Sharkey is the subject of a book/biography called 'I Fought Them All' by Greg Lewis and Moira Sharkey. The book tells the story of Sharkey's life and also of his 50-year rivalry and friendship with Jim Jeffries.
Their 25-round world title fight at Coney Island in 1899 was one of the most compelling encounters ever seen inside a ring and it sparked a friendship which would last until the two men died a few weeks apart in 1953.
According to the book: On Jeffries' death Sharkey - then in hospital and gravely ill himself - was heard to say, "Well, I finally beat him.".
