Watching the 'Jigsaw' Twist Unfold Is an Existential Experience

Watching the 'Jigsaw' Twist Unfold Is an Existential Experience
[Warning: This story contains spoilers for Jigsaw]

Jigsaw, the seventh sequel in the seemingly deathless Saw horror series, enters theaters with a lot of baggage. And, to be fair, co-directors Michael and Peter Spierig (Daybreakers, Predestination) and co-writers Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg (Piranha 3D, Sorority Row) do half-heartedly downplay some of the more tedious elements that have come to define the earlier Saw movies.

For starters, the "torture" aspect of the fatal death-trap "tests" that serial killer John "Jigsaw" Kramer (franchise staple Tobin Bell) puts his victims through is taken down several notches. Jigsaw features far fewer — and...

Jigsaw: explaining the ending of the new Saw film

Rob Leane Oct 29, 2017

Spoilers! If you’re scratching your chin after watching Jigsaw, here’s our spoiler-filled attempt to explain it...

This article contains spoilers for Jigsaw.

The trailers for Jigsaw presented Saw fans with a mystery: if Tobin Bell’s John Kramer is dead, how come there is a new batch of Jigsaw victims just now beginning to emerge? Various fan theories were available, but in the end, only one of them could be true.

This is your final warning: after this image of our spoiler squirrel, we’re going deep into Jigsaw spoilers...

To continue the franchise even further following John Kramer’s death, Jigsaw uses two classic storytelling devices from the Saw playbook: the new film teaches us that Jigsaw had one more secret apprentice, and it uses flashbacks to showcase yet another house of horrors concocted, built and inhabited by John prior to his death.

Jigsaw Review

It’s been six Billy-less Halloweens since Saw 3D closed the book on John Kramer’s legacy, but now – after executive consideration (aka “Who wants more money?”) – the Spierig Brothers look to scare-up familiar box office treats this October with Jigsaw. Seven straight years of torture-porn bloodletting (2004-2010), six years off – writers Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg should have Loads of sanguine grotesqueness stockpiled. That’s Lionsgate’s hook, right? You wouldn’t reboot an iconic horror franchise without good reason. Shock audiences, defy expectations and explore uncharted grounds. Prove that we need Kramer and company back in our lives! Don’t just toy with the same franchise devices Saw fans are used to – exactly like y’all did.

For this eighth go-around, five subjects find themselves trapped in a barn under “Jigsaw’s” control. Wait – didn’t Jigsaw die in Saw III? We saw it! That’s the mystery

First Saw 8 Clip Revives One of Jigsaw's Most Twisted Games

Jigsaw, the upcoming eighth movie in the very successful horror series, arrives in theaters just in time for Halloween after a very long absence. Now, Lionsgate has released the first clip from Jigsaw, which reveals a deadly and dangerous, yet familiar looking, game.

The clip is one that has been teased in the Jigsaw trailer and TV spots, which sees five strangers with buckets on their heads, and the clip is appropriately titled Bucket Heads, chained up in a room facing impending doom. The very familiar voice of John Kramer, aka Jigsaw, plays over the intercom and reveals that a tribute of blood must be made in order for the unlucky subjects to survive. Then, the chains connected to their buckets start pulling them

The Game Begins In Two New Jigsaw TV Spots

After taking a lengthy – and much needed – hiatus from cinemas, the Saw franchise is finally ready to once again shed gallons of blood with its latest installment, Jigsaw. But despite featuring a returning Tobin Bell who’s set to reprise the role of John Kramer in some capacity, all signs point toward a copycat at play.

Who that may be remains unknown, of course, but it’s important to note that neither Costas Mandylor nor Cary Elwes are set to feature here, so either there’s a new player in town after all, or this series is about to take an unexpected supernatural turn. Regardless, we can’t wait to see what the final twist will be and now, with the film set to arrive later this month, Lionsgate has begun to ramp up the promotion.

Seen above and below are two brand new TV spots for the horror sequel

Sterile New Posters For Jigsaw Raise Awareness For A Good Cause

For a horror series renown for its grotesque, toe-curling deaths, Lionsgate’s Saw series actually helps save a lot of lives.

Since the franchise first flickered into life in 2004, the Saw Blood Drive has been a time-honored tradition that encourages film fans to donate blood at various locations across the United States, and it’ll be returning next month to commemorate the release of Jigsaw.

Coming by way of Daybreakers duo Michael and Peter Spierig, Jigsaw is a horror sequel that raises some reasonable question marks over Saw: The Final Chapter‘s evocative, and seemingly conclusive title. Nevertheless, John Kramer is back – or, at least, his disciples are back – for a horror spiel involving sick, twisted traps and mutilated corpses. Wanna’ play a game?

As for the Jigsaw Blood Drive, those brave participants who donate blood for what is undoubtedly a great cause will receive a free ticket to bear

Final Jigsaw Poster Will Give You The Chills

Are you ready for Jigsaw?

It is, in essence, the eighth entry into Lionsgate’s time-honored Saw franchise, one that’s coming by way of directing duo Michael and Peter Spierig. Best known for their work on Daybreakers, the Spierig siblings are still relatively new when it comes to Hollywood’s horror scene, but when asked to describe how they approached the cult series, Michael Spierig hinted that Jigsaw is “Saw for 2017.” That means it’s safe to expect more nightmare fuel and wildly inventive demented traps than you can shake a pig’s mask at, and though Lionsgate’s franchise has fallen by the wayside in recent years, in 2017, Halloween belongs to Jigsaw. And long may he reign.

Mind you, given that Tobin Bell’s sick, twisted psychopath bit the bullet in Saw III, it looks certain that John Kramer has gathered together a band of disciples to continue

Tobin Bell interview: Jigsaw, the Saw movies and more

Rob Leane Oct 25, 2017

Ahead of Jigsaw’s release, we chatted to John Kramer actor Tobin Bell about his journey with the franchise...

Warning: this interview contains spoilers for several Saw films, and one for Four Corners, but it’s spoiler-free with regards to Jigsaw.

The Saw franchise began, back in 2004, with Tobin Bell’s John Kramer – aka The Jigsaw Killer - playing dead on the floor of a grimy bathroom. Leigh Whannell and James Wan’s micro-budget horror/thriller spawned six blood-spattered sequels, birthing a franchise that became synonymous with Halloween cinema trips.

But then, in 2010, came Saw 3D. The seventh film in the torture-stuffed series presented itself as The Final Chapter, going full circle - revisiting the bathroom from Saw - and tying up all the loose ends of John’s legacy. John died in Saw III and was autopsied in Saw IV, and then Saw 3D presented a
