Parties: "The Help" Are Singing a Happy Tune

4 December 2011 12:46 PM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

This year I've had the pleasure of attending a few celebratory events for movies. At these luncheons or cocktail parties the filmmakers mingle with media types and Academy members. The most recent was a lunch for The Help held at Desmond's which is quite rectangular like a railroad apartment albeit one with very high ceilings. This gave the event a distinct bottleneck frenzy feel once Oscar buzzing actresses Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer were making the rounds... or in this case walking the aisle. Conversation became next to impossible. After a quick exchange with Octavia (in very high spirits) we both did a double take of mutual fandom; the hilarious Anna Deavere Smith (Nurse Jackie, Rachel Getting Married) was squeezing past us saying a string of goodbyes. By the time I was face to face with Viola Davis, utterly gorgeous and much younger looking in person, she was ending a »

Bobby Cannavale joins 'Nurse Jackie' for Season 4

11 August 2011 3:08 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

The previously-renewed "Nurse Jackie" will infuse its upcoming fourth season with some new blood.

Showtime announced that Bobby Cannavale will appear as a special guest star in all 10 episodes of the often dark comedy.

A film actor and Broadway vet, Cannavale is perhaps best known to television audiences for his Emmy-winning portrayal of  Will's (Eric McCormack) boyfriend Vince on "Will & Grace." He also appeared on "Ally McBeal," "Third Watch," "Six Feet Under" and the short-lived 1999 reboot of "Cupid."

Cannavale's yet-to-be-named character will be something of a foil to the rest of the "Nurse Jackie" cast. He'll play a new administer sent by the conglomerate that buys the floundering All Saint's Hospital to make it more profitable.

That's all the network has to say on the casting at the moment, but given the character's new leadership role within All Saints, we expect that butting heads with Dr. Akalitus (Anna Deavere Smith) is inevitable. »

Nurse Jackie Season 3 Episode 5 Preview Clips: Rat Falls – Get Ready for a Coop Shocker

24 April 2011 1:37 PM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

Nurse Jackie (Edie Falco) antics continue in Episode 3.5, “Rat Falls.” If you’ve been keeping up with NJ this season, I think you’ll agree that this is one of the best season’s yet. Several secondary characters are taking on larger roles and it’s only helping the show to become funnier. While Zoey (Merritt Wever) dominated co-star laughs in prior seasons, Gloria Akalitus (Anna Deavere Smith) remains our favorite character of Season 3.

Story:

Jackie panics when her stash of pills from Bill the epileptic drug dealer runs low; Coop decides to fight O’Hara for the ER chief position but learns his mothers are divorcing; Jackie confronts Eddie about his “texting” relationship with Kevin’s sister.

In this clip, Jackie confronts Eddie about his budding relationship with her sister-in-law.

This clip shows off a shocker regarding Coop that will have a ripple effect throughout the remainder of Nurse Jackie »

Nurse Jackie Episode 3.4 Review: Jackie Sinks Deeper, While Akalitus Rocks

18 April 2011 9:37 PM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

You know you’ve hit rock bottom when you start hiding drugs in the laundry or raiding a group of nuns for your lost stash. Nurse Jackie sunk to a different kind of low in “Mitten.” Once again, she’s hidden drugs in a place where it could have been easily accessible to her children. This time the drugs were mixed up in a good will box with her daughter’s baptismal clothes. You can’t really call it an “all-new” low. After all, Jackie Peyton’s (Edie Falco) slapped food out of her child’s hand because it had drugs in it; she’s also kept a secret romance at work and a secret husband at home.

It’s good to see Jackie and O’Hara (Eve Best) playing nice again. The fiery-eyed beef between the two was great to see for a few episodes, but the humor wins »

'Nurse Jackie' Season 3: Dire consequences sidelined once again

28 March 2011 4:47 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Watching "Nurse Jackie" is frequently an uncomfortable experience.

Jackie's (Edie Falco) commitment to addiction and maintaining her manipulation of everyone in her life ensures that even the series' funniest moments are infected by metastasizing dread.

The start of Season 3 should release some of the pressure that's been building. But instead of surrendering to the Season 2 finale intervention staged by Kevin (Dominic Fumusa) and Dr. O'Hara (Eve Best), Jackie comes out fighting, postponing the inevitable once again.

That's not to see the walls aren't still crashing down around her. Every lose end continues to unravel in the Mar. 28 season premiere, with Kevin growing increasingly suspicious of her drug consumption, her professional and personal lives bleeding together, a best friend no longer speaking to her, her former lover still very much a part of her life and that dealer she nicked pills from taking an unexpected role in her life.

TV Review: Edie Falco Returns to Emmy-Winning Role of ‘Nurse Jackie’

28 March 2011 8:59 AM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Showtime has a patented formula of hiring great stars (William H. Macy, Michael C. Hall, Toni Collette, Mary-Louise Parker) and building series around them. It has worked well enough that the last two Emmy winners for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series have been won by the network — Collette for the first season of “United States of Tara” and Edie Falco for the second season of “Nurse Jackie,” both of which return tonight, March 28th, 2011.

Television Rating: 4.5/5.0

Like a nurse managing multiple patients with a variety of illnesses, Jackie Peyton (Falco) has spent many of her recent days trying to keep a house of cards from collapsing. It sure looked like that’s what happened at the end of season two after her husband Kevin (Dominic Fumusa) and her friend Eleanor (Eve Best) confronting Jackie about her disturbing pharmaceutical bills, ones that made clear that Jackie has a drug problem. »

9 February 2011 3:38 AM, PST | Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news »

On Monday, March 28th at 10Pm Et/Pt, Peter Facinelli's hit television series Nurse Jackie will return to Showtime for its third season running, and last night the first trailer for the forthcoming season was unveiled.

As a reminder, Season Two left "Nurse Jackie" (Edie Falco) caught with her pants down, so to speak …Meritt Wever ("Zoey"), Stephen Wallem ("Thor"), and Anna Deavere Smith ("Gloria Akalitus") are around to provide much-needed comic relief … a few new faces along for the ride. The first is that of Judith Light. Due to film schedule conflicts, Blythe Danner, who'd portrayed one of Coop's mothers in an earlier season, had to step down from the role (and Light came aboard). Swoosie Kurtz, who portrayed the other mom, is still returning. The second is Jaimie Alexander, who co-stars with Peter Facinelli in his movie Loosies. Per reports, Alexander has come on as Kevin Peyton (Dominic Fumusa)'s sister, »
