Natalie Portman Dismisses ‘Superman’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Rumors

31 December 2010 10:44 AM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

As two comic book films will go into production next year, the rumor mill is running rampant. Actress Natalie Portman is rumored for a starring role in Zack Snyder-directed “Superman: The Man of Steel” and Christopher Nolan-directed “The Dark Knight Rises.” According to an upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly (via ComingSoon), Portman denied both rumors. On Superman, she responded, “What is that? [laughter] No, I haven’t heard anything.” She also answered about Dark Knight by saying, “Oh, I don’t know anything about that.” With her pregnancy and engagement, it is unlikely in my opinion she will be cast in either movies unless the production will start later next year. Of course, these are fun rumors to speculate.Source: Comingsoon.net »

Do-It-Yourself Shifting Rorschach Mask From ‘Watchmen’

31 December 2010 9:00 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

There are some geek mementos we know we'll never own. An X-Wing fighter, Iron Man's suit, Batman's utility belt, a Tron light cycle, things like that. Well cross another one [1]off your list. A YouTube user by the name of guinness0507, who runs a paint company called Paint With Pearl [2], has figured out a way to make a real-life, working Rorschach mask. It's not as responsive as the CGI one that Jackie Earle Haley had in Zack Snyder's Watchmen, but it's pretty awesome none the less. Check out the video after the jump. Thanks to Nerd Bastard [3] for the link, with a heads up from Neat-o-Rama [4]. Natalie Portman Denies Rumors She Will Star in Superman or The Dark Knight Rises

31 December 2010 | The Daily BLAM! | See recent The Daily BLAM! news »

The popular actress, who is sure to garner an Academy Award nomination this season, has denied being involved in both Zack Snyder and Chris Nolan's superhero projects. Director Zack Snyder (Sucker Punch, Watchmen) has been tapped to helm the yet to be titled Superman film, scheduled to enter production early next year for a theatrical release in the second half of 2012. One of the actresses recently linked to the re-cast role of Lois Lane is Black Swan star Natalie Portman. If that weren't enough, her name has also repeatedly been mentioned with director Christopher Nolan's third and final Batman film; The Dark Knight Rises. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, though, the in-demand Portman clears up her rumored association to both projects; first with Superman, "What is that? ( »

Natalie Portman Denies Superman & Dark Knight Rumors

31 December 2010 | Comingsoon.net | See recent Comingsoon.net news »

While comic book fans already loved Natalie Portman in the Wachowskis' take on Alan Moore and David Lloyd's V For Vendetta and are looking forward to her playing Jane Foster in Kenneth Branagh's Thor , the critical and awards heat she's been getting for her role in Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan has put the 17-year acting vet's name on everyone's lips. Two of the many movies she's been rumored to be in line for are Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment's upcoming tentpole movies, Zack Snyder's Superman: The Man of Steel and Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises . In an interview for this week's Oscar issue of Entertainment Weekly , Portman denied the rumors about her appearing in either (or both) films. When asked about Superman, she told them: "What is »

Three New Stills from Sucker Punch; 2D Release Confirmed

30 December 2010 9:53 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Regardless of how much it may be just on the fringe of horror, one film we can't wait to see is Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, and today three new stills were released from the flick, one of which includes a nice look at Scott Glenn as the Wiseman.

In addition, despite some recent Internet rumblings about its release being via the dreaded 3D conversion method, Collider has confirmed that Sucker Punch will in fact be in glorious 2D only.

Synopsis:

Sucker Punch is an action fantasy that takes us into the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Unrestrained by the boundaries of time and place, she is free to go where her mind takes her, but her incredible adventures blur the lines between what's real and what is imaginary...with potentially tragic consequences.

