John Steakley was born on July 26, 1951 in Cleburne, Texas, USA. He was an actor and writer, known for Vampires (1998), Don't Hang Up (1974) and Scary Texas Movie (1997). He was married to Nannette Roshell Felter and Lori Jo Jones. He died on November 27, 2010 in McKinney, Texas, USA.
Published only two novels in his lifetime, Armor (1984) and Vampire$ (1990). He was working on a sequel to Armor, tentatively titled Armor 2, at the time of his death.
His novel was the basis for the John Carpenter film "Vampires."
According to Steakley, the film contained much of his dialogue and none
of his plot.
Just before production of "Vampires" was to begin, the studio cut the
budget by 2/3.

He was a graduate of Southern Methodist University.
