Ex-husband of Maggie McNamara.
Original drummer for the Firehouse Five Plus Two Dixieland jazz band with Ward Kimball on trombone and Frank Thomas on piano.
Served in the U.S. 8th Air Force during World War II.
Best known as the creator of the TV series "Mr. Peepers" starring Wally Cox and for writing and directing the two films that made Hayley Mills a teenage star: Pollyanna (1960) and The Parent Trap (1961).
Wrote comedy for radio.
Began his career ushering at the Warner Brothers movie theater on Hollywood Boulevard and later joined the Disney organisation as an office boy, earning $15 a week. By 1938, he had worked his way up the ladder to assistant animator under Ward Kimball which entailed a $5 per week pay rise. He rejoined Disney after wartime service as writer/director.