Sucker Punch Will Not Be in 3D

30 December 2010 5:31 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

This past July, director Zack Snyder and producer Debbie Snyder strongly implied that their latest film, Sucker Punch, would not be getting a 3D post-conversion.  However, earlier today, Bleeding Cool reported that the movie was listed among various films playing in 3D at the BFI IMAX. We have now spoken with multiple sources close to the production who have confirmed that Sucker Punch will not be in 3D.  So there you have it: we don't have to worry about a crappy 3D post-conversion for this film.  For those not familiar with the movie, hit the jump for the film's trailer and synopsis.  Sucker Punch stars Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, Jamie Chung, Carla Gugino, and Jon Hamm.  It opens in 2D on March 25, 2011. Here's the official synopsis for Sucker Punch: Close your eyes. Open your mind. You will be unprepared. "Sucker Punch" is an epic action »

Three New Images from ‘Sucker Punch’

30 December 2010 2:59 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Zack Snyder is one of those directors that you either love or hate. If you don’t think that’s true, just listen to someone who liked The Watchmen talk to someone who didn’t like it. The conversation can get pretty heated.

I happen to fall into the “love him” camp. In my opinion, Snyder’s hyper-stylized camera work and meticulous attention to set design really add a new dimension to his movies, even when the story-telling is somewhat lacking. That’s one of the reasons why I’m excited to see Snyder’s new action/fantasy film Sucker Punch.

Everything we’ve seen from Sucker Punch so far – from our first look at Comic-Con to the most recent Sucker Punch trailer – has cemented the film as one of our most anticipated movies of 2011. Recently, MovieWeb ...

Lr's The Blu Room: Legend Of The Guardians 3D & 2D Blu-Ray Review

Legend Of The Guardians:the Owls Of Ga' Hoole – (3D Blu-ray)Warner Home Entertainment2010/Rated PG/Running Time 97 minsList Price $44.98 – Now AvailableWhat would possess Zack Snyder to make a kiddie film about owls? I remember asking myself this question many months back when I first caught the trailer for the 300 director's latest, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole. Had Snyder licked one too many Tootsie Roll pops or was he trying to show Warner Bros., the studio which had produced his last two films, that he could be a versatile director? Perhaps making a sure fire hit children's film was the only way the studio would back a radical idea like his bizarre looking epic Sucker Punch? Whatever the reason, I don't really care, because Lotg not only marks Snyder's best film, but proves he can handle stories of substance over style. Not that any of Snyder's familiar style is missing from Lotg, »

Will ‘Sucker Punch’ Be in 3D After All? Plus Three New Images

30 December 2010 10:24 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Will Sucker Punch be post-converted to 3D, or will it not? That question has come up once more thanks to a poster advertising 'The Ultimate 3D Cinematic Experience' at the BFI IMAX in London. But last time we heard from Sucker Punch director Zack Snyder, the film would be 2D. So what's going on? Plus, there are three new images from the film, after the break. Bleeding Cool [1] found the poster advert for Samsung's 3D showcase, which also promises screenings of Tron Legacy, Mars Needs Moms and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Those are all known 3D films, but then right in the middle of the lineup is Sucker Punch. In April of last year, Warner Bros. announced [2] that most of the company's tentpole films would be released in 3D, whether shot natively in the format or post-converted. Sucker Punch was announced for post-conversion. But the backlash against »

The World Goes Crazier With New ‘Sucker Punch’ Stills

30 December 2010 8:06 AM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Oh, what has that madman Zack Snyder wrought?

You know from the trailer that Snyder’s latest mostly-green-screen extravaganza, “Sucker Punch,” looks absolutely insane. You get the girl from “Lemony Snicket,” all grown up and hot, getting tossed into a mental asylum (or something), where she soon dons midriff-revealing schoolgirl outfits, battles CGI dragons, flies around in helicopters and heeds the wisdom of Scott Glenn (or something), all set to the soothing sounds of Led Zeppelin’s “When the Levee Breaks.”

Yeah, we can’t wait to see it, either.

ShockYa.com has increased our anticipation for this madness with a handful of new “Sucker Punch” stills, one of which features Scott Glenn looking old and wise and probably bestowing some of that aforementioned wisdom upon the hot “Lemony Snicket” girl. The pics may not shed any new light on just what in the heck this thing is about but, »

New Images From Zack Snyder's 'Sucker Punch'; Will The Film Be Released In 3D After All?

30 December 2010 5:52 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

We're right on the verge of hitting 2011 (look out for our mammoth preview pieces next week), and one of the highest profile pictures in the early part of the year is Zack Snyder's passion project "Sucker Punch." Warner Bros. are hoping that by giving one of their key directors (who is, after all, next set to tackle the crown jewel of "Superman") a huge budget to indulge his own interests, they'll be able to match the success they had with the same approach on Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The plot follows a young girl (Emily Browning) who's committed by her… »

Is Sucker Punch Going To Be In 3D After All?

