Megalyn Echikunwoke’s ‘Step Sisters’ Comedy Scheduled for March Release

Broad Green Pictures is giving a spring break release of March 31 to “Step Sisters,” the Megalyn Echikunwoke college dance comedy.

Step Sisters” also stars Eden Sher and Lyndon Smith with Matt McGorry, Naturi Naughton, Gage Golightly, Nia Jervier, Alessandra Torresani and Marque Richardson.

The story centers on an ambitious college senior (Echikunwoke) who wants to go to law school. She teaches stepping to a group white sorority girls who risk losing their charter.

Charles Stone III directed from a script by Chuck Hayward. Producers are Matt Alvarez, Lena Waithe and Benjamin Cory Jones.

Step Sisters,” formerly called “Ain’t No Half Stepping,” will open against Fox’s animated “Boss Baby,” Paramount’s “Ghost in the Shell” and Focus’ Jessica Chastain drama “The Zookeeper’s Wife.”

The 28th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival will present Mahershala Ali with the Breakthrough Performance Award on January 2 for his role in Moonlight at its annual Film Awards Gala. 

Ali earned Golden Globe and SAG nominations last week for the role and is the awards season frontrunner.

The actor, who also appears in Hidden Figures, was voted best supporting actor recently by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, New York Film Critics Circle and Broadcast Film Critics Association.

Broad Green Pictures has announced the cast of its comedy "Step Sisters," the Charles Stone-directed project which begins shooting next week in Atlanta.

Formerly titled "Ain't No Half Steppin'," the ensemble includes Megalyn Echikunwoke, Eden Sher, Lyndon Smith, Gage Golightly, Nia Jervier, Alessandra Torresani, Marque Richardson, Naturi Naughton and Matt McGorry.

Written by Chuck Hayward, the story centers on an ambitious black sorority girl (Echikunwoke) who, in order to get admitted to the law school of her dreams, agrees to cross cultural lines and teach the exclusive art of black Greek stepping to a band of party-obsessed white sorority girls whose charter is about to be revoked.

Matt Alvarez, Lena Waithe and Benjamin Cory Jones will produce with a 2017 release planned.

Broad Green Pictures has unveiled the ensemble cast of its dance comedy “Step Sisters,” formerly “Ain't No Half Steppin” with shooting starting June 1 in Atlanta.

The cast includes star Megalyn Echikunwoke (“90210,” “House of Lies”), Eden Sher (“The Middle”), Lyndon Smith (“Secret in Their Eyes,” “Parenthood”), Gage Golightly (“Red Oaks,” “Teen Wolf”), Nia Jervier (“Dear White People”), Alessandra Torresani (“The Big Bang Theory”), Marque Richardson (“Dear White People,” “All the Way”), Naturi Naughton (“Power,” “Notorious”) and Matt McGorry (“Orange Is the New Black,” “How to Get Away with Murder”).

Exclusive: Mister Smith inks key pre-sale for Ain’t No Half Steppin’.

Wild Bunch Germany has pre-bought rights to Broad Green Pictures comedy Ain’t No Half Steppin’ from Mister Smith Entertainment.

The deal was negotiated by Wild Bunch Germany’s MD, Marc Gabizon, and David Garrett, CEO of Mister Smith Entertainment, which launched the film at Efm to considerable interest.

Matt Alvarez (Straight Outta Compton), Lena Waithe (Dear White People) and Benjamin Cory Jones (Hand Of God) produce the story of an ambitious black sorority girl who, in order to get admitted to the law school of her dreams, agrees to cross culture lines and teach the exclusive art of black Greek stepping to a band of wild, Kardashian-obsessed white sorority girls.

Mister Smith Entertainment will launch international sales on the Broad Green Pictures’ dance comedy “Ain’t No Half Steppin'” at the Berlin Film Festival.

Production will begin in the spring. Broad Green announced in November that it had launching development on the dance comedy with “Drumline” helmer Charles Stone directing.

Producers are “Straight Outta Compton” producer Matt Alvarez, “Master of None” star Lena Waithe and Benjamin Cory Jones.

Stone will direct “Ain’t No Half Steppin'” from a script by Chuck Hayward, who currently writes for Cooper Barrett’s “Guide to Surviving Life” on Fox. The story centers on an ambitious black sorority girl who, in order to get admitted to the law school of her dreams, agrees to cross culture lines and teach the exclusive art of black Greek stepping to a band of white sorority girls whose charter is about to be revoked.

Broad Green Pictures producing with Straight Outta Compton’s Matt Alvarez.

Mister Smith Entertainment is to commence pre-sales on Charles Stone’s dance comedy Ain’t No Half Steppin’ at the European Film Market (Feb 11-19).

Produced by Broad Green Pictures, the film centres on a college girl who agrees to teach the art of ‘stepping’ – an African American percussive dance – to a group of sorority girls in order to improve her chances of getting into law school.

Broad Green Pictures announced the project in November as part of a production deal with Straight Outta Compton producer Matt Alvarez.

Alvarez will produce alongside Lena Waithe (Dear White People) and Benjamin Cory Jones (Hand Of God). Chuck Hayward (Beauty Shop) wrote the script. Choreographer Aakomon Jones (Pitch Perfect) will oversee the dance sequences.

Casting is underway, with principal photography scheduled to begin in April or May.

Broad Green Pictures will distribute the film theatrically in the Us.
