'Parenthood' 'Promises' first look: Carl asks Sarah out to a charity event

30 December 2013 6:30 AM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"Parenthood" returns Thursday (Jan. 2) with "Promises," which sees Ed (guest star David Denman) confronting Julia about their kiss, causing Joel to step in and confront Ed, and Zeek making a new friend with Camille still overseas. Meanwhile, Sarah and Carl (guest star Josh Stamberg) set up a pseudo-date.

In this clip -- an exclusive first look on Zap2it -- Carl swings by Sarah's apartment to ask her to be his "plus one" for a charity event he has to attend. She has made it abundantly clear they aren't sleeping together, so he insists it's just that he wants an intelligent woman who can make witty cocktail banter.

Mmm hmm. What do you think, "Parenthood" fans? Is Sarah going to end up back with Hank? Or is Carl perhaps the new man for her?

"Parenthood" airs Thursday nights at 10 p.m. Et/Pt on NBC. »

TV on Tap: Lisa Kudrow Returns to “Web Therapy”, Casey Wilson and Adam Pally Get “Offensive”

After months of waiting for a decision on the drama’s fate, ABC Family has cancelled Bunheads. I’m disappointed but at least now there’s no chance of the show wearing out its welcome. On the bright side, Deadline says this means the channel is free to go ahead and renew its freshmen series Twisted and The Fosters.

Something something, last chance for a Waiting for Godot pun.

After announcing guest roles for James Franco and Adam Pally, TV Guide reports that The Mindy Project has booked Kris Humphries for a guest-spot. I guess they can’t all be great news.

Over at The New Yorker, Emily Nussbaum defends the legacy of Sex and the City. The movies and that series finale may have worked to make us forget, but at its peak, it was a show that helped HBO find its voice and challenged the static romantic comedy. »

Drop Dead Diva Season 5: Cast Dishes on Changes Afoot

23 June 2013 7:00 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

With a second lease on life after its cancellation was reversed, Drop Dead Diva is back tonight for a fifth season and there are changes afoot, both in the cast and where we find our returning characters.

During a recent visit to the show’s set in Atlanta, I grabbed some time with the cast to get the scoop on what we’ll see this season and how it feels to still be on the air.

Brooke Elliott: We pick up with Jane in a frazzled state and for good reason. “Jane is incredibly frightened that Owen is dead or missing,” Elliott said since Owen had a heart attack after seeing Jane kiss Grayson. But that’s not all since a certain soul decided to return at the end of last season. “[Jane] also doesn’t know if Old Jane’s soul is in Owen’s body…if she’s not in Owen’s body, »

When Drop Dead Diva Season 5 kicks off on June 23, one familiar face will be missing:

The casting decision was made for budgetary reasons.

Natalie Hall (Pretty Little Liars), meanwhile, will guest star on two episodes, though details on her role are being kept quiet.

Veteran actors John Ratzenberger and Sandra Bernhard will also stop by the fun Lifetime series. »

The diva has lost her boss.

Drop Dead Diva regular Josh Stamberg, who plays law-firm partner Jay Parker, won’t be returning to the Lifetime series, The Wrap reports.

The actor’s exit is the result of budget cuts that came with the surprise fifth season renewal; other belt-tightening measures include reducing production to seven days per episode and doing less on-location filming.

However, creator Josh Berman tells the site, “Viewers will never notice the change in our budget, and the show has never looked better.”
