In honor of Ravenous finally being released on Blu-Ray from those magnificent madmen at Scream Factory, I thought I’d conjure up some words about one of the great, underrated chillers of the 90’s. It’s a film I’ve deemed a personal favorite amongst mixed fans of film. I’ll recommend it without batting an eye. It’s essential viewing for horror fans, period. One of the key elements to understanding why I love Ravenous, you have to understand the background of my film going history that brought me to it.

For a great period in the 90’s, I saw many films in theaters with my uncle, and when I say many, I’d say it would be somewhere in the neighborhood of a metric ton. »

Gorge Down on Cult Smash Ravenous Coming to Bluray

2 May 2014 12:12 PM, PDT | Horror News | See recent Horror News news »

Inspired by twisted tales of cannibalistic survival like the real-life Donner Party, cult terror feature Ravenous graphically depicts a twist on an old cliché: You are who you eat. Directed by the late Antonia Bird (Priest), this unnerving cult thriller stars Guy Pearce (Iron Man 3, Prometheus), Robert Carlyle (TV’s Once Upon A Time), Jeremy Davies (Lost, Saving Private Ryan), Jeffrey Jones (Deadwood, Sleepy Hollow), John Spencer (The West Wing), Stephen Spinella (Milk, Royal … Continue reading →

The West Wing “Pilot”

Written by Aaron Sorkin

Directed by Thomas Schlamme

Originally aired September 22nd 1999 on NBC

It’s hard to argue that The West Wing isn’t Aaron Sorkin’s most successful television show. It ran for eight seasons (five more than his second longest series), outlasting even Sorkin himself (who left after the fourth season), on network TV at a time when the bar for ratings success was much higher than it is now. It racked up 26 Emmy wins in that time, including four consecutive Outstanding Drama Series awards from 2000-2003. And it arguably represents the last great drama of the pre-Sopranos era (even though it ran concurrently with The Sopranos for most of its run). Most importantly, in terms of its success, its setting proved the perfect vehicle for Sorkin’s writing. He consistently fills his shows with smart people, extremely dedicated to their jobs, who »

Watch 'House of Cards' 'West Wing' opening credits treatment

4 March 2014 10:00 AM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

First there was the "Full House of Cards" mash-up you never knew you wanted, then the brilliant (and on-the-nose) "Walking Dead" version of the "House of Cards" opening credits.

Now a creative YouTuber named Wayne Wolfe has made a "West Wing" version of the "House of Cards" opener (above), which is not only delightful because there could not be two politically themed shows that are more different, but also because Wolfe takes care to make some funny matchups based on where he puts the "HoC" actors in the credits.

Derek Cecil is Rob Lowe, which is totally appropriate because Seth Grayson is like the evil Sam Seaborn. Robin Wright is Stockard Channing (natch), and Mahershala Ali is Dule Hill, which is a little ... obvious since their characters actually occupy very different roles on their respective shows.

Nathan Darrow would have made a better Hill, but he's Janel Moloney, which is pretty funny, »
