TV Review: ‘CrazySexyCool’ Looks Back With TLC

18 October 2013 7:15 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

A conventional biopic on almost every level, “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story” has so many soapy elements wrapped up in it that nobody really needed to vamp much to hard-sell them. Produced by a small army that includes surviving TLC members Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, the movie mixes in liberal dollops of music with the group’s up-from-nothing success story and struggles, both internally and against their record label and handlers. Few stories are more fraught with cliches than the rising actor/musician unprepared for the dizzying view from the top, but the project meshes neatly with VH1’s urban appeal.

Starting from the group’s origins in Atlanta (where the movie was shot, for once, not just for the tax credits), the project recounts how Tionne (Drew Sidora) and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes (Niatia “Lil’ Mama” Kirkland) began performing together, were discovered by and split with Pebbles »

From The Golden Age Of “In Da Hood” Movies - ‘Paid In Full’ Coming To Blu-Ray 9/24

29 August 2013 1:19 PM, PDT | ShadowAndAct | See recent ShadowAndAct news »

To be honest, I’m trying to remember if I saw this when it came out. Or is it just me?I’m talking about director Charles Stone III’s urban drama, Paid in Full, released by Miramax back in the fall of 2002. That was a busy year for Stone who also had, that very same year, the very popular and very successful Drumline. As for Paid In Full, it was released at the tail end of the onslaught of “in da hood” dramas, but I don’t recall the film making any sort of impact back then.Starring  Mekhi Phifer and Wood Harris the film is about “Ace (played by Harris)... a restless teenager who envies the high-rolling lifestyle of his drug-dealing friends. VH1 Release Trailer For ‘CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story’

26 July 2013 6:00 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Absolute genius or complete travesty? Either way Crazysexycool: The TLC Story will be released to the masses in October, so you’ll just have to deal with it. The film follows the popular (and rather amazing) 90s girl group as they go from their Atlanta beginnings to one of the biggest girl groups of all time.

The film stars Keke Palmer, Drew Sidora and Lil Mama as Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. The film is directed by Charles Stone III, but the credit that is causing the most buzz is the writer of the Oscar nominated Tina Turner bipic What’S Love Got To Do With It screenwriter Kate Lanier wrote the screenplay (clearly the people hyping up the film forgot she also wrote the Mariah Carey master piece Glitter)

We do have to say, if there was an Oscar for best transformation for »

Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, the two surviving members of TLC who also consulted on and exec produced the pic, announced they’ve re-signed with La Reid and Epic Records for the October 15 release of a new album of greatest hits and new songs, including the Ne-Yo penned “Meant To Be” which appears in the film. The TLC blitz continues as Lil Mama joins T-Boz and Chilli at this week’s Mixtape Festival performing in place of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, who died in a 2002 crash. »
