How Kimbo Slice, the First 'Viral' Mma Star, Changed the Sport Forever

7 June 2016 3:35 PM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Professional fighter Kimbo Slice has died at 42. "Professional," however, was an adjective that really only described the latter half of Slice's life, the part that would rock the sport of mixed martial arts. The Bahamian Slice, né Kevin Ferguson, briefly attended the University of Miami (where he studied criminal justice) and had a tryout for the Miami Dolphins in 1997. For a stretch in 1994, he lived out of his truck. Throughout the 1990s, he worked variously as a bodyguard and limo driver for Rk Netmedia, a pornography company better known as Reality Kings. By 2003, he began participating in unsanctioned street fights in and around Miami. »

20 Worst Wrestlers In Tna History

23 March 2016 12:34 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Impactwrestling.com

I was, as I’m sure many of you reading this were, once a big fan of Tna wrestling. I was first introduced to Tna during the ‘Asylum’ years, when Tna taped weekly pay-per-views at the Nashville fairgrounds. Although some of it was pure trash, I was drawn to the cutting-edge X Division action and a few familiar faces from the past, such as Jeff Jarrett and Ken Shamrock.

I then watched as Tna organically grew, moving on to getting a TV deal and taping at Universal Studios. In 2005/06, I genuinely believed that Tna had the potential to become very successful and actually (at one point) felt as though Tna had a far more exciting roster of talent.

Guys like Samoa Joe, Aj Styles, Christopher Daniels, Abyss, Lax, Monty Brown and then Christian, Rhyno and Kurt Angle and co. really made you want to watch the product from week to week. »

10 Ufc Fighters Influenced By WWE

© Igor Vidyashev/Zuma Press/Corbis

The influence mixed martial arts has had on pro wrestling, in terms of shaping in ring styles and leading pro wrestlers to jump ship to Mma, is far from a one way street. As much as the sport, still realistically in its infancy, has influenced promotions like the WWE, so too has the WWE influenced the rank and file of the Mma world, and particularly, the Ufc.

There’s no doubt about it: many Ufc stars grew up pro wrestling fans, because frankly, mixed martial arts as we know it today didn’t even exist until the early 90s, and even then, it was an underground sport. While that budding sport slowly grew into the multi-billion dollar business it is today, WCW and the WWE were there, serving as entertainment for young, up and coming gym rats.

You can easily spot those influenced by the likes of Hogan, »

Big Boss Man Officially Confirmed For WWE Hall Of Fame 2016

7 March 2016 12:17 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

Earlier today, WWE’s official Twitter account announced the newest inductee into the 2016 Hall of Fame class – Ray “Big Boss Man” Traylor.

One of the most beloved superstars of the late 1980s and early 1990s, Traylor first joined the company in 1988. A real-life ex-prison guard, Traylor was given the character of “The Big Boss Man” – a corrupt prison guard/law enforcement agent. He was a top heel for WWE until 1990, when he turned face and had well-remembered feuds with Mr. Perfect, The Mountie, and Nailz. He left the company in 1993, and after a brief tenure in All Japan Pro Wrestling, debuted in 1993. First called “The Boss,” Traylor subsequently took the names “The Guardian Angel” and “Big Bubba Rogers” following complaints from WWE.

In 1998, Traylor rejoined WWE, once again taking the “Big Boss Man” name. He changed his image, wearing a Swat-style uniform and serving as a personal bodyguard to Vince McMahon. »

Ken Shamrock Cries Foul Over Latest Mma Loss

20 February 2016 11:20 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

© Kc Alfred/Zuma Press/Corbis

Ken Shamrock has had a seen it all, done it all sort of career. He has been a Ufc champion, and appeared in the first ever Ufc event. He has been a Pancrase champion, wrestled in Japan, and went on to become an intercontinental champion in the WWE. As a pro wrestler, he was probably underrated. As a mixed martial artist, he was a pioneer – but time waits for no man.

Friday night at Bellator 149, Shamrock met longtime rival Royce Gracie, the man who beat him way back at Ufc 1, for the third time in their respective careers. The fifty-two year old Shamrock hadn’t won since 2010, and had recently lost to Kimbo Slice in Bellator. Gracie, however, hadn’t fought in over nine years, and at forty-nine years old himself and a decade removed from the action, it looked like Shamrock might finally get »

Kurt Angle To Wrestle Rey Mysterio In Phoenix

12 February 2016 1:18 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

Kurt Angle has left Tna after nearly ten years with the promotion, and now the next step in his career has been announced. Angle will take on former adversary Rey Mysterio at Ur Fight’s March 20th event.

Ur Fight is a fledgling hybrid promotion mixing various forms of combat sports. Angle versus Mysterio (hyped as “one final match” between the two) is one quarter of a quadruple main event on the March show, to be held at Phoenix, Arizona’s Celebrity Theater. The other advertised matches include an Mma bout between legendary rivals Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock, a grappling match pitting Chael Sonnen against Michael Bisping, and boxing icon Roy Jones, Jr. taking on a fan with $100,000 on the line.

Angle and Mysterio clashed many times in WWE, with the multi-time Cruiserweight Champion taking on the Olympic Gold Medalist in Mysterio’s Pay-Per-View debut with the company. »

Kurt Angle Discusses Possibly Fighting Mma Legend

29 January 2016 7:34 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

ImpactWrestling.com

Months back, during Bellator 145: Vengeance, Bellator Mma unveiled its newest big name connection to the pro wrestling world: Kurt Angle. Angle joined the Bellator Mma family that night, stepping into the broadcast booth to add his insights into the Bobby Lashley vs. James Thompson fight (the most watched bout of the evening, which Lashley handily won).

He was also immediately confronted with the obvious question: would he fight in Bellator? To make a long story short, Angle said he would consider it.

Now, he’s talking possible opponents, and he’s being pretty realistic about just who he wants to face.

Speaking to The Roman Show, Angle said he was not planning on fighting anyone in their prime (so you can probably eliminate a bout with Bobby Lashley), but was absolutely open to fighting an “Mma legend” – and he absolutely named names.

Of course, I’m not »
