Singer is “sweet on Johnson,” according to Deadline, though the director and New Line will continue to see other young actors for the part and supporting roles.

I’d expect Johnson to be competing with many »
