The Vampire Diaries Review: “A Bird In A Gilded Cage” (Season 6, Episode 17)

19 March 2015 8:42 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

For seasons, yes, plural, the writers of The Vampire Diaries relied heavily on the idea of the mysterious ‘other side.’ They used it as a stomping ground for characters who had come and gone, a way to bridge the gap between the living and dead. It was just as easy to bring someone back to “life” when the story needed a little help, as it was to temporarily kill someone off. With the collapse of the other side in the season five finale, it seemed like the potential to catch up with supernaturals from the past via anything but flashbacks was gone – but it turned out that wasn’t entirely the case.

The writers are still sticking to their guns and keeping those sucked into oblivion with the annihilation of their former supernatural purgatory firmly tucked away, but they have come up with a creative alternative. Although fan favorites that »

Vampire Diaries Recap: Let It Go

You can take the humanity out of the girl, but the control freak? Not so much — unless, of course, you’re Stefan Salvatore in Thursday’s Vampire Diaries.

Caroline may be a little different now, but, in one way, she’s still very much the same: she is determined to keep a normal routine and not attract unwanted attention. That means covering her tracks by cleaning up the damaged bar and trying out for the school musical. Unfortunately for her, Stefan ruins her (amazing) audition by killing the drama teacher. »

Exclusive! 'Vampire Diaries' Sneak Peek: Damon Has the Perfect Plan to Save Steroline

17 March 2015 10:00 AM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

All hell is breaking loose -- again!

After last week's visually stunning, and darkly manipulative episode, we're now left with a Vampire Diaries first: Both Caroline (Candice Accola) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) have embraced their blood-thirsty and emotionless sides, and they're a potentially deadly combination for Mystic Falls trouble.

Luckily, it appears that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) has the perfect plan to flip their humanity switches – and only ETonline has your exclusive sneak peek.

News: Ian Somerhalder’s Brilliant Directorial Debut Will Leave You Speechless!

"We need Kai to get to 1903, and we need Bennett blood to do the damn spell," Damon explains to an extremely pissed-off Bonnie (Kat Graham). "Listen, we do in, we grab my mom, she flips Stefan's switch, he triggers Caroline. Emotional dominoes — Yay! Everybody wins."

But will Damon's seemingly perfect plan work on the first try? Of course not – this is Tvd, people! But it will certainly make for some amazing entertainment to watch »

The Vampire Diaries season 6 episode 16 review: The Downward Spiral

16 March 2015 1:44 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

This week's Ian Somerhalder-directed episode of The Vampire Diaries shows season 6 at its wackiest, most absurd, and most fun...

This review contains spoilers.

6.16 The Downward Spiral

There was a point some time between seasons two and three (possibly four) of The Vampire Diaries when things just stopped being fun. It was still crazy and melodramatic and frequently ridiculous, but not any of those things to the same level. We were stuck with a love triangle that wasn't going anywhere, characters too big for what the show was able to give them (Klaus, Katherine etc.) and too many dead ends to count.

Season six threw all of that out and decided to get back to that wacky, absurd fun that made us all fall in love with the series in the first place, and this episode – The Downward Spiral – might be the best example yet of that coming to fruition. »

The Vampire Diaries Recap: Take Out Her Heart

13 March 2015 6:16 AM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

These hiatuses are just killer. This season has been so good that when we’re off, I find myself in season-two longing mode. Rip, Stelena. Thankfully, three weeks only feels like an eternity because if I had to wait one more to figure out what Caroline was up to sans humanity, I would have turned my own humanity switch off. (This involves less ripper-ing and more French fries, in my case.) This week our one and only Ian Somerhalder stepped behind the camera, so needless to say, it was an A+ episode. We don’t call him Smolderhalder for nothing, ya know? Let’s get into it.I have to admit, I was looking forward to Caroline without her humanity. Mostly because Candice Accola is fierce beyond reason, and I wanted to see that in action. Plus 10. The first thing we learned about humanityless Caroline is that her voice is »
