Today’s top casting notices could get you cast in Fox’s smash hit “Empire” as a speaking supporting role, as background talent on an episode of Amazon’s “The Patriot,” and more. “Empire” Executive producers Lee Daniels and Danny Strong are seeking to fill several supporting roles for the upcoming third season of “Empire” with the help of casting director Jess Gisin. Teenage rappers and beat boxers are needed from Chicago area, as are two 18- to 19-year-old female actors to play a teenage Carol (Tasha Smith) and a teenage Candace (Vivica A. Fox) in a flashback. Some pay will be provided for this July 7–18 Chicago shoot. “The Patriot”Gisin is also working on casting this Amazon series that follows a father who works for the U.S. State Department and has two sons in opposition with one another. BET Looks to Make Televised Film Awards Show With ABFF Annually

Solidifying the relatively new marriage between Bet and the American Black Film Festival, the network and org joined together again for the Bet Experience during its awards show weekend in downtown Los Angeles. L.A. Live held the film fest, titled Abff Encore, in addition to Bet’s annual concert series and expos to expand its once music-centered weekend of events further into television and film.

“We did our first award show together in response to #OscarsSoWhite, and this was the outgrowth of that,” said Bet president Debra Lee. “It allows us to shine more light on what’s happening in Hollywood.”

Abff Encore consisted of multiple screenings of African-American films, as well as panels featuring “Black-ish” showrunner Kenya Barris, actor-director Robert Townsend (“Hollywood Shuffle,” “The Parent ‘Hood”) and actress Tasha Smith (“Empire”). Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead, if you have not watched “Empire” season 2, episode 17, titled “Rise By Sin,” which aired on May 11.

“Empire” went out with a bang — and it’s not even the finale.

As teased in promos for this week’s episode, a Lyon would be shot down. Even with the warning, the final moment came as a shock when Jamal (Jussie Smollett) was shot by Freda Gatz (Bre-z) at the Asa Awards and left in critical condition.

Casting News:

Justin Long will star in ABC’s soccer comedy pilot “Dream Team.” He will play Marty Schumacher, the eternally optimistic manager of a sporting goods store and the head coach of a nationally ranked soccer program. The potential series centers around his character, who coached his last club soccer team for 10 years, ultimately taking them to the national championships. Now, he has to start from scratch with a diverse group of 8-year-olds and their disparate parents.

“Dream Team” will also star Michael Mosely, Lindsey Kraft and Michelle Buteau. The sports comedy hails from “Will & Grace” alums Bill Wrubel and Kari Lizer.
