The Vampire Diaries returned last night with an episode directed by Ian Somerhalder and it proved to be one of the most devastatingly satisfying yet as Stefan returned to his ripper ways while Damon was able to relocate a piece of his long lost conscience. Next week's episode will take the Salvatore brothers back to Mystic Falls where they reunite with Sybil, who has a new mission for them. Meanwhile, Bonnie & Enzo also return and may have made a major decision about their future. Plus, Damon seeks help from Caroline in handling an out-of-control Stefan, but runs into unexpected trouble when Stefan retaliates by recruiting Sybil, who promptly begins taunting the elder Salvatore with memories of his past. Production on The Originals Season 4 (premiering Friday, March 17) has already wrapped. If the series is renewed for Season 5, Julie Plec will return to seize the reins, since The Vampire Diaries will have ended.

As far as mid-season returns go, The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 8 felt a little slow. Not unimportant to the overall story of our final season, but slow.
Contrasted with the episode Paul Wesley directed, wherein Stefan sold his soul to Cade in exchange for Caroline's daughters, this Ian Somerhalder directed episode was a little more filler and a lot less thriller.

Maybe that's necessary from time to time. In a typical, full-order season, it wouldn't be uncommon to have a few episodes that don't shine quite as brightly as their counterparts.
Sure, there's new information by way of Matt's family history, but even that feels forced so that a connection between the Sirens and Mystic Falls can be made. Now the Maxwells are the original Founding Family (when the Mikaelsons were already the original Original Founding Family...)

When it comes to lunatic teachers leading their students into life-threatening situations under the guise of a “field trip,” Ms. Frizzle’s got nothing on The Vampire Diaries‘ Sybil.

I mean, I don’t recall the Magic School Bus dropping any kids off in the middle of the woods to recreate a mass witch burning. And I’m fairly certain Ms. Frizzle never abandoned her students to track down a supernatural siren bell. Yet those activities were all on Sybil’s to-do list during Friday’s episode, which also dropped »
Remember how bummed we were when The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder broke up? Luckily they've been able to remain friends, but they certainly aren't the first TV costars to strike up (and then end) a romantic relationship - small-screen duos like Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody, Blake Lively and Penn Badgley, and Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron also hooked up during their downtime, and leading ladies like Jennifer Garner, Emily VanCamp, and Sophia Bush were lucky enough to find love on more than one set. Friday’s Vampire Diaries (The CW, 8/7c) marks star Ian Somerhalder‘s third — and final — turn as director, and he’s promising plenty of “powerful” performances in his big send-off.

“Our show is kind of famous for jamming a lot of story into one 44-minute episode, so what’s great about this one is that I really got the chance to let a few storylines live and coexist with one another,” Somerhalder tells TVLine. “For me, it’s simply about taking those cameras, putting them in front of »
A humanity-free Stefan and a barely hanging on Damon are just the energy we need when The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 8 airs. And that's exactly what we're going to get.
When last we saw Stefan Salvatore he was on his way to deliver up souls to Cade in exchange for his eventual freedom. Damon, of course, was driving their muscle car to Hell.
The brothers are making a stop in anger management classes in "We Have History Together," directed by none other than Ian Somerhalder. If there's one place they're bound to find some twisted people, it's probably there.
Meanwhile, Sybil forces Caroline into a little bit of servitude. It seems there's a mystical object Sybil needs in order to protect herself and she wants Caroline to find it.
But what's that got to do with a classroom full of high school students? (What doesn't it have to do is probably the better question. »

There are two big questions about the remaining five episodes of the CW’s long-running drama series The Vampire Diaries, which is ending its run with the current 16-episode eighth season: How will the show wrap and will original star Nina Dobrev make a return. New setting, new cast, new look.
Sleepy Hollow returns on Friday for its fourth season, and there will be sweeping changes following the shocking death of Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie). The supernatural drama moves the action from Sleepy Hollow, New York to Washington, D.C., introducing several key characters as a result, including new female lead Janina Gavankar, a genre regular who will play Homeland Security Agent Diana Thomas.
But don’t expect Abbie 2.0. As Gavankar -- who has a knack for joining shows in their fourth seasons (see: The L Word, The Vampire Diaries and True Blood) -- tells Et ahead of the premiere, Diana will be markedly different and most importantly, she isn’t meant to “replace Abbie.” “Even though Abbie’s not physically there, she’s still part of the fabric of the show,” Gavankar, 36, maintains.
