Billy Joel Sings 'Uptown Girl' to Christie Brinkley at Madison Square Garden (Video)

10 August 2014 11:05 AM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley may have divorced, but he's still her Piano Man. The 60-year-old beauty had front-row seats at Joel's Madison Square Garden concert Thursday night, and Joel directed his camera crew to film her dancing for "Uptown Girl" (the 1983 video for which Brinkley famously starred in). You can see Joel beckon his camera crew over mid-song on the YouTube video above, and the uploader eventually pans up to the screens above the stage showing Brinkley at the song's end. Brinkley posted several shots from the concert on her Instagram: One selfie was captioned "he's still got it »

Billy Joel, Once A Stranger To Advertising, Is Becoming A Commercial Big Shot

6 August 2014 7:18 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Billy Joel has moved from “Allentown” to Madison Avenue.

The piano-playing hitmaker was once regarded by advertisers as one of music’s “untouchables” – artists like Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Tom Petty and R.E.M. who shun the idea of aligning one of their popular tunes with an ad for a new kind of soup, sneaker or SUV. Now the artist sometimes known as “The Piano Man” has allowed his songs to be used in ads for The Gap (“Just The Way You Are,” sung by his daughter, Alexa); Merrill Lynch’s Bank of America (“My Life”); and New York State tourism (“New York State of Mind”).

“An artist with the status of Billy Joel is iconic, and can help elevate a brand,” said Paul Greco, director of music at Jwt, the large ad agency owned by Wpp Group of Britain.

Billy Joel's Mother, Rosalind Joel, Dies at 92; Ex-Wife Christie Brinkley Pens Touching Tribute

15 July 2014 4:14 PM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Christie Brinkley obviously has fond, loving memories of at least certain aspects of her marriage to Billy Joel. Rosalind Nymand Joel, the Piano Man's mother, died Sunday at 92 on New York's Long Island. Having raised her children largely alone after divorcing Joel's father in the 1950s, she was the inspiration for the song "Rosalinda's Eyes," off of his 1978 album 52nd Street. Brinkely, whose marriage to Joel ended 20 years ago, wrote a touching tribute to her former mother-in-law today in response to her passing. "At sad times we look for ways to find the good to lift our spirits, So I have only to imagine what Rosalinda's Eyes have seen to find cause to celebrate a »

A Tale of Two Billy Joel Reviews and a Happy Ending

28 May 2014 11:31 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Five years ago, about six weeks after HitFix launched, I reviewed a Billy Joel concert at the opening of a new venue at Agua Caliente Casino in Palm Springs. Growing up, I was a massive Joel fan. His had been one of my first concerts and his music served as a soundtrack for much of my youth, as it did for millions of people. But the show I saw that day in February 2009 was a poor facsimile to the many great Joel concerts I’d seen over the years. I said as much, as well as commented that his ability to sustain notes that night was shot and he seemed to be going through the motions. Then a funny thing happened. I figured since HitFix was still a little baby (editorially, it was just me, Gregory Ellwood, Dan Fienberg and Drew McWeeny), very few people would see the review. That was pretty naive (okay, »

Macklemore Battles Anti-Semitism Rumors After Dressing in 'Jewish' Stereotype Costume

19 May 2014 3:30 PM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Here's a lesson for all the rappers out there: If you're thinking of performing with a fake nose, make sure your prosthetic of choice is closer to Digital Underground than Macklemore. The Seattle artist became the center of a social-media controversy on Monday when images and video began to circulate that showed him performing "Thrift Shop" in a prosthetic nose and fake beard. Critics say the costume, which also included a black mop-top wig, made the rapper resemble an anti-Semitic caricature. Macklemore donned the outfit during a surprise concert at Seattle's Emp Museum on Friday. After a weekend of complaints, »
