His primary influences were Grimms' Fairy Tales; Charlie Chaplin movies; Hansel and Gretel; the Katzenjammer Kids; and Pinnochio.
Attended P.S. 53 in The Bronx, New York.
Began his career at 23, as a cartoonist for Life Magazine.

I think I feel a little differently than other people do. For some reason I've never felt grown up.
I've always despised old people. I got angry at my father when he began to show signs of age.
