Bachelorette 2012 Eliminated 6 Men In Episode 1 Tonight

14 May 2012 8:23 PM, PDT | OnTheFlix | See recent OnTheFlix news »

Bachelorette 2012 eliminated 6 men in episode 1 tonight. Tonight's episode, kicked off with Emily's backstory. Then they showed snippets of all the Bachelors that are showing up this year. Next,Emily sat down and talked with host Chris Harrison to talk about why she's there, and how she really wants to find her perfect man,and blah, blah, blah. After a break, Emily met all the bachelors, one by one,as they came out of the limo. One of the guys named Kalon arrived on a helicopter, and the other guys definitely weren't fans of that. Next, Emily chatted with a few of the guys at the opening cocktail party. One of the guys named Doug kept playing the "I'm a parent too" card extremely hard. He brought a note from his child and everything. It worked too, because she ended up giving Doug the first impression rose. After the final break, »

Denette Wilford: 'Chopped: All-Stars' Finale: Symon Says

7 May 2012 11:03 AM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

The week foodies have been waiting for has finally arrived -- at least in Canada. Lucky Americans already know who won the $50,000 for their charity in the final episode of "Chopped: All-Stars" (which aired Sunday night in the U.S.) but I've avoided any and all spoilers leading up to Tuesday's Canadian finale.

The final four consists of Michael Symon (who beat out fellow Iron Chefs Cat Cora, Marc Forgione and Jose Garces), Jeffrey Saad (who took on Aarti Sequeira, Keegan Gerhard and Marcela Valladolid), Penny Davidi (who battled former "Next Food Network Star" contestants Vic "Vegas" Moea, Chris Nirschel and Justin Balmes) and Marcus Samuelsson (who, along with fellow judges Chris Santos, Marc Murphy and Alex Guarnaschelli, got to see what it felt like on the other side of the "Chopped" kitchen).

Who else was cheering for Alex? No offence to Marcus (or Chris and Marc), but I've always been a fan of Alex. »

25 years later, “Adventures in Babysitting” stands apart in the teen comedy genre

26 April 2012 1:29 PM, PDT | The Moving Arts Journal | See recent The Moving Arts Journal news »

Given the recent surge of 1980s popular culture nostalgia, discussions of that decade’s iconic films unfailingly revert to the unique 1980s teen comedy genre, always dominated by the catalog of John Hughes. But sadly, some outstanding films from that era are overlooked or even forgotten, and all teen movies from this period seem to be unfairly compared to Hughes’s work. One such semi-lost and under-appreciated gem is director Chris Columbus’s delightful 1987 teen comedy “Adventures in Babysitting.”

The movie opens in Chicago’s Oak Park suburb with the pretty, charming, 17-year-old girl next door Chris Parker (Elisabeth Shue) preparing for a romantic evening with her dreamy boyfriend Mike Todwell (Bradley Whitford). Mike finally arrives, only to inform Chris that his younger sister is sick, and that he is unable to take her out. Devastated, Chris mopes in her bedroom, seeking comfort from her band geek friend Brenda (Penelope Ann Miller »

Brothers battle royale: Two Hemsworths enter; one Hemsworth leaves?

17 April 2012 1:37 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Liam and Chris Hemsworth are on the verge of something improbable, if not unprecedented. Not only did both brothers hit the genetic lottery, but both are essential components of studio franchises that will dominate the box office this year. Liam, 22, laid the foundation for his character, Gale, in The Hunger Games, and has a role in the upcoming Aarp action film, Expendables 2. Chris, 28, is, literally, a Norse god, playing Thor again in The Avengers, as well as the Huntsman in the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman.

What makes the Hemsworths’ success so unusual is that it contradicts one of »

Go Behind-the-Scenes of Municipal Waste's The Fatal Feast Music Video

10 April 2012 3:58 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

In San Diego twin brothers Jeff and Chris Speed are best known for their Blacklist Art & Film Festival, but they also have their own production company, Halo of Flies, and sent over a behind-the-scenes look at "The Fatal Feast" music video they recently shot for Municipal Waste.

Here's how Jeff, who has relocated to Los Angeles in order to get more work going up there, describes the sci-fi/horror-themed music video, "It's a total bloodbath with spaceship miniatures and practical effects created by my brother, Chris. I wrote and directed it, and Chris did the production design - building the miniature ships, gore door gag, beer cooler, etc. We try and keep most of our special effects practical since that aesthetic always looks the coolest."

As for Municipal Waste, they're a speed metal punk band out of Richmond, Virginia, comprised of Tony Foresta - Vocals, Ryan Waste - Guitar, Land Phil - Bass, »

SXSW 2012. Documentary Feature Competition

27 March 2012 2:54 PM, PDT | MUBI | See recent MUBI news »

As I mentioned when rounding up the Narrative Feature Competition, wrapping SXSW 2012 could take a while. That batch opened with comments from one of the jurors, J Hoberman, and this one will as well. First, though, let's mention that we already have roundups going on the award-winners, Beware of Mr Baker and Bay of All Saints.

So the Guardian's Catherine Shoard, jury member, found Jeffrey Kimball's The Central Park Effect to be "a sweet study of the birders who flock to Manhattan's thick strip of parkland each spring. It was pretty gentle, generic, even, but felt from a different planet from the rest in that it wasn't wholly human-focused. Sure, the warblers and the robins are red herrings, and it's really all about the cast of eccentrics who eyeball them – including celeb twitcher Jonathan Franzen, who pitches in with some unusually self-deprecating soundbites."

