Vote for the biggest surprise from the past season, while getting scoop on what’s to come in season five.
From the moment Elena (Nina Dobrev) first bore her fangs, we knew The Vampire Diaries‘ fourth season was going to be something special. Relive the 10 biggest shockers of season four, and get the latest season five spoilers. Just think: There’s more of this madness to come!
1. Elena & Stefan Break Up
We’ve seen this play out before, but that was all a show for Katherine. This time, it was really for real — and it resulted in a super-weepy, unappealing Stefan (Paul Wesley) for most of the remaining season.
2. Elena & Damon Have Sex
Before the experience was ruined by news of the alleged sire bond, this was the show’s hottest hookup ever. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena made that entire mansion their bitch, and an endless number of gifs were born. »

Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen the Season 4 finale of The CW's "The Vampire Diaries," titled "Graduation."
"The Vampire Diaries" finale closed some doors, but opened a lot of other ones. Stefan (Paul Wesley) is in a safe at the bottom of the ocean after Silas revealed to the younger Salvatore brother that he is his doppleganger and pushed him off a cliff; Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) confessed their love for one another; Bonnie (Kat Graham) brought Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) back from the dead, but now she's officially a ghost; Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Caroline (Candice Accola) shared a tender moment; Katherine (Dobrev) is now a human after Elena shoved the cure down her throat; and Matt (Zach Roerig) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) finally kissed and planned a summer vacation far from Mystic Falls.

Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder has a new love in his life, following his breakup with costar Nina Dobrev last week—but it's not exactly what you think. The actor posted a photo on Instagram showing off his "new baby," an Audi Q5 Hybrid SUV in silver. "She's waiting for me on the show room floor—going to pull my Airstream and get me into the woods!" he joked. Somerhalder thanked the car dealership employees at Audi Murietta who helped him with his big purchase and wrote, "I honestly miss the chill warm life in Georgia." Luckily for him, he can now take plenty of road trips to the Peach State! »

After this game-changing fourth season finale, nothing — and no one — is ever going to be the same in Mystic Falls.
Before I start talking about the May 16 season finale of The Vampire Diaries, I need to offer this disclaimer: I’m just as confused as the rest of you, as the final two minutes of this episode blew my mind into tiny little pieces. Yes, Elena (Nina Dobrev) chose between the brothers, someone got the cure — but there was another twist waiting in the wings that I never saw coming…
Stefan Is A Doppelganger?!
Yeah, you read that right. With Silas turned to stone, Stefan (Paul Wesley) took his body to the lake, intending to bury him at sea for good. But that’s when Silas revealed that, not only is he very much alive, but his true form is actually Stefan! Apparently Silas is the one who created the »

Did The Vampire Diaries' Elena Gilbert finally have a happy ending? It seems that way — for now.
On the Season 4 finale, Mystic Falls' leading lady confessed her love for Damon (Ian Somerhalder), beat her doppelganger Katherine (Nina Dobrev) at her own game by making her mortal, and even got her brother, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), back. So is Dobrev hopeful for her character's immediate future?

It's no surprise that Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev were consummate professionals when they made a joint appearance earlier today at the CW's Upfronts in NYC. "They're still friends," a source tells me. As you may have heard, the Vampire Diaries stars broke up last week after more than three years of dating. "There's no bad blood between them," the source said. "There was no other person involved or any big fight." The source said the two decided to call it quits after realizing that Dobrev wasn't ready to settle down as much as Somerhalder has wanted. "They still talk daily," the source said. Well, this isn't awkward at all. Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev reunited at the CW Network's 2013 Upfronts in NYC today amid reports that the couple of nearly three-years have called it quits. The two took the stage together with network president Mark Pedowitz, where the pair not only looked fabulous, but also remained consummate professionals as they came to talk about the show (see more of that here). "There was no apparent awkwardness onstage," an eyewitness tells E! News, while adding the former couple walked the carpet separately, about 15 minutes apart. "They were both very professional," a second source says. The 34-year-old actor and the »

Nina Dobrev never ceases to amaze us. Fresh off her edgy and cool appearance at the 2013 Met Gala, the star stepped out on the red carpet in NYC for the CW Upfront at the London Hotel where she opted for a blue Versace dress that clung to her curves.
Nina Dobrev CW Upfront Dress:
The 24-year-old looked perfectly polished in the ensemble and the dress was so appropriate for the occasion. Hardware at the waist accentuated her svelte frame and showed just a hint of skin while the frock hit her right above the knee. A pointy pair of Rupert Sanderson pumps tied the whole look together. Nina kept the look simple and chic, stepping out sans accessories, »

During the actual presentation, Ian and Nina joined CW President Mark Pedowitz on stage to help introduce the network’s new crop of original programming.
Despite Ian and Nina’s recent breakup, the stars couldn’t have been friendlier with one another, putting on a great show for everyone in attendance.

The CW gets points for originality. After three days of marathon presentations, it’s hard to surprise weary upfront goers. But the network found a way to cheer them up when everyone’s attendance bracelets lit up and began to pulsate to the dance music of presentation’s opening act, Swedish DJ duo Icona Pop (and the following music intros). CW president Mark Pedowitz doubles as a couples counselor today, walking onstage hand in hand with recently broken up Vampire Diaries stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder. “Last year, I told you this would be a transformative season at the CW and it has been,” Pedowitz says.
