EXPERIENCE

Dan Shefelman Studio – Irvington, NY 1/1999 – present. Creative Director. Write and animate original web cartoon series -- the most recent of which is RED and BLUE (http://CNN.com/redandblue). Freelance story board and development for animated features -- currently working as an artist and creative consultant on The Legend of Santa Claus with Lumenas Studios (http://www.lumenasstudios.com). Developing several web cartoons and animated TV series. Previously, produced and directed an award winning commercial for Nick-at-Nite which won the ASIFA Award for Humor, the Promax Award for on-air promos and was nominated for ASIFA-Hollywood’s Annie Award. Co-wrote and directed an online interactive film for Samsung entitled Anyfilms which ran on their website from 2005 until early 2007. Anyfilms consisted of forty scenes filmed in a nightclub which allowed the user to create his or her own stories with 11,000 possible combinations from the points of view of ten different characters. Directed a stop-motion animated theatrical PSA for the New York State Division of Human Rights campaign to fight discrimination.

Blue Sky Studios / Fox Animation – White Plains, NY 11/1999 – 6/2007. Writer and Lead Story Artist.
Developed the story and characters of Blue Sky Studio’s ICE AGE, the animated hit which won the hearts of audiences around the globe grossing $382 million worldwide box office and was nominated for an OSCAR in 2002. Co-wrote the animated short film GONE NUTTY which was nominated for an OSCAR in 2004. Senior member of the story team that developed the story and characters for Robots, which has grossed $260 million worldwide. Developed story for Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. Developed story for The Legend of the Leafmen – currently in development.

MTV Animation – New York, NY 3/1995 – 10/1999. Design Director and Story Artist.
Starting with MTV’s first feature, JOE'S APARTMENT, as a story artist – worked closely with the director, John Payson, to create some of the most innovative combinations of live action and computer animation at the time. The animation by Blue Sky Studios won numerous industry awards and propelled Blue Sky to their current success. Design director of THE HEAD, a surreal short form series which was part of MTV's ODDITIES. First story artist brought in by the BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD creator, Mike Judge, to develop the look of MTV's first animated feature: BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD DO AMERICA. The movie earned a record breaking $20 million opening weekend and went on to gross $63 million at the box office. Instrumental as a story artist working with The Head creator Eric Fogel to plan the stop-motion action sequences for MTV’s smash hit CELEBRITY DEATHMATCH.

Freelance Art Director – New York, NY 1/1993 – 3/1995. Created TV advertising campaigns for clients including Windex, Volkswagen, Tyco Toys, Ore Ida, Purina, New York Life, Starter, Black and Decker, Time-Warner, New Amsterdam Beer, NBA and NFL. Working with ad agencies including Chiat/Day, Berlin Cameron, Margeotes Fertitta + Partners, Bozell and Nick&Paul.

VH1 – New York, NY 3/1992 – 1/1993 Caricaturist.
Created over 600 caricatures of celebrities for VH1’s innovative game show RUMOR HAS IT. The caricatures were featured in 26 episodes both as graphics and props for the show in which contestants were challenged to match the correct gossip / rumor with the celebrity caricature.

Jumbo Pictures / Nickelodeon – New York, NY 3/1990 – 3/1992 Design Director.
Responsible for creating the look of Nickelodeon's hugely popular animated series, DOUG. Supervised a team of 12 artists designing sets, props and characters for 50 episodes. Doug was nominated twice for an Emmy and won the Cable Ace Award.

New York Newsday – New York, NY 5/1986 – 3/1992. Political Cartoonist.
Wrote and illustrated cartoons satirizing New York's society and politics. Appearing on the editorial page, the cartoons had a daily circulation of 750,000. Created a business comic strip, Funny Money, which was syndicated in 50 newspapers nationally by King Features.

Austin American-Statesman – Austin, TX 6/1984 – 5/1986. Political Cartoonist.
Landed the sought after position of political cartoonist for Austin’s premiere daily newspaper. Syndicated worldwide by Copley News Service.
