Psych Review: A Crazy Grace

28 March 2012 10:28 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Plum Cake, missing earlobes, crazed fans and even crazier ex-lovers. Indeed, Psych delivered another quirky and quotable episode with "Autopsy Turvy."

This week's installment was a fusion of creative energies both in front of and behind the camera. Andy Berman, who co-wrote this week's twists and turns with James Roday, made an appearance as a Thai waiter with a distinct and "unoffensive" accent. Anyone notice that Andy's been on the show twice now, each time as a different person?!

Who could forget to mention the epic-ness taking place behind the camera as Jennifer Lynch (daughter of Twin Peaks creator David Lynch) made her Psych debut. It had several hallmarks reminiscent of her father's rather sinister and compelling style, the 1930's dance hall, the crazy murder fan and even crazier mortician who wanted to take Woody's job. This episode definitely had me thinking of Twin Peaks.

Of course, the guest stars »

'Psych': Dule Hill on the end of season 6, and his hopes for a 'West Wing' episode!

28 March 2012 4:59 PM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

The end of Psych’s sixth season is upon us (only three episodes to go!), but what’s in store promises to be just as fun — if not more — than what fans have already been treated to this season, according to star Dulé Hill, who stopped by EW’s offices this week to chat.

The last stretch of fun kicks off tonight with an episode that features a guest spot from French Stewart (3rd Rock from the Sun) and cameo from Psych writer (and fan fave) Andy Berman. “What Andy Berman does is pure genius,” Hill says, adding in a strategically coy manner, »

'Psych' sneak peek: 'Autopsy Turvy' sees Woody the coroner in trouble

26 March 2012 9:51 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"Psych" is wrapping up its sixth season with just three more new episodes until it returns in the fall of 2012 to kick off Season 7. "Autopsy Turvy" is the next episode and features - who else? - Woody the coroner (Kurt Fuller).

It isn't all fun and games for Woody, though. Shawn and Gus have to scramble to find out a body's cause of death after Woody is in danger of being fired for making a mistake. Woody apparently mistook a bus crash victim as an accident when it may not have been. Plus, an old flame named Grace is back in Woody's life. Woo woo.

And in a fun subplot, French Stewart guest-stars as a man obsessed with murder and also obsessed with Shawn and Gus. Fun stuff. "Psych" airs Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. Et/Pt on USA.

TV Review: Community 3.12 ‘Contemporary Impressionists’

24 March 2012 9:37 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

The study group plays dress-up this week as they have to impersonate celebrities at a Bar Mitzvah to pay off Abed’s debt, but Jeff’s ego might not be able to handle it. The Chang also rises in another strong episode of Community.

The group greet each other with a ‘Happy New Year’ as the episode begins, meaning last week’s episode was probably scheduled for a later date. The shuffling did wonders for the ratings however, which were the highest since season 2’s ‘Epidemiology’. Much of that credit can be put down to the raging fandom online. Britta announces she’s finally going to be able to legitimately diagnose someone as part of her Human Psychology class. We’re then introduced to a different sort of Jeff Winger, this time with a Zen-like calm. His new shrink has diagnosed him with medication to reduce his anxiety, »

Your Weekly Community Ratings Update: They’re Down

23 March 2012 9:15 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

This is not so cool-cool-cool: After a strong return last week, and despite the presence of Very Special Guest Star French Stewart, Community saw its ratings drop by about 20 percent last night. Per preliminary Nielsen numbers, Thursday's half-hour averaged about 3.9 million viewers (down from 5 million last week) and a 1.7 rating with adults under 50 (vs. a 2.2 for the return). On the positive tip, Community was NBC's No. 1 show Thursday in the key demo last night (30 Rock fell to a 1.5 rating), and the show did beat American Idol among men under 35. Also, Thursday's number remained a tick higher than the show's fall average. The real test for Community will come next week, when the big, bad Big Bang Theory returns to CBS. Meanwhile, a quick note about Fox's Touch: The Keifer Sutherland drama did well in its official premiere, drawing just under »

Community: “Contemporary Impressionists” – Recap

23 March 2012 8:36 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

“Contemporary Impressionists” was an example of Community getting a little too carried away with itself. It was a good episode, featuring a very real storyline wrapped in a layer of weird that ended in a surprisingly dark way, even by Community’s standards. But there came a point where it’s own wackiness eclipsed everything else. In the really great episodes, Community has found ways to balance the crazy side with the emotional side, but here the scales were shifting back and forth. When you begin favoring one side over the other; when you see them standing alone instead of together, you begin to notice which is the weaker one. As it turned out, the silly, over-the-top side is the flimsiest side of Community. The emotional core is much stronger and can hold up all on its own. The downside is: nobody wants to watch a comedy that makes you feel sad. »

Community 3.12 "Contemporary Impressionists" Recap

Community 3.12 "Contemporary Impressionists" Recap

In a perfect world, this episode of Community would have been the first episode back from winter hiatus. Instead, on a balmy spring night, we’re sitting around in our houses while the study group talks about their new year, and…ah, well. No complaints, right? I didn’t think so.

