According to reports, author William Golding's classic novel "Lord of the Flies", will be adapted to the big screen for the third time, with the main characters, previously played by young boys, now to be played by young girls:
"Lord of the Flies", published in 1954, was adapted into a 1963 feature, directed by Peter Brook, followed by "Lord of the Flies" (1990).
"It is a timeless story that is especially relevant today," said co-directors Scott McGehee and David Siegel about their upcoming take on "Lord of the Flies", "with the interpersonal conflicts and bullying and the idea of children forming a society and replicating the behavior they saw in grownups before they were marooned...
"Taking the opportunity to tell it in a way it hasn't been told before, with girls rather than boys, is that it shifts things in a way that might help people see the story anew. It breaks...

2017-09-01T06:25:32-07:00Will New CW Series Finally Claim Horror Genre for Women?
There's never been a shortage of women in horror movies. The problem is that female characters are almost always victims in horror movies and TV shows, and even if a female character triumphs in the end, it's typically after she's been terrorized and brutalized by a man. A new series in development at the CW and being produced by Drew Barrymore could help change all that. The series will be created by women, and it offers the promise of a whole new perspective on gender in horror.
Via Bustle.
Women have been pushing to upend the gender bias still looming over Hollywood for what feels like forever, and in recent years, that battle cry has loudened. Now, the CW is amping up the fight. According to Deadline, the network is developing Black Rose Anthology,...

Despite having few details known about the project, immediate criticism met the news that Warner Bros. is developing an all-female adaptation of Lord of the Flies, William Golding's 1954 novel.
The concern lay in the fact that the project would be written and directed by two men, Scott McGehee and David Siegel, who have said the movie would be a faithful adaptation of the novel, about a group of boys stranded on an island after a plane crash.
Lord of the Flies is a book about toxic masculinity and what happens when that is left unchecked, even at a young age. It could prove...

In news that seems slightly less likely to provoke the “but what about the boys?!” brigade than the average all-female reboot, Deadline reports that an all-girls film version of Lord Of The Flies is in the works. Exclusive: Scott McGehee & David Siegel have made a deal at Warner Bros to write and direct a new version of Lord Of The Flies, based on the iconic William Golding novel. They plan to be faithful to the novel with one major twist: the young students stranded on a remote island who descend into a savage social order will be girls. It is an intriguing take on a novel that was most famously turned into a 1963 film by Peter Brook. It was later turned into a 1990 Castle Rock…...

From director Todd Phillips (“The Hangover” trilogy) comes War Dogs, starring Oscar nominee Jonah Hill (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Moneyball”) and Miles Teller (“Whiplash,” the “Divergent” trilogy).
Based on a true story, War Dogs follows two friends in their early 20s (Hill and Teller) living in Miami Beach during the Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts. Starting small, they begin raking in big money and are living the high life. But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a 300 million dollar deal to arm the Afghan Military—a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government.

Here's the first trailer for War Dogs, formerly known as Arms and the Dudes. The film is based on the shocking-but-true story chronicled in a 2011 Rolling Stone article of two twenty-something Miami Beach stoners who worked the system and earned a $300 million weapons contract from the U.S. government to supply guns to our allies in Afghanistan during the war, and it stars Jonah Hill and Miles Teller as the two bro-tastic war profiteers.
The Hangover and Old School director Todd Phillips directed this one, but even if his name wasn't plastered all over this trailer, you probably would have been able to guess he was the one responsible for it. Teller is hated by just about every internet commenter I've ever seen, and he's playing another smarmy douchebag here. As much as I think this will be a little too genuinely bro-heavy for my tastes, I also read that...

Victoria Siegel's Cause of Death Revealed, Queen of Versailles Star Died From an Accidental Overdose
Victoria Siegel, daughter of billionaire David Siegel, died from a "methadone and sertraline toxicity," according to the autopsy obtained by E! News. The coroner has ruled Victoria's death, which took place in June, an accident. At the time, her parents believed that their daughter didn't commit suicide, but said they thought she was self-medicating to help deal with a cyber attack. "I don't think (she) had any intentions of killing herself. I think she just wanted to soothe the pain she was going through," said Jackie Siegel, Victoria's mother. "This should've been a happy time of celebration where I would have been walking her down the aisle and she would have...

