‘WWE Christmas Collection’ DVD Review

16 November 2015 6:20 AM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

If you’re a wrestling fan you’ll know just how much the WWE loves Christmas. Seasonal shows have been a staple of their television output for as long as I can remember going as far back as Captain Lou Albano reading Christmas stories on WWE programming; through the Attitude era, where the fun of Xmas was juxaposed with the more hardcore on-screen action; to more recent episodes of Raw and the likes of the “Good Santa vs. Bad Santa” match between Mark Henry and Damien Sandow in 2013.

The WWE Christmas Collection sees Christmas come early to the WWE universe as “The Hardcore Legend” Mick Foley and his daughter Noelle (side note: I’m sure Foley’s daughter takes after her mothers side of ther family…) as they go on a quest to find Santa Claus, all the while reminiscing about classic WWE moments and matches from Christmas’ past. 12 Times WWE Tried To Convince You Wrestlers Were Related

23 October 2015 1:35 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

What’s the one thing that every single member of the WWE Universe has in common? Family. How have WWE ensured they garner a reaction from their Universe in a storyline more times than they would care to mention? Have a family at the centre of any commotion!

WWE is all about connecting with its Universe, and one of the easiest ways to do this is to play the family card; calling on those everyday scenarios that happen in every household and ramping them up to 11.

This is a tactic that has been used quite literally since the beginning of time and doesn’t seem to be letting up. After all, family storylines are often the most compelling inside the ring due to the backstories you can create; just look at The Undertaker and Kane as an example of this happening…

Here are 12 examples of when WWE tricked »

WCW/Ecw Alliance – Where Are They Now?

21 October 2015 2:25 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Can you believe it’s been nearly fifteen years since the Invasion angle? Fifteen years since Lance Storm showed up on Raw and blasted Perry Saturn with a superkick. Fifteen years since Ecw and WCW joined forces to try and take down Vince McMahon and the WWE. Fifteen years since WWE screwed up the biggest money angle in wrestling history…

How time flies, huh? A lot has happened in WWE in that time, obviously, and the wrestling landscape looks a lot different today. A lot had also happened to those that made up the WCW and Ecw Alliance. Made up of guys and gals from the recently closed companies (although a lot of them had been under WWE contract for some time), the invaders had very different fortunes when it came time for the angle to end – some didn’t even make it that far.

The Women of ‘The Final Girls’ Talk Unique Mother-Daughter Relationship and Metanarratives

15 October 2015 8:10 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Out in limited release and available on VOD is the horror comedy with a fantasy twist, The Final Girls. From director Todd Strauss-Schulson (A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas), the film follows young Max (Taissa Farmiga) a year after her scream-queen mother (Malin Akerman) dies. When her cinephile friend invites her out to a celebratory screening of the film she was most famous for, Max and her group of friends are transported to the actual reality of the 80s horror slasher.  Once there the group must find a way to survive the relentless, murdering Billy. That’s a lot of setup and yet the The Final Girls manages to be quite smooth and smart in the way things are laid out. While the film mostly plays for laughs instead of horror, there are some more interesting aspects working at the core of the film when it comes to Max and her »

WWE 2K16 Final Roster Reveal – Who’s Made The Cut?

14 September 2015 9:40 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Ing, 2K

What has been billed as the final batch of Superstars for WWE 2K16 has been confirmed this afternoon.

Here are the names in full: Bray Wyatt, Mikey Whipwreck, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Big E), Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady, Stunning Steve Austin, Superstar Steve Austin, Rusev, American Bad Ass Undertaker, Baron Corbin, Brian Pillman, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Konnor, Viktor, Mark Henry, Ministry Undertaker, Ricky Steamboat, Savio Vega, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, Sting ’99, Sting Blonde and finally the two Terminator renders.

The new names show how in-depth the Stone Cold mode will be. It looks like we’re going to be travelling right through his days as a Hollywood Blonde with Brian Pillman and that feud with Ricky Steamboat, stopping off for a cup of coffee in Ecw to feud with Mikey Whipwreck (and maybe Sandman?), and then going through his main run in WWE, including the 2001 Royal Rumble. »

WWE 2K16: New Video Shows D’Lo Brown’s ‘Lo Down’

11 September 2015 11:48 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The latest video from 2K Dev shows former European Champion D’Lo Brown hitting his signature Frog Splash, the Lo Down, on Billy Gunn in WWE 2K16.

There are three main things to take away from the short clip. First and foremost is the utter beauty of the splash. It’s pitch perfect and maybe even better than the real life version of Brown did it back in the day, and he did it very, very well.

The second thing was Billy’s attire. This seems to be the 2001’s ‘The One’ Billy Gunn with darker hair and plain tights, as opposed to the Badd Ass version we saw dominate the tag team scene in the company with Road Dogg. Everyone wanted to see the latter, right?