Turns out that a lot of stuff went on with the Greendale crew over break. Pierce digitized his entire movie collection, Britta got excited for her new psychology courses, and Jeff saw a new shrink – one that put him on anti-anxiety pills. Britta is intensely against this new development, as she feels keeping Jeff on the pills will cause him to become a hyper narcissist (essentially, Jeff needs his ego in order to keep himself from going crazy.) For once in her life, I think Britta’s actually in the right here (and it turns out, »

Community Review: Non-Reality Check

22 March 2012 6:30 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Troy learned a valuable lesson on Community this week: it's not always a good thing to act like a magical elf-like man.

Indeed, "Contemporary Impressionists" stood in stark contrast to last week's return episode of this NBC sitcom. On "Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts," Troy couldn't bear the notion of Abed as anything but an Inspector Spacetime-loving, alternate reality-living pal, someone perfectly content to exist in his own universe, consequences and the reactions of others be damned.

Here, though, after initially castigating his friends for suggesting it, Troy finally realized there's a difference between life inside and outside the Dreamatorium - and that difference sometimes looks an awful lot like French Stewart and threatens to break your legs.

It's simply been accepted for so long that Abed's use of pop culture quips and references is a harmless, humorous coping mechanism for his pained childhood, but there clearly are consequences »

Mayans Were Right as ABC Family Announces Home Alone 5: Alone In The Dark

15 March 2012 1:40 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Let's be honest, the Home Alone franchise has been dead ever since Alex D. Linz tried to sit in for Macaulay Culkin as an all new character defending his house against criminals in Home Alone 3. A young Scarlett Johansson even appears in that film, but she probably wants to forget that as much as we do. Since then another terrible sequel with a new young actor bringing Kevin McCallister back into the mix and new burglars featuring French Stewart, but nobody has really been paying attention. Now, on the brink of the predicted end of the world, ABC Family has announced the apocalyptic sounding sequel Home Alone 5: Alone in the Dark.  Hit the jump for more. Going back to the Christmas feel of the original two films (both of which are solid family films that should be watched every holiday season), this one, which will premiere during the cable network's 25 Days of Christmas, »

Community Returns With Blanket Fort Battles, French Stewart and the Highest Stakes Ever!

15 March 2012 11:06 AM, PDT | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Chang to the world, NBC’s Community finally resumes its interrupted third season tonight at 8/7c! And while TVLine certainly hasn’t skimped on the scoop during the quirky comedy’s hiatus, we have a few more spoilerly snippets to share before Greendale re-opens its doors.

Fort Greendale | Troy and Abed in a bat-tle! As we first reported, a second blanket fort episode is on the way, and this one finds Community‘s most beloved twosome at odds. “We have a little riff between Troy and Abed — which is eventually resolved,” Danny Pudi tells TVLine. “We have a battle [over a new fort] and people have to take sides. »

Joel McHale: I Really Believe in 'Community'

15 March 2012 7:02 AM, PDT | TheInsider.com | See recent The Insider news »

Our world looked a lot like The Darkest Timeline after Community was pulled from NBC's schedule. But throughout the almost four-month ordeal, Joel McHale and the cast of Community were continually amazed by fan-support (from flash mobs to avatar-goateeing), which is just one of the reasons why they are thrilled the show returns to Thursdays at 8 p.m. tonight!

To further promote Greendale classes being back in session, Joel rang up TheInsider.com for a chat about life during hiatus, what fans can expect from these upcoming episodes and how he's feeling about a season four!

Insider.com: Congrats on the return of Community -- did it come about sooner or later than you were expecting?

Joel McHale: It was sooner than I thought. I think some people thought we were never coming back, but [NBC entertainment chairman] Bob Greenblatt really reassured me that we would be. It was sooner than April, which is what »

TV Review: USA’s Hit ‘Psych’ Returns in Predictable Fashion

29 February 2012 8:06 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – A consistent performer like “Psych” nearly defies the very concept of TV reviews. Want a full review here? “Have you seen “Psych” before? Did you like it? Then you’ll like the mid-season premiere.” That’s about it. With nearly six seasons done, it’s hard to believe that anyone hasn’t decided yet whether or not they like one of basic cable’s biggest hits of the last decade. And, as my grandpa says, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

TV Rating: 3.5/5.0

So why bother? Well, I think all people look for when a show like “Psych” returns is that dreaded phrase — “jumping the shark.” Is this it? The time when my favorite show turns into junk? The time when it goes from early “Entourage” to late “Entourage”? Here’s another quick review — nope. If you liked “Psych” before, I find it Impossible to believe »

Allen Gregory: Officially Cancelled, No Season Two

8 January 2012 3:21 PM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Allen Gregory may have a grandiose opinion of himself but his animated series just couldn't cut it. The low-rated TV series has been officially cancelled.

At the Fox portion of the TCA Winter Press Tour, Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly confirmed what we'd long suspected. He said simply, "We will not be making any more Allen Gregory." The network will however continue to work with the show's star and co-creator, Jonah Hill, noting that he already has a live-action comedy in the works with the network.

Featuring the voices of Hill, French Stewart, Nat Faxon, Joy Osmanski, Christina Puccelli, Jake Johnson and Renee Taylor, Allen Gregory debuted at the end of October to soft ratings. Viewership dropped as the weeks progressed and the animated sitcom quickly became one of the lowest-rated scripted series on Fox.

The network had initially ordered just »
