‘Sense8’: 8 Reasons Why Netflix Must Make a Feature-Length Series Finale

17 June 2017 5:30 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

It’s been just over two weeks since fans of Netflix’s most odd, original and heartfelt TV show found out that the streaming giant would not be renewing “Sense8” for a third season. In those two weeks, many petitions have been sent and many protests raised, to the point where Netflix had to release a follow-up statement to fans explaining that it really did try to bring the show back, but “unfortunately we can’t.”

However, they should. They really, really should, at least in the form of a feature-length film, as we first saw suggested by redditor PrivateFrank, but echoing other shows that received a post-cancellation one-off conclusion following their release. Below are the reasons why it makes sense for Netflix to do it — for the fans, for the creators and for Netflix itself.

[Editor’s note: Mild spoilers for the second season of “Sense8” follow.]

Valiant Comic's Shadowman Movie Gets House Party Director

13 June 2017 4:27 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Marvel Cinematic Universe, you say? DC Extended Universe on your mind? Well, Valiant Entertainment is trying very hard to make sure that in the next few years the Valiant cinematic universe is just as much a part of the pop culture conversation. The latest step they have taken is hiring director Reginald Hudlin to helm their in-the-works movie adaptation of their cult favorite comic Shadowman.

As reported by Comicbook.com, Valiant is moving ahead with Shadowman in-house before taking the project out to studios. Bringing on Reginald Hudlin is a big step in that process. If you don't know the name, you're probably not alone. Hudlin has primarily been known as a TV director, but his movie Marshall is coming out later this year. And back in the early 90s, he did direct a little cult movie called House Party with iconic rappers Kid 'n Play. He also directed Eddie Murphy in Boomerang, »

Netflix Original Content Spending Causing Doubts About Growth

11 June 2017 2:53 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Variety is reporting on Netflix and how they spend their money. The article reports that with the intended growth of original content, Netflix has to spend more money up front for original content compared to licensed content, which Netflix can pay out over the course of the contract. With Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos stating that he's looking to raise the amount of original content Netflix offers to roughly half the available content they offer, you end up with a scenario where investors may be concerned.

As with any business, you have to spend money to make money. Netflix opened up a pandora's box when they transitioned from mailing DVD's to having an over the top streaming service. Once other companies saw the response from cord cutters around the world, companies like Hulu, Amazon Prime, and others came out with their own services directly competing with Netflix. Netflix Defends Sense8 Cancellation

10 June 2017 7:33 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for fans of Netflix’s Sense8. After the second season premiered to strong reviews and positive reception from viewers, the streaming service shockingly announced its cancellation.

A big-budget project such as this – coupled with its lengthy production process and costly VFX – meant that Lana and Lilly Wachowski’s series, one created in tandem with J. Michael Straczynski, really needed to hit the big leagues in order to be considered a success. And unfortunately, Sense8 never quite reached the dizzying heights of, say, Orange is the New Black or House of Cards, the result of which is a cancellation that many fans will no doubt consider to be premature.

As such, a petition sprung up that urged Netflix to change their mind, and while it garnered a tremendous amount of support, the company stood by their decision, taking to the show’s official »

Netflix rules out Sense8 return

10 June 2017 3:58 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Last week it was announced that Netflix had cancelled Sense8 after two seasons, prompting fans of the show to launch a petition to save the series. Unfortunately, these efforts have been in vain, as the streaming service has shared a message on the official Tumblr page to announce that the show will definitely not be returning.

“To our Sense8 family… We’ve seen the petitions. We’ve read the messages. We know you want to #RenewSense8, and we wish we could #BringBackSense8 for you. The reason we’ve taken so long to get back to you is because we’ve thought long and hard here at Netflix to try to make it work but unfortunately we can’t. Thank you for watching and hope you’ll stay close to your cluster around the world. #SensatesForever”

Sense8 Petition Fails To Sway Netflix

8 June 2017 9:28 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Only a month or so has passed since the debut of season 2 and already, Netflix has reached its unfortunate decision regarding the fate of Sense8. As you’ve no doubt heard, despite an overwhelmingly positive reaction to May’s premiere, the show’s second season will indeed be its last.

‘Sense8′ Fans Petition Netflix to Bring Back the Wachowskis’ Inclusive Sci Fi Hit

An online petition to for the return of “Sense8” has garnered 93,000 signatures since news hit yesterday that Netflix’s globe-spanning, LGBT-inclusive, science fiction thriller series would not get a third season.

The series, created by “Matrix” directors Lana and Lilly Wachowski along with J. Michael Straczynski, has been celebrated for its message of global interconnectedness, racially inclusive cast, and multiple LGBTQ characters — including a prominent transgender character whose storyline does not merely revolve around their being trans.

“The cancellation of ‘Sense 8’ – season 3 has been completely unexpected,” reads the Change.org petition. “We don’t know any reasons yet, however it’s quite strange that a show that has received such positive response from a wide and heterogeneous audience, gets cancelled.”

Netflix notoriously does not release streaming numbers for any of its content, leaving the reasons for the cancellation murky. »

Shamus Kelley Jun 2, 2017

It doesn't look like we're getting Sense8 season 3 after all. Netflix has cancelled the show...

Even if the cluster scored a major victory at the end of season two, the characters of Sense8 won't get to enjoy it. Netflix just cancelled the streaming drama after two seasons.

Cindy HollandNetflix's vice president of original content, said to The Hollywood Reporter that, “after 23 episodes, 16 cities, and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end."

She went on to thank the creators, cast, and fans for their love and support of the show.

"It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable. Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. »