Although it has been confirmed that Victoria Siegel, daughter of billionaire David Siegel, struggled with an addiction to prescription drugs prior to her death, her mother says that she was also a victim of cyber bullying, which might have contributed to her passing. In an interview with Wftv at Victoria's memorial Tuesday, Jackie Siegel told reporter Jorge Estevez that she thinks her daughter was self-medicating to help deal with a cyber attack. "I don't think (she) had any intentions of killing herself. I think she just wanted to soothe the pain she was going through," said Jackie. In a solid year full of great movies, many directors are bound to be snubbed for award nominations by the Directors Guild of America. And so for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for 2013 award noms, many were left in the dust such as Joel & Ethan Coen ("Inside Llewyn Davis"), Alexander Payne ("Nebraska"), and Spike Jonze ("Her").
The Guild revealed the nominations today for the DGA Awards (full nomination list below) and it's interesting to point out that Alfonso Cuaron, Steve McQueen, and Paul Greengrass are all first time nominees.
But will these nominations shape up the Oscar race? And will the Academy favor the Coen Brothers, or Payne, or Jonze instead of some of the DGA nominees?
We'll find out the winner of the 66th Annual DGA Awards on Saturday, January 25.
Here's the full list of nominations:

The Directors Guild of America has just announced their nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for 2013. The nominees are hardly a surprise (these are actually the five I predicted) and include some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Martin Scorsese (The Wolf of Wall Street) and David O. Russell (American Hustle).
Other highly predictable nominees include Alfonso Cuaron for his brilliant work on Gravity (the best film of the year) and Steve McQueen for 12 Years a Slave. It’s interesting to note that this is where most of the competition has centered throughout awards season, with these two taking a vast majority of the awards. However, while favor started out in McQueen’s corner, the awards over the past month have shown that Cuaron is the clear favorite, making this award his to lose.

As each year draws to a close we let our wonderful team of writers loose on the movie landscape to throw plaudits at the great and good and fettered eggnog at those responsible for the bad and cinematically reprehensible.
Here’s our take on the highs and lows of Movietown in 2012.

It’s always the subtle work which yields the best results. Buoyed by a stunning turn by Marion Cotillard, the CG artists here do a remarkable and flawless job of presenting to the audience what looks like a genuine amputee. The results are shocking, wholly believable and never once distract from the drama.

"The Wolfpack is Back" proclaims the new poster for the sequel "The Hangover Part II" from director Todd Phillips.
I enjoyed the first "Hangover" so I'm looking forward to the sequel. And the poster offers more mysteries such as what's the deal with the well-dressed monkey? Or what's the deal with Zach Galifianakis' nearly-shaved head? What's on Ed Helms' face? What's the matter with Bradley Cooper? And where the heck is Justin Bartha?
We'll have all those questions answered on May 26th when the sequel opens nationwide. All I can say is, I hope this is better than the first.
Here's more info on "The Hangover Part II" from Warner Bros.:
Phil, Stu, Alan and Doug travel to exotic Thailand for Stu's wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don't always go as planned.

Warner Brothers just released the first trailer for the coming age romance set in the 50s called Flipped. The movie is based off the novel of the same name by Wendelin Van Draanen. The film stars Madeline Carroll, Callan McAuliffe, Rebecca De Mornay, Anthony Edwards, John Mahoney, Penelope Ann Miller, Aidan Quinn and Kevin Weisman.
The studio plans to have a limited release of the movie on Aug. 6th (Los Angeles, Sacramento, Austin) and has it scheduled to open nation wide on August 27th. After watching the trailer I am not sure I am the main demo for this movie but I found it sort of charming and fun. I like the period setting and Rob Reiner’s ability to grab your heart in a movie. The young actors look like they know they can handle a lot too which is great.
