Almost every great director had a low budget start. When comparing Quentin Tarantino’s first feature film, Reservoir Dogs to Chris Notarile’s second major project, Stand Off, there is no denying a few similarities—and Notarile shows plenty of potential as an indie producer/director. He has had plenty of practice with his short genre films on his website, Blinky Productions, and in his foray into feature length movies, he is keeping the movies he likes to make simple.
With Stand Off, there’s a deeper meaning that can be found, or it can simply be enjoyed at face value. And just like this director’s other short film projects, Notarile has no problems in borrowing from other works. He releases »

Being a ‘fan’ means many things to many people. William Shatner seems to expand his resume about as many times as he narrowly escaped death on the original Star Trek tv series. TV guest star (Twilight Zone, Outer Limits), TV star (Star Trek, T.J. Hooker, Boston Legal, $#*! My Dad Says), movie star (Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II-vi, Star Trek: Generations, Miss Congeniality), as well as writer, director, producer, voice artist, talk show host, author. Now he has added “documentarian” to the list. The Captains is, as you might have guessed, a documentary about the captains of the Star Trek multiverse.
This documentary seems almost like a companion piece to The Biography Channel’s The Captains of the Final Frontier (2010). He must have been familiar with it, given that he has had two series on that channel (Aftermath with William Shatner, Shatner’s Raw Nerve).