Maureen Ryan: 'Community's Back ... As Demented And Lovable As Ever

14 March 2012 6:08 PM, PDT | Aol TV. | See recent Aol TV. news »

It's a good time to be a TV fan: A few weeks ago, "Cougar Town" finally returned after a hiatus that stretched beyond fans' endurance; the long-absent "Mad Men" rewards our epic patience in less than two weeks; and "Game of Thrones" finally comes back April 1, after a completely normal between-seasons gap that felt like an endless stint in one of Robert Baratheon's jails. (Ok, so it might have felt that endless had there not been at least two dozen good shows that aired during the "GoT"-free time frame, but in fairness to "Game of Thrones" and the rabid loyalty the HBO drama inspires, none of those other shows featured both zombies and incestuous sex. You can't get that on "The Good Wife.")

But the program that has endured perhaps the most difficult wait of all has only been gone about four months, but it was a long, »

SXSW 2012 – 10 Most Anticipated Films

9 March 2012 4:19 PM, PST | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Picking 10 titles from a selection of 132 feature films is a bit of an exercise in absurdity, but for those of you looking to add a few more flicks to your ever-expanding list of “must sees” before you head down to the convention center, here are ten titles I personally am excited to see.

In alphabetical order:

Citadel

First up is Citadel, described by Irish director Ciarán Foy as “a psychological horror about an agoraphobic young father who teams up with a vigilante priest in order to save his daughter from a gang of twisted feral children.” I wasn’t able to find much else on Citadel but the stills are compelling enough and I’ve had a soft spot for any movie involving a vigilante priest since Peter Jackson’s Braindead. Also, keep an ear out for the film’s score, which is composed by the experimental duo tomandandy who »

Big Bang Theory, Walking Dead, X-Men, Captain America, Misfits in Eagle Awards 2012

2 March 2012 7:13 PM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Comics and all closely-related creative works in the geek spectrum are celebrated in the Eagle Awards 2012 - with the final round of voting now open to the public.

It's a chance to pick your favourite artist, writer, colourist, letterer, editor, publisher, story, graphic novel and comics magazine, along with American, British, European and manga titles.

But it goes beyond the printed page. There will be trophies for best web-based comic and comics website, while a further accolade will honour the best comics-related TV show or movie.

All the nominations are listed in full below.

It's apparent that the TV/film nominations do not necessarily have to be adapted from a comic. The contenders in this category are: The Big Bang Theory, The Walking Dead, X-Men; First Class, Captain America and Misfits.

The Big Bang Theory isn't derived from a comic but features four characters who are keen fans of comics and sci-fi culture. »

“The Forgiveness Of Blood” — A Hammer To Nail Review

(The Forgiveness of Blood is being distributed by Sundance Selects and comes to theaters on February 24, 2012. It world premiered at the 2011 Berlin International Film Festival. Note: This review was first posted at Hammer to Nail in conjunction with its screening at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival.)

The future of American independent filmmaking may not lie in America at all. In recent years, a number of filmmakers have turned their eyes away from the complexities of 21st century American life and toward the world beyond our national borders. The decision to engage another culture through filmmaking, to do the work to create a compelling and accurate (if fictional) representation of the lives of others, has come at a time when American culture seems to have deepened its inward gaze; with every push by artists seeking to give voice to the complexity of, say, Arab or Persian life (vital stories in the »

Denis Leary Talks About Playing George Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man

Think Denis Leary looks perfect to play NYC Police Capt. George Stacy in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man? You're not the only one.

In an interview with the L.A. Times's Hero Complex, Leary said a childhood friend once told him he looked like the comic book character.

A good friend of mine – comedian and actor Jeff Garlin, who I’ve known for about 90 years — said when he first met me that I reminded him of George Stacy. True story. We were in our 20s at the time and I thought he was insane. After I got a call from director Marc Webb asking me to play the part, I called Jeff and filled him in on the news. His response? ‘You never listen to me! Ever!

In the interview, Leary talks about growing up a Batman fan but said he has grown to appreciate Spidey.

“Collapse” Gets Foreign Video Release & Title Tweak

20 January 2012 8:48 AM, PST | FamousMonsters of Filmland | See recent Famous Monsters of Filmland news »

Collapse, Jason Bolinger and “Insane” Mike Saunders’ love letter to undead cinema and Midwestern toil, has been shuffling about in the shadows for quite a while on its way to distribution. Originally shot in 2009, well before the recent Walking Dead-inspired zombie influx, Collapse may have had a circuitous route into public hands, but there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel. Starting in Germany.

Intergroove/Film Savoy is releasing the film on January 27th on region free DVD and Blu-ray, with the tweaked title of Collapse Of The Living Dead. The picture stars Chris (Twin Peaks, Boardwalk Empire) Mulkey, Karen (St.Elsewhere, Heartbreak Hotel) Landry, and the omnipresent Linnea Quigley. Toby (The Walking Dead) Sells handled special make-up effects. Collapse is looking for U.S. release later this year, so stay tuned.

Synopsis:

“The normal worries of a struggling small town farmer are blown away when the »
