Oscars poll: Who is the greatest host of the past 25 years? Jimmy Kimmel, Ellen DeGeneres, Billy Crystal or … ??
As one of his first decisions as the new producer of the Academy Awards broadcast, Gil Cates hired comedian and actor Billy Crystal as the 1990 ceremony host. Crystal had a box office smash the previous year with “When Harry Met Sally” and had sort of auditioned for the job with enthusiastically well-received appearances on previous Oscars as a presenter. He brought a mix of enthusiasm, rat-a-tat jokes, musical opening numbers and cleverly filmed pieces over his nine times as emcee.

Crystal followed in the tradition of two of the best hosts in Oscars history — Bob Hope and Johnny Carson. He is also the only host of the past three decades to take the reigns for two consecutive ceremonies before Jimmy Kimmel at last year’s event and the one coming up next on

Questlove Remembers His ‘Surreal’ Dinner With O.J. Simpson

On this week’s installment of his Pandora podcast “Questlove Supreme,” Roots drummer and “Late Show” bandleader Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and his crew talk with “Daily Show” veteran and “Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver, who speaks at length about the challenges of putting together topical comedy, about his first-ever trip to a Walmart and why it was his most profound cultural clash in coming to America, and perhaps most entertainingly, of how he ended up hosting “The Daily Show” for several weeks in 2013 when Jon Stewart went on hiatus to make the film “Rosewater.”

“It was terrifying,” Oliver recalled. “Because he called me and said, ‘I’ve got that movie I’ve been working on. I’m going to direct it.’ So I was kind of, ‘Oh, that’s nice’ — I didn’t see what was coming. I said, ‘Well, that’s an odd thing, to decide to call me– how many people are you calling

2018 WGA Awards predictions: ‘Saturday Night Live’ will beat itself (sort of) for back-to-back victories

2018 WGA Awards predictions: ‘Saturday Night Live’ will beat itself (sort of) for back-to-back victories
What happens when “Saturday Night Live” goes up against “SNL Weekend Update”? At the Writers Guild Awards, only one can prevail and that will be the mothership series, according to our latest combined odds. With 2/13 odds in the variety sketch series race, “SNL” is ahead of the three-week summer edition of “Weekend Update,” which trails with 14/1 odds, to take home the trophy Sunday.

Both programs share most of the same writers, so a win by either will be a win for almost everyone on the “SNL” writing team. This would be the second straight WGA Award for “SNL” in this category, which was created two years ago after the WGA separated the former variety series category into variety sketch series and variety talk series. “Inside Amy Schumer” won the inaugural variety sketch award.

‘2 Dope Queens’ Review: All Hail Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson, the Future of Comedy
Comedians work well in pairs: Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, Nichols and May. But it’s high time for a new dynamic duo, and they call themselves “2 Dope Queens.” Out of a smash hit podcast and monthly live show in Brooklyn, stand-up comedians Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson fashioned their very own four-part HBO series, which will air every Friday in February. If HBO needs to use Black History Month as a reason to program these fierce talents, we’re not complaining. But after a few hours with these two, you might find yourself wishing every month was Black History Month.

Piers Morgan Rips Trevor Noah After ‘Unf—able Colin Firth’ Dig
Someone pass Trevor Noah some ointment because Piers Morgan just laid a sick burn on him. British media personality Morgan tore into “Daily Show” host Noah after Noah characterized him as an “unf—able Colin Firth,’ suggesting that Noah is inferior to his “Daily Show” predecessor, Jon Stewart. Morgan made his assessment in response to Noah’s segment on Morgan’s recent interview with President Donald Trump, declaring, “Now, Piers Morgan is not just an unf—able Colin Firth,” Noah said. “He’s also one of the winners of ‘The Celebrity Apprentice,’ so his sit-down with Trump was actually a reunion.” Also Read: Stephen Colbert 'Interviews' Trump...

Exclusive Interview – Actress Elizabeth Ho talks about Netflix show Disjointed and working with Kathy Bates

Red Stewart chats with Disjointed star Elizabeth Ho

Elizabeth Ho is an American actress who has been working in the industry since the mid-2000s. She studied acting at the University of Southern California, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in theater, all while working numerous blue collar jobs on the side. Her breakthrough came with the Netflix original show Disjointed, which she currently stars in as Jenny. Flickering Myth managed to get an interview with her, and I in turn had the privilege to conduct it.

Ms. Ho, who goes by Liz, has worked on several different sets over the course of her career, from cable network shows to television movies. I began by asking her how different working on a Netflix show is compared to those other venues.

“I think it really hit me when Kathy Bates said the word ‘f*ck’ on set,” she answered with a laugh.

HBO’s award-winning political comedy series Last Week Tonight with John Oliver will return to the network soon for a new year of biting humor. When Oliver first debuted as a correspondent on The Daily Show, few would have likely foreseen just how big a name in the talk show world he would eventually become in his own right. While Oliver was a fan favorite during his years on Tds, it wasn’t until former host Jon Stewart decided to direct a movie that the British comic really got a chance to prove his worth.