29 December 2010 6:58 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Back in July, director Zack Snyder gave us all hope that the 3D fad may be close to over when he told a reporter that he had been looking at post-conversion for his upcoming film, Sucker Punch, but that if he didn't have time to do it properly, then the film wouldn't be in 3D. A little more than a week later, his wife and producer, Deborah Snyder, supported Snyder's comments, saying that what they weren't happy with any of the post-conversions they had seen. Sadly, it now looks like you can't stop the Hollywood juggernaut once it's on a role. Bleeding Cool has dug up an advertisement for the Samsung sponsored "Ultimate 3D Cinematic Experience At The [British Film Instititute] IMAX" and one of the titles included, alongside Tron: Legacy, Mars Needs Moms and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, is Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch. Another Look at Frank Miller’s Xerxes Comic Book

At the rate Frank Miller is penning and drawing his “Xerxes” comic book, his prequel/sequel to “300″, we’re all going to be old men before this thing finally sees print. But to get you ready for it, Dark Horse Comics has premiered another pic from the upcoming comic book title as the cover of their “Dark Horse Presents” #1 issue. Zack Snyder, who adapted Miller’s “300″ onto the big screen, is said to be anxiously awaiting the finished panels himself so he can start adapting it. Of course, with Snyder now knee-deep in all things “Superman” reboot, it could be a while before we see “300″ part two on the big screen, if at all. »

‘Winter’s Bone,’ ‘King’s Speech’, ‘Toy Story 3?, and ‘Never Let Me Go’ Ineligible for WGA Awards

Don't expect to see Winter's Bone, King's Speech, Toy Story 3, Never Let Me Go, and How to Train Your Dragon nominated for the WGA Awards. The Writers Guild of America have revealed the list of eligible films, and none of the previously mentioned highly acclaimed movies/screenplays are on the ballot. Before you get up in arms, you must realize that the guild's rules restrict nominations to productions aren't produced by WGA members or under WGA guidelines. Other films missing from the WGA ballot include Biutiful, The Ghost Writer, Nowhere Boy, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World and The Way Back. Of the animated feature films, Zack Snyder's Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole passed, while more highly acclaimed movies like Pixar's Toy Story 3 and DreamWorks Animation's How to Train Your Dragon were deemed ineligible. Frank Miller's Xerxes Cover, Prequel to 300

29 December 2010 3:54 AM, PST | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Back in June, Dark Horse Comics unveiled a look (pictured) at Frank Miller's "Xerxes" graphic novel, which is a prequel to his "300" graphic novel that was turned into a feature film, directed by Zack Snyder. Today, Dark Horse released a brand new cover for the prequel and you can now check it out below. Miller previously revealed that the graphic novel takes place ten years before "300" and that it "starts with the Battle of Marathon. The lead character is Themistocles, who became warlord of Greece and built their navy. The story is very different than '300' in that it involves Xerxes' search for godhood. The existence of gods are presupposed in this story and the idea is that he's well on his way to godhood by the end of the story." He added that Themistocles is the complete opposite of Leonidas, but the "300" character does appear in "Xerxes. »

Legend Of The Guardians: The Owls Of Ga’Hoole Blu-ray Review

Zack Snyder. A CG animated owl movie. Holy crap, did that actually happen? Yes it did, it’s that movie with the terrible name Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. It’s based on a kid’s book, but still. The story of a young owl named Soren (voiced by Jim Sturgess) who’s stolen with his siblings to be a slave for the “Pure Ones” headed by Metalbeak (Joel Edgerton) and his wife Nyra (Helen Mirren), but Soren’s destined to be a great owl, and perhaps savior. Abbie Cornish, Sam Neill, Geoffrey Rush, Richard Roxburgh, Hugo Weaving, and David Wenham are also feature voice performers. The review of Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole on Blu-ray follows after the jump. It takes about a half hour to fall in with the film, as owls are weird creatures to personify. But that’s all the set-up. »