The third thing to notice is the lack of D’Lo’s head wobble? What a tease. Surely this is the sort »

WWF Raw from 20 Years Ago Today – Shawn Michaels vs. Psycho Sid, Razor Ramon vs. British Bulldog, Isaac Yankem Dds and more

Summerslam is behind us and we’re just two weeks away from In Your House, and it’s a show that features Shawn Michaels defending the Intercontinental Championship against Psycho Sid and Razor Ramon taking on British Bulldog – it’s Raw from 20 Years Ago Today…

Episode 126 – 11/09/1995

The show opens with a very excited Vince McMahon covering the Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon ladder match from Summerslam, as well as British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith turning on Diesel from three weeks ago on Raw.

1. Razor Ramon vs. British Bulldog

They showed a very bizarre confrontation between Razor and Dean Douglas in an inset video. As per usual, Vince and Jerry Lawler are talking over each other and just won’t shut up. Vince sounds like he is coked out of his mind. Razor throws one of his toothpicks at Jim Cornette who is on the outside for Bulldog. This was a pretty basic, »

‘Signature Sounds: The Music of WWE’ Review

9 September 2015 12:21 PM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Music has been integral in WWE history, especially anthems for all the greatest WWE Superstars. Since Sgt. Slaughter first made his entrance to the Marine Corp hymn in the early 80s, music themes have become synonymous with the WWE Superstars – who doesn’t remember Hulk Hogan’s “Real American” theme? Or the Ultimate Warrior’s high-energy entrance music? Even years after the stars retire, the songs live on.

Just hearing the first few notes brings the crowd to their feet. They are the songs that let the WWE Universe know that business truly is about to pick up. Now, this new DVD gets fans behind the music to learn the inside story behind the timeless anthems of WWE and its Superstars.

Featuring interviews with the man behind the music, Jim Johnston, who composes all WWE music - Signature Sounds: The Music of WWE counts down the 25 most memorable tracks from the WWE’s history. »

10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Road Dogg

7 August 2015 3:47 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

As the ‘Road Dogg’ Jesse James, the one-time Brian Armstrong carved a legacy for himself in WWE history. The man’s real name is actually Brian James, but he’s part of the well-known Armstrong wrestling family. His father, Bob wrestled with the surname, so all 4 of his sons, Brian, Brad, Steve and Scott took on the moniker also. It wasn’t until Road Dogg had been in the industry for over a decade that he got his first major run.

Making his then-wwf debut in 1994 as ‘The Roadie’, the man worked alongside Jeff Jarrett. Acting largely as a manager, he was something also allowed to show what he could do inside the ring. That said, it would be another few years before the Road Dogg character was created. That particular persona gave the wrestler more stature, and he became part of D-Generation X.

WWE 2K16 Full Roster Leaked

2K Games

A new video posted by IGN has apparently revealed the (almost) full roster for WWE 2K16.

It is common knowledge now that the new game will have a bumper roster of 120 unique characters, but the list below falls a few short of that while Hulk Hogan is still a part of it. The Hulkster has been removed from the game altogether for reasons that you don’t need me to tell you about.

There are a number of shocking inclusions, including Superstars down the pecking order in Nxt and Attitude Era stars who had very little to do with cover star Stone Cold Steve Austin. While there are also a number of notable exclusions, including the Legion of Doom, who seemed to be nailed on for a place in the new title after leaked video footage appeared to show Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler and Jim Ross recording commentary »

WWE Trying To Manipulate Tough Enough Voting?

1 August 2015 11:11 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE released a video this week of Tough Enough trainer Billy Gunn yelling at one of the contestants for about two minutes and thirty seconds. The contestant he yelled at was the 18 year old Zamariah “Zz” Loupe, who has been able to avoid eliminations week after week due to his strong personality, even though physically he’s not in the kind of shape that WWE wants their superstars to be in.

According to F4Wonline, the clip was released publicly because WWE officials want Zz gone from the show after this week. Dave Meltzer claimed WWE set things up for Zz to be gone last week, but fans weren’t manipulated the way they expected, so Zz wasn’t eliminated.

During last week’s elimination, Zz got the most votes to stay while Mada went home even though he was one of the best guys on the show. »

10 Reasons This Year’s WWE Tough Enough Sucks

30 July 2015 11:55 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE Tough Enough is currently in its fifth season, airing each Tuesday night on the USA Network. The show is a mix of pre-taped footage from the previous week, and a live elimination ceremony similar to American Idol. Contestants live at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Fl, and go through weekly challenges outside of the center while learning the basics of wrestling in the center. Their trainers are Billy Gunn, Lita and Booker T. They are then judged by the live panel of judges, consisting of Daniel Bryan and Paige. Hulk Hogan was originally the third judge, but after the racism scandal, he was replaced by The Miz, although it’s unclear whether it’s a permanent replacement or not. The judges each pick one contestant to be eligible to be eliminated (each judge has a save per season), and the viewers vote on who they want to stay. »
