"Indefatigable Yiddish theater queen Zypora Spaisman, 85, who kept New York's famed Folksbiene Yiddish Theatre alive for 42 years and today heads the competing Yiddish Public Theater, can't recall how many babies she's delivered. She started as a midwife back in her native Poland, a sideline she kept up during her early acting career on New York's Lower East Side." (from NY Post 1-2-2001-- her birthday, ironically).
