Pierce Brosnan is set to replace Sam Neill in the lead role in AMC's upcoming drama series "The Son," marking only his second major TV series role - the first being the one that shot him to fame over thirty years ago - NBC's "Remington Steele".

Based on the book by Philipp Meyer and written by Meyer, Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, the multi-generational epic follows America's birth as a superpower through the bloody rise and fall of one Texas family.

Brosnan will play Eli, a a relic of the Wild West and the charismatic patriarch of the McCullough family. As a child, he was kidnapped and raised among the Comanche Native American tribe and applies the brutal Comanche worldview to his business dealings.

Neill was originally cast in the role but left for personal reasons. The series has a ten-episode straight-to-series order with Tom Harper ("War & Peace") directing the opening episode. »

Wgn America has ordered a thirteen-episode second season of its Appalachian family drama "Outsiders".

Premiering late January and growing with each episode, to date the show is averaging 2.8 million viewers in Live+7 ratings.

David Morse stars in the series as the patriarch of an off-the-grid family in Kentucky battling outside forces in a stoic bid to maintain their unconventional lifestyle. Sam Neill to Star in AMC Drama ‘The Son’

Sam Neill has been set to star in the AMC drama “The Son,” playing the patriarch of a Texas family in a multigenerational story of the clan’s rise and fall.

Production on the AMC Studios/Sonar Entertainment series, which has a 10-episode order, is scheduled to begin in June in Austin. Also cast in the series is Sydney Lucas, the Tony-nominated pre-teen from Broadway’s “Fun Home,” Henry Garrett, Zahn McClarnon and Paolo Nunez.

“Son” is based on the novel by Philipp Meyer that chronicles America’s rise as a superpower through the prism of the McCullough family. Neill’s Eli McCullough is born on the day that Texas declared itself an independent Republic from Mexico, earning him the nickname of “First Son of Texas.” The series is expected to bow on AMC next year.

AMC Gives Series Order to Texas Oil Drama ‘The Son’

AMC has given a straight-to-series order for oil drama “The Son,” it was announced Friday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, Calif.

Charting the rise and fall of a Texas oil empire, the Sonar Entertainment series is described as a multi-generational drama about the country’s growth into a superpower. It is an adaptation of Philipp Meyer’s book that is penned by Meyer, Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. Kevin Murphy is showrunner and exec producer with Meyer, Shipman, McGreevy and Sonar’s Jenna Glazier. AMC has ordered 10 episodes.

Deadline's Nellie Andreeva reports AMC has ordered The Son TV show straight to series. AMC will present at the Television Critics' Association winter press tour, today. This Texas drama is based on Philipp Meyer's award winning novel of the same name.

The Son was a 2014 Pulitzer finalist, although the prize went to The Goldfinch, by Donna Tartt. Per Deadline, Meyer will write and produce with Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. Deadline also names Kevin Murphy as showrunner and Michael Connolly as producer.
