Richard Stilgoe was born on March 28, 1943 in Camberley, Surrey, England as Richard Henry Simpson Stilgoe.

Trivia (3)

Has been nominated for Broadway's Tony Award three times: in 1987 as Best Score, his lyrics to Andrew Lloyd Webber's music, for "Starlight Express;" and twice in 1988, as Best Book (Musical), again with Webber, and as Best Score, with Webber as well as co-lyricist Charles Hart, for "The Phantom of the Opera."
He was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) and DL before being awarded Knight Bachelor of the Order of the British Empire in the 2012 Queen's Birthday Honours List for his charitable services to the Alchemy Foundation. He is a Philanthropist.
