‘The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden’ Movie Adaptation in the Works

Jonas Jonasson’s “The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden” is being developed as a movie by Icelandic producer Joni Sighvatsson through his Palomar Pictures banner.

The Swedish novel, published in 2012, is Jonasson’s second book after “The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared.” Sighvatsson was an executive producer on the film version of “The 100-Year-Old Man,” a comedy which grossed over $50 million worldwide with strong performances in Germany and Sweden.

Sighvattson, a producer on “Z for Zachariah,” told Variety he’s already partnered with German conglomerate Telemunchen on the “The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden.” Telemunchen was also the German partner on “The 100-Year-Old Man.”

Watch: Margot Robbie, Chris Pine in ‘Z for Zachariah’ First Trailer

Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have released the first “Z for Zachariah” trailer, two months before the Aug. 21 release of the post-apocalyptic thriller.

“After the end of the world, one place was spared,” the tension-packed trailer begins.

Robbie stars as the only resident of a fertile valley that survived a nuclear war. She meets two more survivors, first bonding with Chiwetel Ejiofor’s scientist, who’s suffering from radiation exposure. That friendship unravels when Chris Pine’s character emerges from the surrounding forest.

Z for Zachariah” debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Craig Zobel directed from Nisar Modi’s script, based on Pete O’Brien’s novel, published posthumously in 1974.

Producers are Sigurjon Sighvatsson, Thor Sigurjonsson, Skuli Malmquist, Tobey Maguire, Matthew Plouffe and Sophia Lin.

Margot Robbie’s ‘Z For Zachariah’ to Be Released by Lionsgate, Roadside Attractions (Exclusive)

Two weeks before the start of the Sundance Film Festival, one of its highest-profile titles has secured distribution, as Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions will partner on the release of Craig Zobel’s “Z For Zachariah,” which stars Margot Robbie, Chris Pine and Chiwetel Ejiofor, TheWrap has learned.

Grindstone Entertainment will present the sci-fi thriller, which was executive produced by the company’s Barry Brooker and Stan Wertlieb.

While its involvement had never been reported, Lionsgate has actually had the project for some time, though the company only recently decided on its release plans.
