18 August 2014 7:06 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Back before Hollywood studios like Warner Bros., Sony, Paramount, Universal and 20th Century Fox realized that you could actually make money off of adapting silly comic books into movies, there was a German producer by the name of Bernd Eichinger. He had the vision to see that comic books could become blockbusters and had his company purchase the film rights to the Fantastic Four from Stan Lee. One issue, his company didn't have the money to actually make a big-budget Hollywood film. So, in order to keep the film rights his company hired Roger Corman to produce it, as he was well known for making films on the cheap. The cast included: Alex Hyde-White as Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic, Jay Underwood as Johnny Storm / Human Torch, Rebecca Staab as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, Michael Bailey Smith as Ben Grimm, Carl Ciarfalio as the Thing and Joseph Culp as »

‘Glad All Over’ Fortifies Dave Clark Five’s Might at Forefront of British Invasion

7 April 2014 5:30 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Most people who perceive the Beatles and the Rolling Stones as having led the British Invasion might be surprised to learn that the Dave Clark Five gave both groups a run for their money during their mid-’60s heyday. And that whole Beatles vs. Stones thing? The DC5 vs. the Fab Four constituted its own rivalry, at least according to the documentary “The Dave Clark Five and Beyond” — Glad All Over,” airing Tuesday, April 8, at 8 p.m. and Friday, April 11, at 10 p.m. on PBS (Koce in Los Angeles) as part of the “Great Performances” series.

Judging by the milestones, the Tottenham-based DC5 made it their business to one-up their Liverpool counterparts, beginning with the single “Glad All Over,” which supplanted “I Want to Hold Your Hand” at the top of the U.K. singles chart in 1964 and performing on “The Ed Sullivan Show” 18 times compared to the Beatles’ trio of appearances. »

Trailer for documentary Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four

This year, 20th Century Fox is set to begin production on The Fantastic Four, a reboot of the live-action movie series based around Marvel's First Family. However, before Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis donned the spandex for 2005's Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, B-movie legend Roger Corman assembled Alex Hyde-White, Rebecca Staab, Jay Underwood and Michael Bailey Smith for 1994's The Fantastic Four

Never heard of it? Well, that's not really a surprise. As it happens, the final film never made it to cinemas, nor indeed VHS or DVD. You see, the whole thing was designed to help producer Bernd Eichinger retain his option on the characters and shot on a $1 million shoestring budget in less than a month. In the build up to its release, Eichinger pulled the plug, sparking rumours (later supported up by Stan Lee) that »

Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s he Fantastic Four.

Here’s the official press release:

In 1994, Roger Corman was tapped to produce this Marvel superhero story on a very small film budget. The film was ultimately shelved prior to distribution, but a VHS copy was mysteriously leaked and the movie became a darling of film bootleggers and, more recently, web pirates. Rumors and speculation surrounding the production have become as much a part of the lore as the film itself.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Roger Corman’s edition of The Fantastic Four and finally, all of the secrets, stories and legal shenanigans that have kept this a ‘lost’ film will be revealed through in-depth, investigative interviews with the cast and crew.

The documentary is directed by east coast Film Studies professor and independent filmmaker, »
