- Stanev is one of Bulgaria's best known writers of short stories, especially animal stories. He studied financial sciences and economy and was a passionate hunter. Among his most popular stories is Valtchi Nochti (Wolves Nights). - Emilian Stanev (his real name is Nikola Stoyanov Stanev) was born on February 28, 1907 in Tarnovo, Bulgaria. In 1922, his family moved to the city Elena. He graduated high school in Vratsa, then he studied painting in Sofia, then - the finance and credit at the Free University in Sofia. In 1932-1944, he was a clerk in the Sofia municipality, and in 1945 - the manager of hunting farm in the village Bukovec, region Lovech, Bulgaria. He was a head of "Fiction" in the newspaper "Literary Front" (1950-1955). He began to publish in 1931. He has collaborated in the magazines "Fate," "Covenants," "Zlatorog", "Art and Criticism," "Crown", "Bulgarian language" and others. He wrote animal's stories, social and moral-philosophical fiction, historical novels and novellas. Among his most important books are "Tempting glitters" (1938), "Wolf Nights" (1943), "Workdays and Holidays" (1945), "Wild Bird" (1946), "In a Quiet Evening" (1948), " The Peach Thief "(1948)," Ivan Kondarev "(1958-1964)," The Legend of Sybil, the Prince of Preslav "(1968)," Antichrist "(1970)," The Tarnovo's Queen "(1974). He is the author of books for children and adolescents: "In the Forests and Waters" (1943), "Gluttony Bear" (1944), "Tale of a Forest" (1948), "When the Frost is Melting" (1950), "Chernishka" (1950) . He is a Winner of National Award "Yordan Yovkov" for 1975; in 1977 he was awarded with the title " Hero of Socialist Labor ", "marking the 70th anniversary of his birth and his great contribution to Bulgarian literature."
