4 May 2012 1:00 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

The Grudge director Takashi Shimizu’s latest project is titled Scared of the Dark and is being developed by Ghost House Pictures. We’ve received some new casting and character information, and wanted to share it with our readers.

It was previously announced that Morgane Slemp and David Gallagher were cast in the film. The movie will center around Olivia (Slemp) and her boyfriend Adam (Gallagher), and the story is said to be similar in nature to The Grudge. Other actors that have joined the cast include Dawn of the Dead‘s Jake Weber playing the part of Olivia’s father, Chloé Auger playing a younger Olivia, and Yuya Ozeki (The Grudge series).

Although not yet cast in the film, we hear that producers have been looking at Marielle Jaffe for the role of Olivia’s sister and it is looking likely that Alison Lohman will join the cast as Adam’s sister. »

10 Stalled Film & TV Adaptations That We Want To See Made

8 March 2012 2:23 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

At any given moment in the nebulous world of big studio film production there are as many phantoms floating around as there are solid movies made. Regardless of whether these loosely connected collections of ideas, scripts, and attached names ever find a home and a green light, these potential projects permeate production offices, studio meetings, agents’ agendas as well as blogs and news sites just like this.

Of these phantoms, those that draw the most passionate feedback, whether they spark hope for the possibility of seeing a childhood memory brought to life on the big screen or threaten to rip apart the internet under the weight of fans’ collective rage, are those that are adapted from works of science fiction and fantasy. These adaptations continue to be the go to projects of many producers due to the burgeoning success of the genres in film and television (thanks to the floodgate »

More Low Budget Horror Flicks Coming from Warner Bros. and Primal Pictures

6 March 2012 11:19 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Given the success of movies like Paranormal Activity and Insidious, Hollywood is finally catching on to the fact that you don't need a huge budget to make a good movie. Yeah, and the box office dollars don't hurt either!

According to Deadline producers Roy Lee, John Middleton, and Lawrence Grey have partnered in Primal Pictures, a new genre arm of Vertigo Entertainment. The company will share the first look deal that Vertigo has with Warner Bros, and a big part of Primal’s mission is to put the studio into the ultra-low-budget genre game. Primal will also produce a slate of micro-budget films with independent equity financing.

Among the projects you can expect to see from Primal are:

Hidden from writer-directors Matt and Ross Duffer. The flick focuses on a family who escape a mysterious outbreak by taking refuge in a bomb shelter. The Cure, a film about a husband »

Marcus Nispel to Direct Hack/Slash Movie

17 January 2012 2:46 PM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Marcus Nispel is a director who has built a career on lazy reboots of classic genre franchises. I don't think many people would call his remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th or Conan the Barbarian particularly good (in fact, some would call them downright dreadful), but they still made enough money based on the franchise names alone that he somehow continues to find work. Fortunately, for his next project, it looks like he will take a break from the remakes in order to put together an adaptation of a popular comic book series instead. Unfortunately, that comic book is Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli's Hack/Slash, and if you are a horror fan familiar with this series, I imagine you've got reason to be worried all over again. According to Heat Vision, Relativity has hired Marcus Nispel to direct Hack/Slash after having the project in »

Conan Director Marcus Nispel to Helm Adaptation of Hack/Slash

16 January 2012 10:00 AM, PST | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

Back in 2009 we brought you the news when Stephen Susco (The Posession) was hired to pen the live action big-screen adaptation of the Devil’s Due Publishing and Image Comics series Hack/Slash created by Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli.

Now, THR reports that Relativity Media has hired director Marcus Nispel (Conan the Barbarian) to helm the project about Cassie Hack, a woman who symbolizes the cliche of the lone girl who survives at the end of every horror movie. In this case, the girl not only survived but has become a killer of killers. Along with a hulking protector named Vlad, Hack travels across the country hunting slashers in the vein of Halloween‘s Michael Myers, Friday the 13th‘s Jason Voorhees and A Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Freddy Krueger.

While Stephen Susco was hired to pen the adaptation back in 2009, he was not the first to script the proposed project, »

Hack/Slash Gets Conan Of The Movies

14 January 2012 7:22 AM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

Hack/Slash is coming to the silver screen, and that Conan guy is getting him there.

Director Marcus Nispel, responsible for the 2011 remake of Conan The Barbarian (you saw that one, didn’t you?) has signed on to this latest adaptation of a big-time Image Comics title initially published by Devil’s Due. He replaces Fredrik Bond, who evidently thought better of the project.

Written by Martin Schenk, Stephen Susco, Justin Marks, Benjamin Magid and Todd Lincoln (thus far), the movies is scheduled for release next year.

Marcus Nispel to Direct ‘Hack/Slash’

13 January 2012 3:30 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The big-screen directorial career of Marcus Nispel has so far been rooted largely in remakes and reimaginings: he's made The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th and Conan the Barbarian. But not the original versions of any of those three stories. He also made the viking film Pathfinder, a loose remake of a Norwegian movie from 1987. Now he's the latest guy to step aboard the Hack/Slash adaptation train, which has been crawling slowly through the Hollywood landscape since 2008. Justin Marks was originally hired [1] to adapt the Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli comic Hack/Slash, which tells of Cassie Hack, a might-have-been victim of killers who survived and went forward in life as a killer of killers. Todd Lincoln was originally going to direct, but Swedish commercial director Fredrik Bond was set to direct [2] instead in 2009. The project languished, however. Late in 2009 Stephen Susco was hired [3] to write a new draft of the script, »

Marcus Nispel Will Helm Horror Comic Book Adaptation 'Hack/Slash'

13 January 2012 2:14 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Though the new take on Conan the Barbarian may not have been a success, director Marcus Nispel is on to his next project as Heat Vision has word that he will be at the helm of the adaptation of the horror action comic book Hack/Slash. Created by Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli, the story follows a woman who symbolizes the cliché of the lone girl who survives at the end of every horror movie. In this case, the girl not only survived but becomes a killer of killers traveling across the country hunting slashers like Halloween's Michael Myers, Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees and A Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Krueger. Sounds like quite an epic crossover of horror icons, and it's been a long time coming. Previously writer Justin Marks was supposed to take a crack at the script, but more recently Stephen Susco (The Grudge »

Marcus Nispel (Conan the Barbarian, Friday the 13th) has signed on to direct Hack/Slash for Relativity Media.

The project is based on the horror comic book series created by Tim Seeley and Stefano Casselli. The story centers on Cassie Hack, a young woman who epitomizes the surviving female character at the end of every horror movie. Now a trained killer, she travels the country, hunting down slasher-type serial killers, along with her protector, Vlad.

Hack/Slash has seen a number of screenwriters come and go, such as Todd Lincoln, Justin Marks, and Stephen Susco. It isn't known if Relativity will hire a new writer, or if they will work off an earlier draft.

Alexandra Milchan, Adrian Askarieh, and Daniel Alter will produce for Relativity. No production schedule was released.

Hack/Slash comes to theaters in 2013. The film is directed by Marcus Nispel. »
