Sherri Shepherd: 'SNL needs more African-American castmembers'

21 December 2011 9:05 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

The View's Sherri Shepherd has suggested that Saturday Night Live needs more African-American castmembers. Shepherd made the criticism during an interview with Saturday Night Live's Fred Armisen, where she complained about frequently being left of the comedy show's spoofs of The View. "Where's the people who can play me on the sketches?" she questioned Armisen, adding: "You gotta get some more black people on your show." Armisen appeared to agree with Shepherd's call for more African-American castmembers by saying: "We're working on it." (more) »

Sherri Shepherd To SNL’s Fred Armisen: ‘You’ve Got To Get More Black People On That Show’

20 December 2011 10:46 AM, PST | Mediaite - TV | See recent Mediaite - TV news »

We don't usually get two View posts in a day here at Mediaite but, while that fart thing was just Breaking News That The World Needed To See, there was also another interesting moment on the show. Saturday Night Live's Fred Armisen appeared to promote the second season of his IFC series Portlandia ( a series where that hilarious one-man show sketch probably would have been better appreciated) and Sherri Shepherd pointed out an issue that's been a problem almost since SNL's inception (and possibly the actual solution to Greg Gutfeld's conspiracy yesterday); Lorne Michaels needs to hire some more damn black people. »

Sherri Shepherd Gives Terrible Cooking Tip: ‘I Put Cold Butter Underneath My Boobs And It Melts It’

It's tough to say how this escaped the public eye for so long, but The View's Sherri Shepherd was a guest on The Nate Berkus Show earlier this month, and took part in a cooking segment with the Food Network's Aaron McCargo Jr. She started drinking some of the recipe's rum, and eventually let loose a helpful holiday cooking hint when Berkus was complaining about his butter being cold »

Whoopi Goldberg talks blackface on 'The View'; leaves out that whole Ted Danson thing

16 November 2011 11:51 AM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Is Whoopi Goldberg consistent when it comes her view on the practice of dressing in blackface?

On Wednesday's (Nov. 16) edition of "The View," Goldberg decided to broach the "hot topic" of the University of Southern Mississippi sorority sisters who were recently chastised for dressing up in blackface for a costume party. And she defended them, scoffing at the university's decision to subject the girls to "cultural competency training."

"The fact that they dug the Huxtables enough to want to dress like them says that they have cultural awareness," said Goldberg. "There's a difference between what the Huxtables look like and what actual buffoonery looks like."

But, wait a minute. Isn't buffoonery -- or dressing in blackface in order to denigrate African-Americans a la a minstrel show -- exactly what Whoopi's then boyfriend, Ted Danson, did in 1993 at a Friars Club Roast for her? Because at the time she defended him, »

Oprah firewalker picture: Hours of endless meme-joyment

8 November 2011 10:19 AM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

So last week, Oprah Winfrey tweeted a photo of herself walking over a bed of hot coals as motivational speaker Tony Robbins cheered her on from the sidelines. The picture itself was awesome, but because the Internet exists to make awesome things even more awesome, the photo has inspired a new meme: "Oprah running away from things."

Buzzfeed deserves the credit for making it possible by providing a handy photo editing tool that allows even us average shmos to quickly create our own variations on the theme. We've posted ours -- Oprah running away from "The View's" Sherri Shepherd dressed as a zombie Flavor Flav -- above.

Below, a few of our favorites from Buzzfeed's commenters...

Halloween on 'The View,' 'Ellen,' 'Gma,' 'Regis and Kelly,' 'Today' and 'The Talk'

31 October 2011 1:25 PM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Ah, Halloween. A time to revel in childish pursuits -- like gorging on candy and playing pretend. It's also, of course, the time of year when daytime TV talkers go all out and get dudded up in what has become an escalating war of over-the-top costume proliferation.

On "Today" (above), anchors Matt Lauer and Ann Curry recreated the royal wedding with themselves as Kate and Wills. Al Roker and Maria Shriver subbed for Harry and Pippa while surprise guest Meredith Vieira made a grand entrance as Queen Elizabeth.

Meanwhile, "The View" hopped on the zombie bandwagon. Each host dressed as a zombie version of a different reality show personality/premise. We have to admit, most of them were lame. We're with Joy Behar, who thought the idea was kind of goofy. We don't blame her since she had to dress as a Zombie Hoarder. Whoopi Goldberg's Zombie Steven Tyler »

‘The View’ Attacks Edward Cullen: He’s ‘Wussy!’ Do You Agree?

Sherri Shepherd had some fighting words for Robert Pattinson's character on the Oct. 31 episode of 'The View.' The ladies of The View went all-out for Halloween this year, but instead of dressing up as ever-popular vampires, they decided to go as zombies -- because they don't think today's vampires are scary enough! Sherri Shepherd even took particular aim at Robert Pattinson's vampire persona, Edward Cullen. "That vampire in Twilight is kind of wussy," Sherri claimed. "He just glows in the dark." Pearls of wisdom from Whoopi Goldberg and the other ladies of 'The View'

We can always count on the ladies of "The View" to dispel interesting morning chatter, whether it's insight into world events or just gross Tmi about their bathroom habits. This morning, we were able to enjoy (I use that word loosely) both. Read and be enlightened. Or something.  Barbara Walters was Mia, leaving just Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elizabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd to hold down the fort. Thankfully, they were up to the job. Or at least they talked a lot. On the recent BlackBerry meltdown, Joy Behar was able to find a conspiracy angle. "Isn't it a coincidence that Steve »

'The View': Hank Williams Jr. warns against kicking cow patties

11 October 2011 11:59 AM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

On Tuesday's (Oct. 11) "The View," Hank Williams Jr. made his first public appearance since likening President Obama to a Nazi on "Fox & Friends" last week. The country singer claims he broke off ties with Espn and Disney and not vice versa.

"When I came in my house and my daughter said, 'Daddy, are you in trouble?' I said if I am, then we all are,'" Williams said. "On Tuesday, I said you can tell Espn and Disney adios."

Williams -- dressed in a New York Yankees jersey, Airborne baseball cap and fancy-shmancy sunglasses -- brought along a dictionary and had "View" co-host Sherri Shepherd read the definition of an analogy as some kind of proof that he did not in fact called the President a Nazi, but merely suggested he shared some Nazi-like qualities.

Despite already having issued an apology, Williams says the game of golf President Obama »

Sherri Shepherd rips Barbara Walters for N-word use

4 October 2011 10:20 AM, PDT | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

The crew at "The View" are at it again.

On Monday (Oct.3) co-host Sherri Shepherd ripped into Barbara Walters for using the N-word within the context of a news story about presidential candidate Rick Perry's hunting ground in Texas.

During their roundtable discussion, the ladies brought up a story that emerged over the weekend about a hunting camp Perry used to rent. As the Washington Post reported, at the facility's entrance there was a large rock that simply read "N*****head."

When Walters used the full term rather than saying the N-word, she was clearly uncomfortable. "It's very hard for me to say...The fact that I just said it now gives me chills," she says.

But Shepherd shot back at Walters.

"I didn't like the way you said it," Shepherd says. "I don't know if it's a semantics thing, but it's something that goes through my body."
