Comedy Central Orders Nick Swardson Sketch Show

4 November 2009 8:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Comedy Central seems to be pretty hungry for comedian-run sketch shows lately. They recently premiered the pilot of The Jeff Dunham Show to lukewarm reception, and another show starring Gabriel Iglesias and Bill Engvall is on the way. Earlier this week, yet another show was announced, in the form of a pilot for a show starring comedian Nick Swardson.

Swardson has made his way around the stand up circuit for years now, but most people will remember him from his supporting roles in Grandma’s Boy, Benchwarmers, and You Don’t Mess With The Zohan (he must be liked by the Sandler camp).

The network is apparently more than happy to add Swardson’s creativity to the growing camp of Comedy Central’s original programming. From The Hollywood Reporter:

“We love Nick at Comedy Central and even more importantly, our audience loves Nick,” said Comedy Central programming president Lauren Corrao. »

Swardson Showcase

29 October 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Nick Swardson, who was best known as Reno 911's recurring character Terry Bernardino (the rollerskating homosexual prostitute), just inked another deal with Comedy Central, this time for his own as-yet-untitled sketch series. I hope Swardson didn't think he could revolutionize the puppet-fronted minstrel show market. But really, what other ideas are there? So far, I can only come up with marionette-fronted blackface. That will have to do. To the copyright office, Jeeves. [Comedy Central] »

[DVD Review] Nick Swardson: Seriously, Who Farted?

17 October 2009 4:00 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Stand-up comedy, how unfunny you can be sometimes. You’re not like a TV show or movie where maybe a different funny character will come along if we don’t like the first one, and you’re not short like a skit or a sketch, and you really don’t sing or dance at all much, do you? No, you’re pretty much like an old, obsolete toy. Which means you can either be really pure and fantastic, or just outdated, sad, and desperate for love. Nick Swardson’s stand up, you fit into that second category.

Mostly known for his role as roller-skating prostitute Terry on Reno911!, Swardson might trick you into buying this DVD because of how funny he is on that show, performing Hj’s on the highway with friendly abandon. But make no mistake, in his stand-up routine, Swardson comes strictly from the perspective of the Hj’d. »

Fat Guys at the Movies Ep. 136 – Where the Fat Things Are

On This Week's Show: Neil stuns the interwebs by once again seeing none of the new movies this week, but Kevin swoops in to save the day with his reviews of Where the Wild Things Are and Law Abiding Citizen. However, due to the fact that Screen Gems releases total crap, neither of them were afforded a chance to see The Stepfather, but that doesn't stop the Fat Guys from offering their opinions. And speaking of opinions, in honor of Where the Wild Things Are, Kevin and Neil throw down a Fat Guy Five about great adaptations of children's books before Neil makes a relatively creepy revelation about himself at the climax of the show. Tarantino and Roth Go ‘Artist on Artist’

20 August 2009 3:45 PM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Though Myspace has become mostly superfluous in the days of Facebook and Twitter, they still have some cool video projects such as Zach Galfiniaikis’ Between Two Ferns and their series Artist on Artist in which an artist in a particular field gets to jam with another. For the most part, the two artists are linked by their most recent project, like Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller, or Adam Sandler and Nick Swardson. With Inglourious Basterds, hitting theaters tomorrow, Director Quentin Tarantino got to sit down with his unofficial protègè Eli Roth.

They inevitably go back to their favorite subject of themselves after a few minutes and a few glasses of wine, but it’s still interesting to see the two gossip about the production of the film, Pitt’s super-stardom, and more. For all the fun, check out the video after the jump.

Reno 911!: Comedy Central Pulls the Plug on Cops Series

14 August 2009 3:53 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

After six seasons, Comedy Central has cancelled their mockumentary series, Reno 911!.

The satirical program is based on Fox's Cops reality show that follows real police officers as they capture criminals on urban streets. Reno 911! follows the members of a fictitious police department in Reno, Nevada. Filled with lots of politically-incorrect humor, much of the episodes are improvised.

The ensemble cast includes Cedric Yarbrough, Niecy Nash, Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon, Kerri Kenney, Carlos Alazraqui, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Mary Birdsong, Nick Swardson, Toby Huss, and Jim Rash.

The show has been a staple of the Comedy Central cable channel since 2003. It was so successful that it spawned a feature film, Reno 911: Miami, in 2007. The movie didn't break any box office records but later earned over $16 million in DVD sales and led to a second, extra-unrated, release. »

Rehab guru 'Jacked' for CMT

30 June 2009 5:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

After making a name for himself in the celebrity rehabilitation genre with VH1's "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew" and its spinoffs "Sober House" and the upcoming "Celebrity Rehab -- Sex Addition," reality producer John Irwin is branching out with "All Jacked Up," a hillbilly-themed series for CMT.

Slated to premiere at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 22, "All Jacked Up" features host C. Thomas Howell traveling the country in search of outlandish, funny and extreme stunts, sports, events, people and inventions.

Each of the eight half-hour episodes, from Irwin Entertainment, contains four segments featuring subjects ranging from eating contests and ostrich racing to demolition derbies, jet-powered outhouses and chainsaw jugglers.

Although he makes a good living as a reality producer ("Celebrity Rehab" is in production on its third season, and "Sober House" recently was renewed for a second season), Irwin also stays close to his comedy roots.

Don Johnson a Porn Director!

After watching too many episodes of Miami Vice back in the '80s, I often wondered if Don Johnson had a proclivity for the seamier side of life.
