The cast and creators of TV’s “smartest, funniest and now Emmy-nominated” The Big Bang Theory dropped in on Comic-Con today to talk about the upcoming 5th season of the popular series. Executive producers Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Steve Molaro joined principal cast Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch on stage. In a nice touch for fans of the show, Carol Ann Susi provided the disembodied voice of Mrs. Wolowitz to introduce the panel. Hit the jump for more behind-the-scenes shenanigans and sneak peeks of the upcoming season. After playing a short blooper reel from the previous season, creator Chuck Lorre took the stage to talk about The Big Bang Theory, which in his words is “not a show about nerds, but a show about extraordinary people.” Those extraordinary people sat along the panel with Lorre and reminisced about their »

The gang joins Howard at the hospital when his mother has an apparent heart attack after hearing Howard and Bernadette are engaged.
Howard’s mother (Carol Ann Susi) has never been shown onscreen. She usually yells at Howard from offstage. Though she has said she wants him to move out on his own, she does dote on him as if he were a child. For his part, Howard wants to move out, but he hasn’t yet. Given this dynamic, fans had to wonder whether Howard’s mother would approve of Bernadette. This episode did a good job of keeping us, and Bernadette herself, in suspense.
Meanwhile, the hospital proved an excellent setting to keep all the characters involved. I thought Sheldon would enjoy going to the hospital for the chance to have various check-ups. Instead, the writers played up his fear of infection, and he almost didn’t come along. »

The CBS comedy returns next week and Zap2it spoke with Helberg about what to expect from the aftermath of his character's proposal.
"The rest of the season is sort of dealing with [the engagement] -- Trying to break the news to my mother, which of course is very problematic," Helberg explains. "There's sort of issues with Leonard and dating Raj's sister and how that affects Penny. It's a lot of falling apart and getting into trouble and things like that, so it should be exciting."
"It's exciting to watch these guys succeed and completely fail," he adds. "So you'll see a lot of that. As soon as they do something right, something wrong happens."
As for Mama Wolowitz's (Carol Ann Susi) reaction to the news, Helberg »
How-ard!! With two short but knife-sharp syllables and a whole lot of nosy questions, Wolowitz's overbearing mother on The Big Bang Theory is quickly establishing herself as one of television's great unseen characters. Think Charlie from Charlie's Angels or Rhoda's Carlton the Doorman, but with a Noo Yawk accent and louder. Much louder. We dialed up the actress responsible for the hilarious holler, Carol Ann Susi, whose on-camera credits include Seinfeld's famous episode with Keith Hernandez, "The Boyfriend." And, yes, she really sounds like that in real life.
