The 'Nancy Drew' Pilot Was 'Too Female' for CBS? Twitter Reacts

  • Moviefone
Girls have cooties anyway, right? According to Deadline, CBS decided to pass on the "Nancy Drew" pilot starring Sarah Shahi ("Person of Interest"), because the wrong half of the population was into it. Here's how Deadline's Nellie Andreeva described the rejection:

"'Drew' is not going forward at CBS but is being shopped to other outlets by CBS TV Studios. I hear the pilot tested well but skewed too female for CBS' schedule. In the end of the day, I hear the network had no 8 Pm or 9 Pm slot available.

Written/executive produced by [Joan] Rater and [Tony] Phelan, 'Drew' stars Sarah Shahi as Nancy — now in her 30s — a detective for the NYPD where she investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world. Anthony Edwards, Felix Solis and Rob McClure co-star in the project, also executive produced by Dan Jinks.

CBS’ big Nancy Drew mystery has been solved: Person of Interest‘s Sarah Shahi has nabbed the coveted title role in the network’s contemporary take on the classic Carolyn Keene novels.

Sarah Shahi to Star in Nancy Drew CBS Pilot ‘Drew’

Sarah Shahi to Star in Nancy Drew CBS Pilot ‘Drew’
CBS has found their Nancy Drew in Sarah Shahi, who will play the titular role in “Drew,” the network’s modernized spin on the classic detective character, Variety has learned.

Since ordering the pilot, CBS has been very vocal about wanting to cast a diverse actress in the lead role, with network president Glenn Geller saying the star would not be Caucasian and the search would be open to all other ethnicities. Born in Texas, Shahi is from Iranian, Persian and Spanish ancestry.

Titled “Drew,” the potential series is described as a contemporary take on the character from the iconic Nancy Drew book series. The pilot will center around a 30-something who is a more mature version of Nancy than the one in the popular novels. Nancy is now detective for the NYPD, where she investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world.
